The Campaign Against Sex Robots raises red flag for violence and victimization, calls for standards in sexbots

"Could we live in a world where we're no longer interacting with each other? Where this machine is constructed to meet our needs, to give us what we want?"

I see sexbots as adding a new medium our social interactions, akin to social media and multiplayer video games, not jeopardizing them. I doubt many people would be so solipsistic as to exclusively desire sex with bots (just as few people are satisfied by exclusively masturbating), they'd want to show off their findings. I'm sure we'd all want to talk to each other about sexbots and incorporate them into our human sexual relations. Examples of this could include the obvious human-human-bot threesomes or groups of varying combinations but also humans who interact with bots wanting to share what they've learned through "botsex" with humans who have less experience with bots. There'd be new spectrums of sexuality and technique, and if anything it would make human sex that much more creative and interesting rather than obsoleting it.

For all but the purest of philosophers, needs and appetites do not exist to be met and filled, but to be expanded, evolved, and politicized ad infinitum to keep the fires of humanity including love and war burning. Sexbots would not put those flames out, they'd provide yet another spark and I look forward to seeing it play out. We live in strange and wonderful times.

Richardson is clearly just a technophobic idiot. She says:

"If you truly value other human beings, it would be very difficult to buy sex off of them."

1) How is robot sex ethically comparable to prostitution? Any ethical issues with prostitution would be out of concern for the prostitute, and as these robots aren't sentient and therefore can't suffer, they aren't morally relevant.

2) Prostitution isn't wrong. Consensual sex is OK. As long as the prostitute isn't being exploited because they need the money, and obviously as long as they are informed (of legal age, no learning disabilities, understands consequences, etc), and even more obviously, as long as they aren't being forced into doing it, everything is fine.

"I'm looking at what we need as human beings."

Water, food, shelter

"How we learn about being human"

You don't need to learn this. You are human simply by being born a human, and whatever you do and whatever you experience is by definition a legitimate part of being human.

"telling people that they can have their needs gratified through a machine."

Wants, not needs but either way... Yes they can be gratified by a machine. That's the entire point, duh.

"First of all, that's not possible,"

Yes it is possible. Do you like it when I make up unfounded statements? No? Then don't do it. These companies are seeing whether or not it is possible, unlike either of us.

"That, in itself, will change humanity."

AAAAH!!! Change is coming!!! Run for the hills!!!!!

EDIT: Oh and

When it comes to the physically disabled person using a sex robot, she said, "it means that [their wants] are more important than recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being."

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

recognizing the full subjectivity of another human being

error: Meaningless.

EDIT2: Oh and even worse are some of the comments ... funking misogynistic idiots

It's just drivel and there's no content to debunk... darn it.

Well, in my opinion it might be of benefit. That argument in that status from yesterday where I argued about the inequality of one night stands, this might level the playing field, sorta. Unfortunately those that resort to these robots will probably be mocked and shunned. It is best to wait until these machines are nearly identical to a human being. In terms of violence and victimization to the robots, who cares? Robots are just mechanical constructs, and mechanical constructs don't have any rights.
