I have very limited ambitions for this thread given the demographic, but whatever. Post about booze you like.

My stepsister got me some Crown Royal Black for Christmas, and I've really been enjoying it. It has a much fuller and more complex taste than standard crown. My must-keep-a-bottle-on-hand collection includes:

  • Seagram's Gin
  • Bacardi Superior Rum (excellent for mixed drinks of all sorts)
  • Cuarenta y Tres (a liqueur, also for mixed drinks - gives them a really great accent)
  • Glenfiddich 12
  • Glenmorangie 10
  • Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Incidentally, I'm out of Glenfiddich because I killed the bottle last week. :(

Rum? Like, just rum? Often times you don't drink it straight. I'd be surprised if anyone enjoyed drinking alcohol straight right when they made their foray into the world of spirits. We did shots of cheap liquor in college because we were poor and it got us drunk quickly, but there's a reason that they're called "shots" and not "sip-slowly-and-enjoy-the-sensation-of-your-throat-burnings."

I'm a big fan of red wine, I've gotten to the point where I can taste the subtle differences between bottles, but not to the point where I can name the flavors (my dad's a wine snob, so I usually end up drinking higher quality stuff). I usually like full-bodied cabernets over thinner stuff like pinot noir.

Beer's probably my favorite though. I prefer lagers for the most part, but ales are getting to grow on me. One beer I really liked was Wachusett which is blueberry-flavored, funnily enough. I know it's at least available in Boston, but I haven't found it anywhere else yet.

I'm not a big fan of liquor, but it's my go-to when I'm trying to get drunk. Hate tequila, vodka's okay, moonshine's oddly good, funk gin, cognac's decent, and results will vary with whiskey.

I'm lucky I live with 7 other dudes currently, we pool resources together. This is about 2/3 of our stash.

I'm still at this stage. I figure I'll warm up to liquor in a few years, given my pattern. I used to hate beer.

No, it was more like a Captain Morgan rum made like a root beer float with the ice cream and whipped cream and caramel. Is Captain Morgan even rum? I think it is.

Absolut Apple Vodka

Grey Goose

Captain Morgan

Fireball (I know, shameful but I like it)

and the occasional Spiced Rum are among my favorites.

Grey Goose is good sheet, Captain and Coke is a classic, and fireball is alright in moderation.

RE: Fusion, don't get in too deep with wine. It's largely a placebo effect, they've done studies on this. The $5/10 bottle is just fine, unless you're not the one paying for it.

For beers, I am a strong stout and porter advocate. At bars I usually go with an IPA because for whatever reason the darker beers are not on tap as often, but there are TWO at the place I'm headed to downtown tonight, which is exciting.

You have to drink gin in a gin and tonic with fresh lime. It does have a unique flavor profile though and it certainly isn't everybody's taste, but it's so smooth and easy to drink that it's hard not to like it. It's not as heavy-feeling as rum-based drinks are, either, and not as much sugar, of course.

Pretty good offerings. When you feel like getting into whiskey/scotch, I recommend Maker's Mark (which is actually a bourbon) and the Glenmorangie 10. I think those are a nice starting point.

That sounds like far too much sugar. I've never had Captain with root beer, either, but it's probably still too sweet compared to coke, and spiced rums are better with moderate sweetness.

I totally believe that. The wine is good, but there really isn't ever one I prefer over the other. I wouldn't blow loads of money on it either, the higher price isn't worth it.

I just can't get into gin right now, but my introduction to it was through shooting, so that figures. I'll go with your advice and give it another go with something else in the future. Smooth liquor is good stuff, I also love Grey Goose.

Oh yeah, I guess I'm starting to come around to port too. That has crazy amounts of sugar.
