Yu-Gi-Oh! Rulings Questions

Recommended Posts

Question:

If I attack into my opponent's "Sabersaurus" with my "Elemental HERO Neos Alius" and my opponent activates "Dimensional Prison", then I respond with "Enemy Controller", changing Alius to Defense Position, is the monster still banished or no because it's no longer "attacking"?

You can't use Enemy Controller on your own monster. It only targets opponent's monsters.

However, this specific example notwithstanding, if Alius is switched to DEF position due to a card effect chaining to D-Prison, it will not be banished, as it is no longer a legal target for D-Prison. (As you said, because it's no longer attacking).

Does Skull Lair target? And if I chain Book of Moon, will my monster be destroyed?

No, Skull Lair does not target. Skull Lair banishes monsters as a cost. A face-down monster has no level and therefore cannot be chosen. The player must still choose an available monster to destroy based on the number of cards he banished for the cost if there's one available.

Was just watching a game on DN. Player used his Swords of Conceiling Light, flipping everything face-down. Now, the opponent also had a Token on their field. Since Tokens can't be face-down, the Rulings to Swords says it goes to simply Defense Position instead. So, the opponent used Tragedy. Is that possible at this point?

Yes, he can activate Tragedy as your token went from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position.

The monster is not banished if it is changed to Defense Position.

If I have a face-down winged beast monster and my opp. atks into it, can I activate icarus attack the moment it's flipped face up?

Would the same work for it's reptile counter part?

You cannot activate Trap Cards during the Damage Step, unless it is a Counter Trap, it negates or changes ATK and/or DEF. Offering to the Deity (I am assume you mean that card) works the same.

It's actually not quite the same with the two. Icarus Attack can tribute the face-down Winged Beast before Damage Calculation. Offering requires a face-up card and so it cannot be used.

EDIT: Icarus Attack needs to be used before it is flipped face-up!

It wouldn't matter, neither can be used in the Damage Step regardless.

No, but you can use Icarus Attack even if the Winged Beast is facedown, because it Tributes as a cost. Offering to the Snake Deity has to target a Reptile, so the Reptile must already be faceup.

Neither can be used during Damage Calculation.

Say I have an Equip Spell Card that said: "When this card is removed from the field: You can..." when I would Xyz Summon or Synchro Summon etc. would it miss the timing? I don't know when the card is considered to be destroyed and removed from the field. Also, does it change it if I said "destroyed" or use another word?

It would miss the timing if the equipped monster was Tributed for a cost or Summon, or used as Fusion/Synchro/Xyz Material.

To make it NOT miss the timing, you either would have to make it mandatory, or change the timing to read "IF this card leaves the Field: You can..."

Say Evilswarm Ophion or Vanity's Emptiness is face-up and my Maiden with Eyes of Blue was attacked, could I still use the negate part. Also, say I had no Blue-Eyes in my Deck, or all copies were banished, could I use that same effect?

Summoning a Blue-Eyes White Dragon is an optional part of the effect, due to "You CAN Special Summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon".  Yes, you can active the effect to negate the attack and change the battle position.  Obviously when it gets to the part that gives you the option of Special Summoning a Blue-Eyes, you'd be forced to choose "No".

I control 3 copies of Burden of the Mighty and a King Tiger Wanghu. My opponent Special Summons Malefic Stardust Dragon with no Field Spell out. Is Stardust destroyed by its own effect, or by Wanghu?

Malefic Stardust will promptly destroy itself by its own effect without starting a chain. Wanghu is a Trigger Effect and normally would activate, but because Stardust is already destroyed, it wouldn't do anything. But it will be considered destroyed because of its own effect, not Wanghu.

You cannot use Mausoleum of the Emperor to both Tribute a monster and paying Life Points right? My opponent tried to Summon Obelisk (which cannot be Summoend this way anyway, since it requires 3 monsters for its Summon), and then he used some monsters as well. Could he do that?

You can't use Life Points AND monsters for a Mausoleum summon - either one or the other.

I can change a position of a monster that I special summoned right? My opponent says otherwise, but I havn't changed the position of it this turn nor have I attacked with that monster, so shouldn't I be able to?

You cannot change the battle position of a monster that was summoned that turn.
