Magus is an Oracle Think Tank deck that combines the ability to make power columns with drawing extra cards. Focusing on predicting the top card of their deck, Magus is a great choice for anyone looking for an OTT deck that doesn't involve the extremely expensive Tsukuyomi and Susano'o builds, and doesn't want to play the underwhelming CEO Amaterasu Legion. Despite it's budget nature, Magus is full of powerful cards and can easily stand against the top decks in the format.

The Magus Cards

Semilunar Magus:

Semilunar Magus is our Starting Vanguard and she provides us with a good 5k body, and two cards from her effect. Note her effect has no cost and isn't Generation Break, making turn two Briolette Magus plays possible. Additionally, one quirk of this card is that the cost is payed after revealing the card. This means you can declare any card from Semilunar and even if you fail to hit it, you keep the card and know the identity of your top deck. This is very powerful, especially considering she doesn't have to boost a Vanguard in order to activate the skill. If you manage to hit Semilunar, you almost always want to trade it in for two cards, as the tempo gained from this is huge, however, using Semilunar just to see your top deck is very legitimate in certain cases, such as having two Rhombus Magus or Cuore and Crescent in the same column.

Lozenge:

Very underrated ability. This card can be used to shuffle away a bad card from the top with a card like Globe Magus, or even just to put the heal back into the deck for later use. We don't have a Legion in this deck, so this is the only way we get to recycle our cards.

Paisley

A Battle Sister Cocoa for Magus. This is one of the lesser used Magus cards because it messes up your columns discounting calling over her, but she can be used to dig through the deck if you're looking for something in specific. Often used as a panic button to try and find heals if you desperately need one on your next or current turn to survive, or to find a Crit to end the game.

Tetra:

Why Tetra Magus over Amenosagiri? Tetra Magus is a Magus, which is especially important for Pentagonal Magus, and we don't need the unflips due to Cone Magus. This card can protect a rear guard Ring Magus, something that might not come up often, but denying Magus their Ring Magus plays is often a way to slow them down dramatically. Tetra Magus helps against this.

Circle:

Another card run mostly for her name. The nice thing about Circle Magus is she reveals on ride, so you can set up for your next turn or crack Semilunar Magus on turn 1 if you really need the additional cards to survive the matchup. This is only really relevant against high pressure decks like Spike Brothers and/or Aqua Force, but having the option is nice.

Overall, a nice solid 7k body with a decent skill.

Crescent

Honestly the most underwhelming card in the deck. Her 9000 boost even when you get the skill off is only relevant behind a Cuore Magus. This card is generally used to see your top deck. You very rarely call this with the intent of using her as a continuous 9000 booster rather than calling her as a 6000 who can see the top card of your deck every turn. Never place this card behind your Vanguard, it doesn't add anything on activation and unactivated it clogs you with a weak 6000 booster. If for some reason you find a Crescent Magus behind your Ring Magus, remember that you choose the order that your effects activate. Activate Crescent Magus first, this way, if you do pick up the card from Ring Magus, you aren't left guessing as to the identity of the next card, which leads to a complete fail of an attack, being 1000 short of hitting everything in the format.

The 9000 is only relevant in the very very rare crossride matchup, because 14000 + 9000 is the 23000 magic number against CRs.

Cone:

Cone Magus is fantastic because she allows for easy countercharging. We only run two as you're very unlikely to go through 9 or more counterblasts in a game. If you wish, you may cut a Crescent Magus for a third Cone, but I've found two to be an optimal number for this card. She also is a 7000, excellent to slap behind your Vanguard.

Octagon:

Meet Perfect Guard number 5 and 6. Well, not exactly. Octagon Magus however, is amazing and will save you a card or two in any attack you decide to use her for. The best use for Octagon I've found is holding two, then dropping them both in the same attack to make 30000 shield with two cards. Once again, she also has a 7000 body, making the desperate situations where she hits play less painful.

Overall, amazing card. Would consider bumping up to 3 or maybe even 4.

Stellar:

This card has two uses. First, you can use her to essentially draw a card. Secondly, you can use her like Crescent Magus, to reveal and see the top card of your deck to make every other Magus on your board live. She refunds her cost if she blanks, which makes using her every turn viable. I believe the intention was having her in front of Crescent, leading to an 18000 column and drawing a card, but better beaters exist in this deck. Although you can still totally do that if you want.

Rhombus:

Here we get to the good stuff. If a 9+3 attacker is the equivalent to bringing a gun to a knife fight, Rhombus Magus is bringing a Howitzer to a gun fight. This card always attacks for 14000, due to the amount of reveal synergy in the deck. I'd also like to mention her fantastic synergy with Stand Triggers, which you can predict the appearance of, making 26000 columns easily. Personally I find that unnecessary and very winmore, but the option is definitely there. Once again, you can deliberately blank to see the top card.

Cuore:

Shittier Rhombus Magus. Place in front of Crescent Magus for 21000 column. Only reason she's here.

Briolette:

I used to think this card was the best in the deck. And yes, while Briolette is fantastic for finding your pieces, she can also be quite counterproductive. Think of her as a reliance piece. You only need one of her due to the fact she should never be retired or end up in drop outside of being damaged, and then you'll quickly see how efficient the deck runs without this card. Note that if you want to get rid of your Briolette for any reason, you can use Lozenge to shuffle her away. Essentially, this card weakens your draw engine for a turn to give you guaranteed flips and extra gas. A good card, just don't run more than one.

Ring:

Behold! The best common ever printed! ...Probably. Ring Magus takes everything that was good about Stellar Magus and Rhombus Magus and combines them into one card with only a slight downside. She doesn't refund her cost. Ever. But hey, who cares when this card is drawing cards out the arse and also making 21000 columns like they're nothing. Oh yeah, she also goes off on Rear Guard.

Pentagonal:

Unfortunately we can't run 8 Ring Magus so we have to run 4 of this instead. She does attack for 16k with 2 crit for Free every turn, which can be nice. Extra copies of this card are excellent stride fodder, as you are unlikely to reride her. Generally the 3 you see first is your Vanguard for the entire game. Ring Magus can back up on RG and Pentagonal makes for a decent 11000 attacker and/or stride fodder if you see Ring first.

Globe Magus:

btw you can use this card during trigger checks. just thought you should know.
