Paleozoic Cambrian Explosion

[Normal Trap]

 

Discard 1 "Paleozoic" card from your hand; Special Summon 2 "Paleozoic" Trap Cards as Normal Monsters (Aqua-Type/ WATER/ Level 2/ ATK 1200/ DEF 0) (These cards are NOT treated as Trap Cards.) from your Deck. You can only activate 1 "Paleozoic Cambrian Explosion" per turn.

Why not make it an actual Normal Trap, and a Paleoizoic Trap Monster now that you are at it? xD

The 1-turn delay of the Trap would balance out the card being a 2-material Rank2 setup.

By the way, did you intent this Trap to Summon the Paleozoics without their trademark immunity to monster effects?

Why not make it an actual Normal Trap, and a Paleoizoic Trap Monster now that you are at it? xD

Well... While a lot of people are annoyed by Paleozoics... I thought it would be nice possibility to give them to the ability make a quick Opabinia since that is the starting struggle of the Deck. Though I guess from hindsight it maybe too much considering what Opabinia is capable of. And yes, I intended them to not get immunity like they naturally would... I considered that temporary vulnerability to monster effects as an additional drawback along with the discard cost.

IDK if it may be too much, but my suggestion is because giving it the speed of a Normal Spell while still treating it as a Normal Trap looked awkward and a bit too convenient to me. As a Normal Trap not only you slow it down, also you make it stick closer to the Trap theme of Paleozoics. Not to mention it rewards you if you already have an Opabinina on board to activate it from the hand.

Then it give Opabinia the ability to search it as well...  However, I'll go with your suggestion until I am otherwise persuaded again. It seems like it would be a fun new avenue, and make Opabinia more  explosive enough to even make Anomalocaris with ease (prior to link format). XD

I'm late, but I wanted to comment on this earlier when it was still a Spell.

 

I was going to propose that you keep Cambrian Explosion a Spell but not have it also be treated as a Trap. As Darj's said, it was clunky, yet it was unneeded. The card's already good for letting you Xyz Summon using Paleozoic monsters on your first turn whereas you likely couldn't otherwise. Also, it's not clear as to whether you can Chain to Cambrian Explosion the effect of a Paleozoic Trap that you discarded to activate the card. As a Spell, you know that you won't be able to Chain the effect in the Graveyard so there's no confusion involved. I reckon this is why Pikaia and Dinomischus don't discard by effect. (Of course you could always make it discard by effect as a Trap.)
