A better version of Storm, which now can destroy all cards on the field.

Heavy Maelstrom

Normal - Spell

Destroy as many cards you control as possible, then destroy as many cards your opponent controls as possible, up to the number of cards destroyed by this effect. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.

Every heard of Storm? Does the same thing with just Spell/Trap cards and doesn't ever see play. With this, you can trade Spell/Traps for monsters your opponent controls and vice-versa, although this card would probably be incredibly biased to Decks that get advantage by destroying their own cards (although tbf that's the only way you would get advantage from a card like this).

The restriction is so you don't just bring back all of your stuff just to kill your opponent. Besides that fact, it's a lot more fun to generate big boards with the kind of Decks that would use this card, so this just gives you an excuse not to attack.

I don't think it's broken, but with its exploitability, it might need a restriction, like "you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of the turn" so some Decks that would be OP with this card don't become OP. I don't think it needs to come to that, but whatever.

I don't think it's that OP, considering a bunch of board wipes already run amok. And this one requires your cards to actually BE destroyed to destroy your opponent's. I could see Fire Kings playing this to its utmost potential since, as you said, they benefit off of destruction. I think it's fine as is, but if there was going to be a restriction or something, maybe a discard, LP cost, or skipping the Battle Phase would suffice. I don't think it needs something as strict as a summon lock.

I really like this for its versatility of its targets and the potential it has for decks that actually want to destroy their own stuff.

I think "cannot conduct the Battle Phase the turn you activate this card" is a great idea, especially since you can stack Soul Charge on top of it and get back your monsters that you destroyed.

The point was definitely to benefit Decks that like destroying their own cards (since otherwise, this is just a -1). Fire Kings definitely seems like a good archetype for the card.

Storm is still an effective niche card; I remember a Pendulum deck, Qliphorts IIRC, used it to destroy their scales and thus removing the Summon restriction from the Pendulum effects so they could go for Xyz plays and whatnot. So Storm is already a good niche card, while this is an arguably better Storm that trades the Battle Phase for versatility; is this really a justifiable card? IDK.
