Quick-Play Spell Card
Effect: If your opponent activates a card or effect during your turn: Choose 1 card in your hand; your opponent declares 1 card type (Monster, Spell, Trap), then if it is different from the chosen card, negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. Otherwise, discard 1 card.

This card is from a Yu-Gi-Oh story I am making (and has been published in the Creative Writing section and a work in progress). From time to time, I will post cards used in certain situations in my story on here just for some feedback on card balance. Feel free to check it out too by the way.

This looks like a fun card to play. It would be among the few Quick-Play Spells with negation effects, too, and those have certain perks, like against hand trap effects.

The only thing that bugs me, and that can be fixed with a simple re-word, is that the card declaration should be part of the effect, not the cost; otherwise, if your opponent guesses right, you could "cheat" by chaining, let's say, Karma Cut or any other card with a discard cost to this card's effect, so you get to discard the card you chose before this Quick-Play's effect resolves, off-setting the punishment. Although you are already losing a card for the right guess (the Quick-Play Spell itself) so resorting to such trick shouldn't be that much of an unfair play.

You almost got it. I will give it a shot:

If your opponent activates a card or effect during your turn: Choose 1 card in your hand; your opponent declares 1 card type (Monster, Spell, Trap), then if it is different to the type of chosen card, negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card. Otherwise, discard 1 card.

My favorite part is that it's a QUICK-PLAY that NEGATES. That isn't seen very often and I was considering myself how you would do it. This is closer than I have been.

Restricting the negation to your turn makes this purely a defensive/top deck card that could definitely go wrong, but it can negate anything outside of the Counter Traps you'd usually think of. I tend to not like negation for just stopping the duel, but this isn't that kind of negation, is definitely a breath of fresh air from hand trap negation and solemns.

Tbh you could make a bunch of negation under this kind of idea. Just has to be a Quick-play that you can only activate during your turn, which isn't a hard category to fit in. Wonder how far people could run with the idea.
