The Grim Oktoberfest

"Performince" is a deck of Plant- and Zombie-Type monsters who are all Level 2 ✪✪ and DARK attribute. They use the Excavate mechanic to Special Summon monsters used for Xyz Summon and to fill their Graveyard. Additionally, they all have protection in battle, in spite of their low ATK and DEF. This allows them to swarm the field but maintain numbers if they cannot accomplish everything they need to.

I intended to provide these cards with the support necessary to allow for swarming the field which Zombies and Plants provide. Lonefire Blossom, Miracle Fertilizer, Mezuki, Zombie Master, and Book of Life give easy Special Summons to these monsters, allowing them to form combos. Additionally, cards like Armageddon Knight and Allure of Darkness speed up the deck due to its reliance on DARK monsters. Other cards that fit in this deck include Sylvan Peaskeeper, Super Solar Nutrient, World Carrotweight Champion, Twilight Rose Knight, Uni-Zombie, and Caligo Claw Crow

When using Performince, the player can keep their opponent at bay because the monsters can only be removed by card effects. Decks that rely on using battle to destroy monsters will struggle to keep up with the summoning of monsters that are invulnerable to destruction. However, Performince can do little damage on its own if faced with such decks; it has removal, but the monsters cannot safely change to Attack Position or else the player will take battle damage. Luckily, to remove the lesser Performince cards is to waste resources which could have more application against other monsters during the same duel.

Some Xyz Monsters that would supplement this deck include Cat Shark, Number 45: Crumble Logos the Prophet of Demolition, Number 96: Dark Mist, Paleozoic Anomalocaris, and Sky Cavalry Centaurea.  Not many Synchro Monsters have synergy with this deck since it requires lots of laddering, but Plants and Zombies open up much of the Extra Deck simply by nature.

I had first created this deck last year without posting it but decided that it would be interesting to give it a chance to shine. I have not tested it in a long time but I do believe it needs testing. Feel free to import it, although I do not have images.

Now that's what I call formatting.

The first thing that really comes to mind is the ease of Summoning the boss. In any Deck where you can Summon Dark Mist, such as in Burgesstoma, you then have 1 Xyz monster with 3 materials. Then you go through all of your other Rank 2s in this archetype, resulting in 1 Xyz Monster with 7 Materials, meaning you immediately go into the boss which now has all of the attached Performince monsters' effects AND Dark Mist's. You don't even have to play the archetype to get access to it.

Another thing, more directly related to the set as a whole, is the lack of speed. Butterfingers and Chicken Scratch are the main enablers within the set, with extremely powerful on-field/Summon effects, and Swallowtail can help if you open a Lonefire. The monster's themselves aren't terrible, as when you get the ball rolling, most of them have their uses at some point or another. The main problem is in the S/T which are almost entirely late game. A Cut above is outshone by Monster Reborn, even with this one at 3, and Meat Mania needs 3 monsters in your GY to be even playable. Meatmania sets up your cards for milling in a really helpful, but only the Xyzs and 3 MD cards actually mill (Butterfingers, Whirlwind, Meet and Greet). So, rather lacking in support there tbh. It's not extremely cohesive, but its functional.

There's nothing incredibly out of place at the moment, particularly among the Xyz Monsters which I rather like save for our easily you can spam them out (Yes, Zoodiac does it better, but their boss is much more situational), but these are two main problems that I think your cards have to get around. But otherwise, I really don't have any complaints. Decent set.

From this I take away that the boss needs more strict summoning condition and that the deck needs more combo starters. This could manifest in more Special Summons from excavation as well as giving some of the spell cards more immediate effects.

I had actually forgotten than Monster Reborn was allowed again and did not consider that A Cut Above would be underwhelming.

I think the main thing this deck needs is more things that activate in the Graveyard, since there's enough excavation between the field spell and some of the monsters to catalyze the deck. Problem is, it doesn't do anything once you start it.

I will update the topic shortly.

I still disagree that there's enough excavation. The Field Spell doesn't even excavate; it sets up for excavation. You only have 3 cards in the main deck that excavate and send to the GY, meaning if you don't open them (exception is Chicken Scratch) you have to wait until you do. And the lack of real searching means that you can't grab them when you need to.

It was supposed to excavate....

Perhaps I just forgot what it did then. Anyway I'm still busy so I'll change it later
