Perry Ellis.
Theme: the idea behind Damage Reptiles is similar to Counter Fairies or Dark Tributes (Lair of Darkness). none of them follow a named "Archetype" theme but rather focus on the effects and ultimate goal of the theme in order to obtain its win. Archetype Specs (M/EX/S/T): 5/0/2/1 [spoiler=Monsters]Scaley NestEARTH | Level 1 | Reptile | EffectIf your opponent is dealt Effect Damage; You can Special Summon this card from your hand or GY. If this card is Special Summoned by the Effect of a Reptile monster, inflict 500 Damage to your opponent. If you inflict Effect Damage to your opponent (Quick Effect): you can send this card to the GY, Special Summon 1 Reptile monster with DEF equal to or less than the amount of Damage inflicted from your Deck. You can only use each effect of “Scaley Nest” once per turn.500/500 Writer’s Note: the idea for Scaley Nest came to me when I was trying to think of ways to continuously up the amount of Effect damage that you could do in a turn. I thought that it might also be a good idea to make it a One for One target but decided against having its damage effect being activated upon just a standard Special Summon. I thought that its last effect could be an interesting way of getting out high level Reptile monsters you might play in this deck. Edits: changed Scaley Nest’s effects to a hard OPT limiting its overall abusableness. Frilled RazordileEARTH | Level 3 | Reptile | EffectOnce per turn, you can Discard 1 Reptile monster; inflict Damage equal to that monster’s ATK or DEF, whichever is higher (if equal you can choose). When another Reptile monster you control inflicts effect damage to your opponent: your opponent discards a card. If this card is sent from the field to the GY, you can add Reptile monster from your Deck to your Hand.1300/800 Writer’s Note: Razordile is meant to be the main damager of the Deck Hench why his effect can deal so much damage. Its effect is limiting though, with the only non-theme Boss monster that would make since to run in this deck is the reptile Earthbound Immortal. The discard effect might be a little OP so let me know about that. And ya it’s also a searcher. Sinister MambaEARTH | Level 3 | Reptile | EffectYou can Send 1 Reptile monster you control to the GY, inflict Damage equal to that card’s Level/Rank x200. You can only use this effect of “Sinister Mamba” once per turn. Each time you inflict Effect Damage to your opponent, decrease the ATK and DEF of Face up non-Reptile monsters by the same amount. If this card is sent from the field to the GY, you can special summon 1 Level 4 or lower Reptile monster from your GY.1500/1000 Writer’s Note: Mamba’s first effect was given to it with its special summon effect in mind. At this point I was trying to think of more gimmicks for this theme to have, since for the most part all theme monsters are pretty weak I thought I might be interesting to give the monsters another way of beating your opponent. Edits: changed its Effect Damage Effect to a hard OPT. Bog Crawling LizardEARTH | Level 3 | Reptile | EffectThis card can attack your opponent directly. Battle Damage inflicted by this card is also treated as Effect Damage. When this card inflicts Damage to your opponent’s life points, you can target 1 card, send it to the GY. If this card is Sent from the Field to the GY, add 1 Spell/Trap card that specifically lists “Reptile monster” in its text from your Deck to your hand.900/1200 Writer’s note: Grave keeper’s vassal + Altergeist Meluseek = BCL? Yep that’s what it is. it also has a nifty little effect that allows it search out Reptile Support Cards. Komonaga, Lord of the Dark BogEARTH | Level 7 | Reptile | EffectWhile you control another Reptile monster, this card cannot be tributed. Once per turn, if you inflict effect damage to your opponent, you can Special Summon this card from your hand and if you do; inflict damage equal to the number of cards on the field times 500. Your opponent cannot Special Summon monster(s) with DEF equal to or less than the amount of effect damage inflicted this turn. Once per turn if this card would be destroyed or removed from the field, you can send 1 other Reptile monster you control to the GY instead.2700/2100 Writer’s Note: The Boss monster of the Deck, I decided to give him a not tributing clause to help his Special Summon lock effect work for longer than one turn. His Special summon lock effect combos really well with both Razordile and Reptile Farm. For example, if you use Razordile’s Effect to send a Reptile with high ATK or Def to the GY and then Special summon Komonaga off the damage, then monster with DEF less than that damage that turn. Reptile Farm only doubles that number. Its last effect helps activate the other monster’s search/ Special summon Effects. [spoiler=Spells]Reptile FarmField SpellReptile monsters cannot be targeted by card Effects. Effect Damage dealt to your opponent by the Effect of a Reptile monster is Doubled. During the End Phase, Draw card 1 card for every 1000 effect damage that was inflicted this turn. Writer’s Note: Since this was more of a themec archetype rather than a straight up tradition one, I thought it would be a good idea to give Reptiles in general a good support card. Reptile Farm protects all Reptile monsters from effect destruction and targeting (Aliens are good now?) and also now combos with Backup Supply, this theme, and Reptile=damage pretty well. Edits: changed to only negating Targets and only effect damage for draws. Snake PitContinuous SpellWhen you inflict Effect damage to your opponent place 1 “Scale” counter on this card. Once per turn during either player’s turn, you can remove any number of “Scale” counters from this card in order to activate 1 of the following effects:· 1: Inflict 500 damage to your opponent.· 2: Gain life points equal to the amount of Effect damage dealt this turn.· 3: Target 1 Reptile monster you control, it gains ATK equal to amount of Effect damage dealt this turn.· 4: Add 1 Reptile monster and 1 Spell/Trap that specifically lists “Reptile monster” in its text from your Deck or GY to your hand.Writer’s Note: I might change some of these effects and give one or two of them to the Boss monster for the Theme but for now they’ll stay on Snake Pit. The main idea behind this card is what to do what all the damage you inflicted. Edits: Snake Pit now searches in a big way. [spoiler=Traps]King of the SwampNormal TrapTarget 1 Reptile monster you control, destroy monster(s) your opponent controls with DEF less than or equal to your monster’s ATK and if you do; inflict 500 damages for each monster destroyed this way. Writer’s Note: More spot removal with a way to damage your opponent further.
Dova
Mhhhhhhhm something interesting with Reptiles. They certainly fit the weaker theme Reptiles sort of having going on, and they look like fun cards. But let's go deeper! Your main line-up is...pretty good, actually. You have a wide range of effects, with discarding and ATK lowering in addition to the main damage of the archetype to make sure it can handle quite a few situations even without the burn. Mamba can trigger most of the monster's on being sent to the GY effects, but other than that, it's pretty hard outside of Link Summoning. I would suggest Scaly Nest being able to send any monster you control to the GY other than itself, and not triggering off its own effect, but even so that's easily abusable...which leads into my main issue with the archetype. No "You can only use this effect of this card's name once per turn.". Anywhere. This isn't inherently an issue, but with Mamba and Scaly, it's super easy to loop them. Scenario A) 2 Scaly in your GY, deal effect damage to your opponent, SS one of them, use its burn effect, SS another from the GY while sending the first to the GY to SS a Reptile from your Deck, and repeat. Scenario B) Mamba, send itself for burn, SS itself from the GY with its second effect. That one's even easier, and just a one card combo in any Deck. You could patch up an issue here and there, but unless you make it more specific, you'll have to hit the SSing effects hard. Love the field Spell, but the protection might be a bit too much. If a Reptile archetype does show up, then this is free protection right there, and combined with the second effect (which should probably just refer to effect damage and damage you've dealt as oppose to just damage that was dealt in general) it become downright scary. Snake Pit is pretty good, but could probably do with a supportive effect, like a search somewhere, to give it more bang for your buck. The 4+ could probably just change to 4, as why would I remove more than 4 counters? I love King of the Swamp, it's a really interesting effect that combos very nicely with the beating aspect of the archetype; good stuff. Razordile's second effect would probably read better as "When another Reptile monster you control inflicts effect damage to your opponent: Your opponent discards 1 card." Yeah, very broken at points, but I absolutely love the theming. Very good work for a burn Deck, and potentially more fun to play with/against than Trickstars :P
