If Harpie cards were published during the current meta game

Here are some ideas about how Harpie cards could be adapted to the current meta, facilitating the Special Summon and search power. Also, effects that return monsters to hand/Deck are potentiated with an additional boss monster.

MONSTERS

Cyber Harpie Lady

(This card's name is always treated as "Harpie Lady").

If your opponent controls more monster than you do, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand).

Fearsome Harpie Lady

(This card's name is always treated as "Harpie Lady".)

All WIND monsters gain 300 ATK. Cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent´s monster effects.

 

Harpie Lady Sisters

Level 6 WIND

Cannot be Special Summoned, except by the effect of "Elegant Egotist" or a "Harpie" card. You can tribute this card: Special Summon 2 "Harpie Lady" from your GY.

Harpie´s Pet Dragon

Level 7 WIND

You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by returning 2 "Harpie" monsters your control to your hand or by banishing 2 WIND monsters from your GY. Gains 300 ATK/DEF for each "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" on the field. Your opponent cannot target level 4 or lower "Harpie" monsters for attacks.

 

Harpie Perfumer

This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand that specifically lists the card "Harpie Lady Sisters" in its text. If you controlled a Level 5 or higher "Harpie" monster when you activated this effect, you can also add a "Harpie" Spell/Trap card, with a different name from the first. You can only use this effect of "Harpie Perfumer" once per turn.

>> This would allow searching Harpie´s Feather Storm if Harpie Lady Sisters, Harpie´s Pet dragon, Cyber Slash Harpie Lady or Level 7 Harpie Channeler were already on the field when it´s summoned.

Harpie Oracle

This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. You can only use each of these effects of "Harpie Oracle" once per turn.
● If you control a "Harpie" monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 Spell/Trap from your GY to your hand, that specifically lists the card "Harpie Lady Sisters" in its text, during the End Phase of this turn.

 

Harpie Queen

This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. You can discard this card to the GY; add 1 "Harpies' Hunting Ground" from your Deck to your hand. If "Harpies' Hunting Ground" is on the field: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. You can only Special Summon "Harpie Queen" once per turn.

Harpie Harpist

This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard. You can only use each of these effects of "Harpie Harpist" once per turn.
● When this card is Summoned: You can target 1 Winged Beast-Type monster you control (other than this card) and 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; return them to the hand.
● During the End Phase, if this card is in the Graveyard because it was sent there this turn: You can add 1 Level 4 Winged Beast-Type monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand.

 

Harpie Lady Threesome  (LINK-3 monster)

2+ WIND monsters
This card can attack up to three times per Battle Phase. Once per turn, if a monster this card points to is returned to the hand by a card effect: You can target a card on the field, return it to the Deck. If this card is destroyed by an opponent´s card, you can Special Summon up to 3 "Harpie Lady" from your GY.

Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast  (Rank 7 XYZ monster)

2 Level 7 WIND monsters
Gains 300 ATK/DEF for each "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" in your GY. While this card has Xyz material, your opponent cannot target other "Harpie" monsters with effects or for attacks. You can detach 1 Xyz material from this card; destroy all your opponent´s monsters, also this card cannot attack the turn this effect is activated.

>> Such a pity that we never had a rank 7 XYZ harpie monster. Also, I feel like a destruction effect would fit much more with the art of this card.

 

Synergy with Harpie Lady Threesome:

Harpie Dancer

This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. During your Main Phase, you can choose 1 of your unused Main Monster Zones; move this card from your Main Monster Zone to that zone. You can target 1 WIND monster you control; return it to the hand, then you can Normal Summon 1 WIND monster. You can only use each effect of "Harpie Dancer" once per turn.

SPELLS 

Harpie´s Hunting Ground

All Winged Beast monsters gain 300 ATK/DEF. If any "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" is Normal or Special Summoned: The player who conducted the Summon targets 1 Spell/Trap on the field; that player destroys that target. If this cars is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can add 1 "Harpie's Feather Duster" from your Deck to your hand.

Alluring Mirror Split

When this card is activated: You can add 1 Level 4 or lower ¨Harpie¨ monster from your Deck to your hand. When a "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" you control is destroyed by battle: You can Special Summon 1 "Harpie" monster from your Deck with a different original name than the destroyed monster. If this card you control is destroyed by a "Harpie" card's effect or your opponent's card effect: Target 1 "Harpie" monster in your GY; Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of "Alluring Mirror Split" once per turn.

 

Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation

Target as many monsters your opponent controls as "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" you control; destroy those targets, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half of the combined ATK of the destroyed monsters. "Harpie" monsters you control cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Cyber Shield

Equip only to "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters". It gains 500 ATK and 400 DEF. If this card is destroyed by a card effect: You can add 1 "Rose Whip" or "Aero Nail" from your Deck to your hand.

 

ADDITIONAL "FUN" CARDS FROM THE ANIME

Aero Nail - Equip Spell

Equip only to "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters". It gains 500 ATK. If this face-up card on the field would be sent to the Graveyard, you can equip this card to another "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" on the field instead.

Rose Whip - Equip Spell

Equip only to "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters". It gains 300 ATK. The effects of monsters destroyed by battle by the equipped monster cannot be activated until the end of the turn. An opponent's monster that battles the equipped monster cannot declare an attack during your opponent's next 2 turns.

 

Harpie Lady Sparrow Formation - Counter Trap

Activate only when you control 2 or more "Harpie Lady(s)". When an opponent´s monster declares an attack: end the Battle Phase.

Alluring Shadow - Continuous Trap

Change all your opponent monsters to Attack position (face-down monsters are Flip Summon to Attack Position). If you control a "Harpie" Winged Beast monster; your opponent´s monsters must attack, if possible.

 

 

Do they make sense? How competitive do you think they would be?

I think if they were fully rereleased today, I think they would just consolidate all of the Harpie Lady into a single monster and then just make other Harpie monsters without the "Lady" name condition (similarly to how Cyber Dragon eventually bit the bullet and just stopped referring to the "Cyber Dragon" and instead switched to "Cyber Dragon" monsters/cards). I also think they would make the Field Spell's destruction optional.

 

Interesting concept overall, though. Would make for an potentially engaging "game" in the card workshop to pick an older theme and remake it with more modern standards/retrain all of the cards.

Agree to what you suggest about the name contition. It would have been easier to name them "Harpie Lady (queen/channeler/etc)"...
