They are judges of the Underworld, acting fairly to all souls, sending them to the place they have earned. Whether it be Phlegethon (River of fire) or the Elysian Fields. @Cohesive: I'm only doing Greek Mythology, Leonidas was a King of Sparta who played no part in the Mythology of the country.
