What makes a card banworthy?

So often a discussion thread (or a [DISC] thread, as you lot seem to label them now) gets interrupted by people asking how they can "prove" that a card should be banned, or what makes a card banworthy. So let's settle this here.

 

What qualities must a card have in order to be banworthy?

So, we have:

 

Skill-less Advantage

Low-cost Advantage

Combos

OTK's

 

Does every banworthy card fall into one of these categories? Does every card that falls into one of these categories need to be banned? What defines skill? How costly does something need to be to avoid being considered "Low-cost"? Thunder Dragon is a +1 that has a very low cost, doesn't seem to take any skill to use - you just discard it from your hand - and has been used in OTK's such as Shadowpriestess FTK. Should we ban Thunder Dragon?

Well, advantage is a funny thing, because it has to be made in a certain way to be broken. Like, as you gave an example of, Thunder Dragon does give advantage, but not much considering the conditions in which the cards themselves can be used. And Ojamagic is another card that gives advantage, but to many it's a very worthless advantage.

 

Pure circumstance, and gameplay seem to determine it xP

Thunder Dragon gives "hand advantage" but it doesn't translate into a tangible advantage during a duel' date=' using it's effect gives no benefit towards allowing you to win. A banworthy card has to make it easier to win a duel, not just give hand/field advantage.

I don't feel as though any one thing, or multiple things makes a card broken. Its like a 6th sense. It comes naturally, and to others it has to be defined. A banworthy card Should be a card that is easily accessible and abuseable. No card is banworth by itself, it always takes, ALWAYS needs other cards to make it banworthy.
