if the experiment is successful then yes it will destroy the world maybe not through a black hole

but when you split/smash an atom it explodes your not supposed to split up atoms...they're to small!!!!

but thats only if it works

if it doesnt they'll be the laughing stock of the world.

of course if we thought it would work we'd be stopping them from killing us all.

but thats only if it works the wrong way

It's topics like this one that make me fear for the future.

Come on, people? A ****ing BLACK HOLE? Give me a break. Do you know how long we've been smashing atoms? The better part of the 20th century. Why would this be any different?

"Oh, but it's the most powerful atom smasher ever blah blah blah!"

Big deal. So what if it's the most powerful? It's not that much more powerful than the next most powerful one, and, in case you haven't checked lately, we're all still here.

In closing, anyone who believes that the world is ending tomorrow because of this is either stupid, gullible, a scaremonger, or all three.

NOTE: I use "atom smasher" in the loosest possible way.

Yeah' date=' we're all gonna die because a scientist will make a black hole and kill us all.

This is the smartest thing i've heard today.

It might happen - I've heard of a gigantic particle accelerator being built, in Switzerland (maybe, can't remember)...

There's something you have to understand.

Black holes fly through our galaxy all the time, the thing is that they travel at the speed of light, and displace so little that we don't notice it.

IF this black hole were created, it would travel with the earth, and EVENTUALLY become a problem. It would not destroy the world instantly, it takes a long time for a black hole to accumulate mass and power.

Plus, they've done this with Electrons before, they've smashed neutrons into atoms, nothing as destructive as forming a black hole has happened, despite the mass being much greater on the one side in comparison to the neutron in nuclear fission.= in this case.

Get real, IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

Oh, that? A black hole? They've already crashed those two atoms together, jeez sakes. No black hole.

Definitely won't happen. It is absurd.

EDIT: Also, I read in the National Geographic Magazine that CERN is being used to try to find this thing that they call the `God' particle. *cue dramatic music here* I forgot most of the article and what the God particle exactly is, but, it won't cause a black hole.
