“Go!” Eria ordered. Her partner Gigobyte attacked ten creatures covered in eyes. He dug his claws in them, easily claiming victory.

“Heh, those idols were nothing.” Gigobyte boasted.

“Mistress Doriado said that we shouldn’t get overconfident.” Eria warned.

“What’s the worst that could happen?” Gigobyte asked before bumping into something. He looked up and saw a large greenish-grey creature with a single eye hanging from a cord.

“Crap.” Eria grunted. “Figures a Relinquished would be allied with Idols.”

“Taking care of this damn forest just got harder.” Gigobyte snarled. “What a drag.”

The Relinquished looked at the two. It nodded when as the circle that existed in place of its waist began to open. Eria began to feel herself being pulled forward, but struggled to break free. Gigobyte grabbed onto her leg to save her, but the force pulling at Eria suddenly stopped. Eria and Gigobyte looked up to see a boy with black hair wearing a cloak standing between them and the Relinquished. A bat sat perched on the boy’s shoulder. Surprisingly, the Relinquished turned and left. When it was completely gone from the area, the boy turned around, showing his face.

Eria completely froze as she stared at the boy. He looked no less than a year older than her, meaning he was probably twelve years of age. Gigobyte wanted to comment on Eria’s reaction, but regrettably chose not to. The boy approached them as he spoke.

“The Relinquished shouldn’t trouble you anymore.” His voice sounded a few years older than he was. “I ordered it to take its allies and leave. By the way, my name is Dharc. And yours?”

Gigobyte had to nudge Eria before she gathered herself. “Oh, my name is Eria, and this is my familiar Gigobyte.” Gigobyte gave a thumbs up when Eria introduced him.

“Oh, a Charmer, I see.” Dharc stated.

“That’s right.” Eria confirmed.

“Well then, allow me to introduce my familiar.” He nodded to the bat accompanying him. “His name is Cydo.”

The one-eyed bat floated around Dharc. Gigobyte, seemingly agitated by the bat for whatever reason, snarled at Cydo. Neither Eria nor Dharc paid attention to this.

“Wait, you’re a Charmer too?” Eria asked, surprised.

“Well, not exactly.” Dharc corrected. “I need to go through training to become a proper Charmer.”

Eria blushed and began to twittle her fingers. “Uh, actually, I can-“

“Hey Eria, what are you doing down there?” a voice called out. Eria turned to see who had spoken: Hiita, Eria's red-haired partner, who was accompanied by a small fox. Along with Hiita came their two other friends, Wynn, a green-haired girl with a small, yellow dragon flying by her side, and Aussa, a brunette with glasses that was followed by a small, horned, marmot with tiny wings. The three Charmers and their familiars stood atop the branches of nearby trees.

“I don’t want to ask again; what are you doing down there?” Hiita repeated. Eria wasn’t too thrilled to see Hiita, especially at a time like this, but decided to answer anyway.

“I was just-“she began before Hiita interrupted.

“We have to report the Mistress Doriado; the mission’s over!”

Eria was surprised.

Did that boy really take care of things? She thought to herself. She turned around to see that the boy was gone.
It would not take long for the Charmers and their Familiars to return to their home. However, the eight of them almost never resisted the chance to turn a return trip into a race. However, this had recently become quite a bore, since the results were always the same: Wynn and her small yellow dragon Bidud would always come first, Hiita and her little fox Zonu would alternate second and third place with Aussa and her small flying marmot Cochit, and Eria and Gigobyte would always end up dead last.

Eria was hoping that would change this time. Unbeknownst to all of her comrades, except for Gigobyte of course, Eria had drained as much water as possible from the plants in the forest, a technique she had only recently begun trying. She was careful with how much water she had taken in, since a sudden decrease in the plant population would be suspicious. This rule was well within those that the girls had agreed upon. Obviously, the most important rule was that whichever Charmer-Familiar team reached the end, which was always Mistress Doriado's palace. The second rule was that they could take whatever measures to win, as long as no one got hurt.

"Alright, is everyone ready?" the self-proclaimed "Lead Charmer Under Doriado" Hiita asked in anticipation. As always, her answer came in a collection of enthusiastic agreements, save for Wynn, who simply gave an impassive "Sure." Hitta scowled at the Wind Charmer's characteristically apathetic response, but shook it off as she shouted "Go!", swinging her staff through the air like a referee.

Bidud and Cochit flew off into the distance at the sound of "swish" made my Hiita's declaration, easily claiming the advantage for both Wynn and Aussa. Eria and Hiita, on the other hand, had to crouch so that their Familiars could climb onto their shoulders. Wynn used her abilities to manipulate the wind surrounding her to levitate herself above the trees while Aussa raised the earth below her, creating a pillar of soil that reached just above the highest tree in the forest. Similarly, Eria did the very same with the water she had gathered, only the pillar she had raised was that of ice.

"Nice work." Aussa complimented the Water Charmer. The two of them now actually stood on equal height. Simultaneously, although neither of them intended to make it as such, Eria and Aussa both created a path from the top of their respective platforms, running along them after Wynn, who was already far ahead.

Hiita seemed to be at a disadvantage, but this common in their "races". With a grin, Hiita shot into the air like a rocket, but this led to several plants and trees catching on fire. The Fire Charmer ignored her rather irresponsible act, but she had already shot ahead of Eria and Aussa. The two Charmers, who were now tied for last place turned to look at where Hiita once was to find the forest ablaze.

"Not again." Eria groaned as she hung her head in despair. Next to her path of ice, a path of solid rock formed. Eria looked to see that Aussa was willing to help her out.

"Don't worry," the bespectacled brunette smiled. "You shouldn't have to lose because of Hiita's carelessness."

"Thanks," Eria returned with a smile of her own. Eria stepped from her fragile path of ice and moved onto the path Aussa had created. When Eria had both feet on the path, the ice melted and moved above the fires. The waters spilled onto the burning forest, dousing the plants and trees. Smoke rose high above the two Charmers.

"Mistress Doriado won't like this." Aussa commented. Despite what Aussa's statement implied, Doriado was a rather benevolent individual, but they were wary of her regardless.

"Come on." Eria told Gigobyte, who was now standing at Eria's side. "Wynn and Bidud most likely won by now."

Indeed, Wynn was sitting on the steps that led to Mistress Doriado's palace. It was reminiscent of a cathedral, and Doriado quite rarely disproved this.

Bidud and Cochit, having already reached then end as well, flew above the Wind Charmer waiting for the others to return. They hoped that Gigobyte and Eria would be able to pass Hiita and Zonu for once. The three Familiars had their own reasons for detesting Zonu, but the one they mostly agreed upon was the young fox's cocky attitude and superiority complex.

Much to their disdain, Hiita already arrived. They could not stand the Fire Charmer herself either, but they still disliked Zonu more.

"Where's your Familiar?" Wynn asked.

"Come on," Hiita scoffed. "So we got separated. Zonu's strong, so I know he'll be here soon."

"How did you two get se-" Wynn's attention was taken from the smoke that rose from the forest. The Wind Charmer breathed a very sigh.

"Don't tell me you tried to burn the forest again, Hiita."

"I what?" Hitta turned to the smoke. "Eh, I guess Eria took care of it."

"You have no idea how much I want to hit you right now."

"Can I do it?" Bidud and Cochit asked at the same time. Hiita remained silent, realizing that reasoning with Wynn was pointless.

Elsewhere, Gigobyte was wrestling with Zonu, who was already wounded. Eria and Aussa were trying to stop the little reptile, but to no avail.

"Gigobyte!" Eria tried to order. "He's hurt, so don't be making it worse."

"Come on, Eria!" Gigobyte whined. "We never get this kind of chance."

"Sorry Eria," Aussa added in. "I'll be going, I guess. You can handle Gigobyte, right?"

Before Eria could try and keep Aussa from leaving, the Earth Charmer was already on her way.

An unfortunate demon, an Archfiend to be precise, met its end by a wide sword with the shape of a dragon’s head embedded into the hilt. The warrior that held the sword sheathed it. He had no true name, but preferred to be known as Zera. Accompanying him was a goblin dressed in a fancy blue outfit, showing that he was quite rich. Zera dragged the Archfiend, which was merely a Desrook, by its many tentacles.

“Come, Baal.” Zera ordered, addressing the goblin. “The exchange point is not too far from here.”

Baal, who seemed to be suffering from the threats the desert had to offer, nodded.

“Good, more money for me! Hopefully they have some cheap drinks, or maybe some women to charm me.”

“Baal,” Zera replied coldly, “You are an embodiment of many sins. Do not be surprised if you are to be slain should we reach the Sanctuary.”

Baal shivered as he thought through Zera’s warning. Zera was determined to find the Sanctuary in the Sky, and Baal was only helping him to gain more money.

Many hours passed, but the sun still shone brightly. The two had finally reached a town, but it was clear that the town was one of poverty. Baal chuckled at this, but Zera, who now had the Desrook strapped to his back, glared at the goblin as he continued walking.

“These people are far less fortunate than you.” Zera began. “Try to understand the pain they must endure.”

“Why should I?” Baal retorted, “These pathetic humans are trash, that’s what separates me from them.”

“You repulse them, and me, in many ways, Baal. Fate may even find it fit to strip you of your riches.”

“Ah, quit your damn preaching. Are we there yet?”

“Indeed you are,” a smooth voice answered. Ahead of them stood a man with brown hair dressed in a what resembled a waiter's suit.

“Welcome, friends. My name is Mitsuo. I see you brought a bounty, no?”

Zera tossed the Desrook at Mitsuo’s feet. The resulting impact threw sand into the air. Mitsuo wiped the sand from his shirt, but soon gave up.

“So you want to get right to business? Well, I suppose you want the fifty thousand?”

Baal clapped his hands together, smiled, and nodded his head, but Mitsuo shook his.

“Sorry, but you brought me a Desrook. I was expecting a Shadowknight at the least. Seems your reputation is a bit exaggerated, Warrior of Zera. Sorry, but you’re only getting five thousand.”

Baal was clearly upset. The goblin attempted to attack Mitsuo, but Zera held his hand out to stop him.

“To me,” Zera answered, “It matters not. I want information on the location of the Sanctuary in the Sky.”

Zera’s words caught the attention of a few people, but the entire area quickly began murmuring. Mitsuo merely chuckled.

“Please, that old “fairy” tale? It doesn’t-“

“It does exist.”

Zera, Baal, Mitsuo, and the crowd turned to see who spoke. Leaning against a wall was a young, blonde man wearing an outfit reminiscent of a cowboy’s. He was tossing a single coin over and over again, always receiving heads.

“The name’s Deleng.” He said. “I’ll tell you about the Sanctuary…if you can beat me.”

Lucius Dai Grepher, a warrior with black hair dressed in an equally-black, sleeveless outfit, was climbing a mountain with his bare hands. He had agreed to find the daughter of Balter, the Wiseman leading the frontier that bordered the mountain. Actually, it would be far more correct to refer to Endymion, as it was called, as a city-state, given its developed technology and size. Athera, the woman Grepher had agreed to seek, had offered herself as a virgin sacrifice to appease the dragon that terrorized the region. Balter’s two older sons, Freed and Epidromeas, were more eligible to inherit Balter’s throne, but Athera was just as important to Balter as her brothers.

Grepher, who preferred to be addressed by his surname instead of his given name, finally found a protrusion on the mountainside that allowed him to walk. As he walked for what seemed like hours, Grepher began to notice that he was walking a spiral. However, not long after this realization did a cave entrance finally appear. Grepher took his sword, which he seemed to have to sheath for, in both hands and paced slowly through the cave. Grepher could hear other noises throughout the cave, and once he stopped moving to see where they came from, he realized that others were in the cave with him.

“Who’s there?” Grepher asked at last, the first words he had spoken since departing for his rescue. Grepher was answered with a fireball heading towards him from behind, but the attack was easily stopped with swing of his sword, causing the flames to fade out once the sword made contact.

“P-Please…d-don’t…hurt us,” A whimpering voice pleaded, which Grepher determined to be male.

“Don’t worry, Colin, Phidias will take care of him,” a more feminine voice assured the boy, who was apparently Colin.”

Grepher gripped his sword tightly, waiting for this “Phidias” to show himself. Suddenly, a rather large man carrying a sword appeared behind him and swung his weapon down, but Grepher was able to retaliate with a block. The man, who Grepher assumed to be Phidias, stepped back and charged forward for a second attack. Grepher prepared to block the attack a second time, but immediately found himself paralyzed, unable to save himself. Defenseless, Grepher was hit by the blunt side of Phidias’s blade.

Later, Grepher woke up laying against a rock, seeing Phidias, a young boy with red hair, who Grepher guessed was Colin, a woman, a male dressed in a brown cloak.

“No rope?” Grepher asked, amazed how inexperienced these people were “capturing” people.

“Shut up,” the women, who had blue hair, was dressed in yellow with green bracelets, and held a small yellow wand with a green jewel on top of it. “What are you doing here?”

“I was sent by Balter to rescue Lady Athera.”

“You mean you’re going to slay that dragon?” Colin asked. “But, he’s already heading back to the village.”

“Are you saying I spent hours getting here for naught?” Grepher asked, but there was not a hint of anger in his voice.

“I’m afraid so.” The fourth person said. “But, we are waiting here for its return. Sir Balter is unaware that we left the city to come here, but we are certain that the dragon will return within one hour. We will happily accept your assistance. I am Nicias. I believe you already know Phidias and Colin. The women amongst us it-“

“I can introduce myself, thank you,” the girl interrupted. “My name is Alice.”

“You may call me Grepher,” the warrior told them. “However, if the dragon is gone, then we shouldn’t be waiting for it. We have to follow it to the village.”

“Actually, I’m fine sitting here.” Colin suggested.

“Screw that, we’re going after it.” Phidias bellowed.

“Well, since there are now five of us, it seems we can finally have a majority.” Nicias grinned at Alice. “Looks like we’re going after it.”

Alice grumbled in disagreement, but remembered a way to keep them here. “I thought you said you were looking for Princess Athera?” she asked Grepher.

“You’re right,” Grepher admitted.

“She’s not here,” Nicias told Grepher.

“What?”

“I searched the entire caves.” Nicias pointed to his head. “She’s not here. Either she got away or…well, I’m sure you can imagine what else may have happened.

The group of five headed towards the exit, only to hear a loud growl and the heavy beating of wings.

"Happy now?" Nicias asked Alice.
Rise of An Hero.

The Devil's Touch

The Looking Glass

Eria's Trials

Just to name a few suggestions. The Devil's Touch relates to the gradual transformation of both mentioned monsters (Gigobyte to Gogiga Gagagigo & Grepher to Dark Lucius/Grepher), the Looking Glass just sounds awesome, and Eria's Trials set up for a story revolving a bit more around Eria, the Water Charmer, possibly a sister or daughter of Dai. (See? I can make up good plots. ^^)

Dimension's Edge (because both end up going to the edge of the Different Dimension, specifically D.D. Borderline and Dimension Wall)

Falling Down

And If You Go Chasing Rabbits (it's a line from a song; the next line is "and you know you're going to fall")

Freed Souls (a pun if Freed is to be a significant character; he is known to meet Gagagigo, and though he isn't shown meeting Dai Grepher, they were both in the army, so it's possible. Maybe Dai Grepher serves under Freed the Matchless General. Plus, Freed has a Dark version too)

Evolution (just because)

My Body as a Shield (not only because Gagagigo is on here but also because Gagagigo and Dai Grepher both appear on similar attack-stopping cards, namely Sakuretsu Armour and Dimensional Prison)

Eviler Than Thou (since Gogiga Gagagigo finally has more ATK than Invader of Darkness)

The Paths of Destiny (because of the card, and because it sounds dramatic)

Così Come Previsto (especially if some chessmaster villain like Kozaky or Magical Scientist is behind everything)

The Devil's Touch I like that name' date=' but I'll save that for when I get to the Dark Counterpart part.[/b']

The Looking Glass Isn't that an Alice and Wonderland title?

Eria's Trials Well, it WILL focus on Eria at first.

Falling Down For Grepher becoming an Archfiend? Sounds good.

And If You Go Chasing Rabbits (it's a line from a song; the next line is "and you know you're going to fall") Lol

Freed Souls (a pun if Freed is to be a significant character; he is known to meet Gagagigo, and though he isn't shown meeting Dai Grepher, they were both in the army, so it's possible. Maybe Dai Grepher serves under Freed the Matchless General. Plus, Freed has a Dark version too) Ooh, good title.

Evolution (just because) A bit obvious, but it's okay.

My Body as a Shield (not only because Gagagigo is on here but also because Gagagigo and Dai Grepher both appear on similar attack-stopping cards, namely Sakuretsu Armour and Dimensional Prison) Possible chapter name.

Eviler Than Thou (since Gogiga Gagagigo finally has more ATK than Invader of Darkness) Again, chapter name.

The Paths of Destiny (because of the card, and because it sounds dramatic) Yes, it does sound dramatic. I think I'll go with that.

Così Come Previsto (especially if some chessmaster villain like Kozaky or Magical Scientist is behind everything) If Kozaky or Magical Scientist show up, they probably will be important. However, isn't Kozaky the reason behind Giga Gagagigo?

 • 3 weeks later...

Yeah, MAJOR delay in typing up Chapter 2, sorry. Oh well, Chapter 2 is up now.

Also, I've updated the way the chapter's will go. All chapters focus on certain characters will be separated into "Books". Since most, if not all of the character's will mainly stay in their own stories, there will be no crossovers until a new "volume" is released.
