Akira
Nearly a third of teachers believe that the theories of creationism and intelligent design should be given the same status as evolution in the classroom' date=' according to a survey... ...29% thought it should be taught in science lessons...[/quote'] Wut? J-Max
LOL! For people to believe that our Planet was made in 7 Days let them Study that in RE! (Religious Education) Darwin's Theory however is perfectly respectable for a Science Class.
Skuldur
Creationism is just lies. Where as Evolution is not. Some teachers are just ignorant fools.
CinnamonStar
Creationism is based on speculations and metaphysical beliefs, therefore it can't be considered a science. If you really need to put it somewhere, then into a theology or religion course, at the most. But actually, I don't think it should even be taught at school, as it is rather on the fundamentalist side. With all the scientific research and evidence we have nowadays, who would even believe that the world was made in 7 days and the way it is depicted in the bible? Aside from certain ignorant US politicians and probably a few others, but I'm talking about sane people. So yeah, I think creationism has had its primetime and should leave its place in the school schedule for something else. Cin
I can understand why teachers would believe this, its important to foster people's religious beliefs into school, and not put them down just because science doesn't back them up. For me Creationism should stay in RE and Evolutionism in Science (esp Biology), promote both. People may say one is right and not the other, but that's down to personal belief. Father Wolf
lulz creationism, lulz evolution. i find it funny all u guys intantly think christianity when it comes to creationism. because thats the only religion right? also evolution is a theory not a fact! creationism: ppl that think the universe was made by a divine being. evolution: thinks the universe just happened. creationism: thinks we were made by some type of magic.evolution: thinks we some how broke of from apes and over millions of years became what we are to day. thanks all to the proses of elimination. the point is evolution can solve some stuff but there is so many holes in the theory of evolution that science can not explain. CinnamonStar
creationism: ppl that think the universe was made by a divine being. Sure, but in the West, when people talk about Creationism, they usually refer to the creation of the Earth as it is depicted in the bible. At least, this is the way it seems to me, as the article appeared in the Times and as Blood Rose said, people usually put it on the same level as Christianity when they talk about it. Not only in the UK, but in the Western world in general.=/
Akira
The article said that Creationism is "The literal interpretation of scripture as an explanation for the origins of life", when I saw "scripture" I assumed it was referring to Genesis in the Bible. Benraino
Dude Creationism is a science guys. There can be room for more than one theory in a classroom. Tekken Ham
Creationism presents the paradox of forcing a specific religious belief on the students, thus creating a problem for everyone. Creationism also says, according to Genesis, which by my assumption, should be the same creation story for Judaism and Islam as they worship the God of Abraham, that we all magically poofed into existence in 7 days. (Physical or Metaphorical) However, where the hell does this but Dinosaurs? We have physical evidence of their existence, so did the Bible leave them out? Did Noah not have enough room? This also creates a paradox for other theories, different from Genesis, like the Clockmaker theory, and so on.

The Dark One
lulz creationism' date=' lulz evolution. i find it funny all u guys intantly think christianity when it comes to creationism. because thats the only religion right? also evolution is a theory not a fact! creationism: ppl that think the universe was made by a divine being. evolution: thinks the universe just happened. creationism: thinks we were made by some type of magic.evolution: thinks we some how broke of from apes and over millions of years became what we are to day. thanks all to the proses of elimination. the point is evolution can solve some stuff but there is so many holes in the theory of evolution that science can not explain.[/quote'] Thanks for completely misrepresenting Creationism, which = "And God made Adam from dirt. Then God made Eve from Adam's rib." and Evolution, which is simply an extension of mutation, and you don't notice religious fundamentalists saying that our cells don't mutate. That's the basic underpinning of biology, and it happens. Evolution is real, and it has nothing to do with whether the universe "just happened." The Catholic Church officially sanctions Evolution, by the way. I say neither should be taught in school' date=' as neither have been proven as facts[/quote'] Ok then, let's forget Science Class now, because everything in science is a Theory. That's the way scientific thought works. Everything is up in the air, and you use empirical evidence to look for the most logical conclusion. In a few centuries, evolution might be replaced by a better theory, but that doesn't change the fact that it is the best supported (I mean, every well-known thinker/scientist that is actually a scientist (I don't count religious fundamentalists who try to pose as scientists) accept evolution. It's a pretty damn solid theory) idea as of now.
