What is it with n00bs and Dragon decks?

Recommended Posts

LOL I SUMMON MAH BLUE EYS AND WIN

Honestly. Is it because when you are on a playground with other 8 year old kids, having the biggest Dragon out of everyone makes you the coolest?

I was in the library the other day having a few duels with my friend, and a young kid asked to see my trades folder, so I let him. When he saw Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, he said "WOW, you have Blue-Eyes Ultimate, you're so lucky!!"

I found that quite funny, but I told him he could easily get his own by buying a copy of the Retro Pack. He promptly left to do so.

Anyways, discuss.

Well, I'm 9, and I don't really like dragons

But I have a friend- He saw my Red Eyes cards, and then= "WOW! I'll give you 15 cards for it!"

And the only reason I didn't gave it to him- He was obsesed with it, And thing is, I wanted to give it him for free

So, yeah, I get what you are talking about

i read the title and assumed it was a bash to Dad Syncro and LS decks.

Your supposed to believe dragons are supposed to be the strongest, most powerful, beautiful creatures in existence. And Magic players who make smooth transitions to Yugioh, who knows Dragons (and rats) to be the hardest to acquire, immediately targets these creatures thinking the same thing.

Idk, its probably because there stats are usually high i guess.

dragons, on avg., look cool and have fairly good effects, so they are good to look at and to use, so kids think that if this dragon is good, that dragon must be good too, but of course, they are wrong about the lower level ones, they are not very good at all.

but dragons are a powerful type, any 6 star dragon or higher is at least "meh" in power and effect. what dragons have come out recently that are really crappy? not that many.

It's because kids got into the game by watching the anime, where everybody and his brother uses Dragons. Yugi uses Curse of Dragon and Winged Dragon Guardian of the Fortress; Kaiba built his whole deck around Dragons, especially the Blue-Eyes series (which has received even more attention because it's the anti-Zorc or something and is thus more useful than the Gods); Joey starts out owning people with Baby Dragon/Thousand Dragon, then gets a Red-Eyes; Mai uses Harpie's Pet Dragon; Rex uses Serpent Night Dragon and Red-Eyes, amongst other things; and two of the gods are named "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and "Winded Dragon of Ra". The McGuffins in the filler Doma arc were all Dragons, as were the Fusions created from them (except for Joey's card, since that made equips instead, but whatever). Not to mention that the most powerful single non-God monsters shown in the anime are the Big Five's F.G.D. and Yugi and Kaiba's Dragon Master Knight.

Then, in GX, they cut back on regular Dragons, but gave the local anti-hero an entire deck based around robotic Dragons. And that one guy whose name I can't remember had a Red-Eyes deck. And Kaibaman popped up once just to remind everyone how awesome the Blue-Eyes White Dragon is. And that other guy in the yellow dorm used Water Dragon and the Dragon-esque 'geddons. And the only Egyptian God not featured in GX was the only one that didn't have "Dragon" in its dub name. And Chazz has Armed Dragons. And let's not forget Rainbow Dragon, who served as a huge McGuffin god boss thing, followed by Rainbow Dark Dragon, which goes and kills the anti-hero. And then there were a lot of monsters that weren't Dragons but looked a lot like Dragons: [shining] Flame Wingman, Dragoon D-END, Yubel's later forms, and so on.

And then, in 5D's...do I really need to say anything here? Every bloody character has a God Boss Dragon Synchro that wins the game, and the whole plot is built around McGuffin Dragons being used to resurrect other McGuffin Dragons or something like that.

It doesn't help that, in the card game itself, Konami tends to take powerful non-Dragons and put "Dragon" in their names for no apparent reason. Cyber Dragon? Cyber Twin Dragon? Cyber End Dragon? Chimeratech Fortress Dragon? Chimeratech Overdragon? Ancient Gear Gadgetron Dragon? Solar Flare Dragon? Megarock Dragon? Barrel Dragon? Blowback Dragon? Gatling Dragon? Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Boundary? Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon? Levia-Dragon - Daedalus? Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus? And let's not forget that Konami has also made a lot of Dragon-Type monsters that are designed to work with non-Dragon themes - Judgment Dragoon, Rainbow Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon, Black Rose Dragon, Iron Chain Dragon, Deathkaiser Dragon, and so on. Dragons also have the most support AND the most anti-support of any archetype, so that gives them free advertising too.

The anime even acknowledged that n00bs love Dragons at the start of the KC Grand Prix filler arc, where some kid with a deck full of Vanilla Dragons gets owned or something.

N00bs just dont know how to use cards properly. They see Blue-Eyes as a splashable yet they neglect any card that can help them such as Trade-In, Future Fusion, possibly Prisma. They choose Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon before even thinking about Five-Headed Dragon. Some Dragons (with notable exceptions) can be used decently but not to a Meta breaking extent.
