Benraino
Plantsby Benraino, Today we will be looking at Plants, specifically how they are built. There are many different ways to build Plants thanks to Crossroads of Chaos. Crossroads of Chaos brought many different tricks for Plants, and some monsters to breathe support. Such cards as Tytannial, Princess of Camileas, Black Garden, Pollinosis and Black Rose Dragon help bring this deck to new heights. Monster As always we begin with monsters. We need monsters who are Plants, obviously. There are both good and bad types of plants, so we need to weed out the bad ones. We are going to use plants that Revive, Search, or Control the field. Let’s start out with the searcher, Lonefire Blossom. “Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 face up Plant-type monster to Special Summon 1 Plant-Type monster from your Deck.” This is pretty nice. It can get rid of any Plant monster and let you get another one. The great thing about this card is it can search itself, and monsters that would normally require a tribute. You can get big monsters like Gigaplant, or the previously mentioned Tytannial, Princess of Camileas. Lonefire Blossom also has more tricks that will be explained later on. This monster has 500 attack and 1400 defense, so his primary use is to get rid of himself to get a bigger and better plant. Let’s talk about the next important card in Plants, Gigaplant. At 2400 attack, 1200 defense, this card can hurt. Its Earth attribute, Plant and a Gemini. It is a blessing and a curse for it to be a Gemini. Now onto its effect. “This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this effect:● Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 Insect-Type or Plant-Type monster from your hand or Graveyard.” You can see how powerful it is. Bringing any Insect or Plant type from the grave is nice, but special summoning a tribute monster from your hand can really help. This card works well with Card of Safe Return as well, netting you a free monster and extra cards. You can get back things like Lonefire Blossom and Tytannial, Princess if Camileas as well as another Gigaplant or Blazewing Butterfly, for more special summoning and resurrection madness. As for its Gemini status, it’s a blessing because of its interaction with Blazewing Butterfly and Swing of Memories, which let us draw with Card of Safe Return. Next is our Princess of Camileas. Let’s look at her effect first: “You can Tribute 1 face-up Plant-Type monster you control to negate the activation of a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster's effect that targets a card(s) on the field and destroy it.” In order to use her effect, you must tribute a Plant-Type monster. Then it negates a card that targets a card(s) on the field and destroys it. Although there is not a lot of destruction effects that target, it still stops Dark Armed Dragon, Gladiator Beast Gyzarus, Gladiator Beast Bestari, Gladiator Beast Murmillo, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, and others. This card can also stop cards like Pheonix Wing Wind Blast, Brain Control and others.(Thanks again Slayer Supreme). At 2800 attack, she has enough to suicide into DaD, kills all synchros except Colossal Fighter and Red Archfiend Dragon and can swing for big damage. Now, let’s look at other monsters that will help us: Lord Poison helps revive stuff from the grave. He grabs any plant other than himself from the grave when he is destroyed by battle. He has 1500 attack so he can do some damage, and is searchable by Sangan. He is useful because he can restart the revival chain by getting back Gigaplant or Lonefire, as well as other targets if you don’t need to grab Blazewing Butterfly revives Gemini’s (other than Blazewing Butterfly) and shares some support with Gigaplant. It has 1500 attack, it is an insect and a fire type. No real broken support there but you could add in a UFO turtle or two to get Lonefire Blossoms or this card. Being a Gemini means another Swing Target, and fits in with Super Alloy Beast Rasputinis nicely. Botanical Lion is the last plant card we are going to look at. It’s Earth and Plant type. No surprises there. Its stats are 1600 attack and 2000 defense. Pretty meh, but its effect makes it stand out. It gains 300 attack for each plant type monster you control. So when he is summoned in attack he’s at least 1900(barring Skill Drain or Plasma) and control of this card can’t be switched. He can get up to 3100(with 5 plants) so he can provide needed muscle. Sangan searches out stuff, namely Lonefire Blossom, Blazewing Butterfly or Lord Poison. Morphing Jar: dumps dead cards/makes other revival cards useful, refuels hand. D.D. Crow: All around useful card. There are other cards for this deck, including Nettles and Copy Plant (tuners) along with weird tech choices like Metal Armored Bug, but I am not experienced in Plant Synchro. Spells Next, we are going to look at Spells. These cards are going to help us Swarm, Kill and Control the field. The first card we will be adding is Card of Safe Return. With numerous revival methods, this card is a must to help us dig through more of our deck. Allowing us 1 extra card anytime we revive is pretty nice, which we are going to be doing a lot of. Next up is Swing of Memories. It gets us one normal monster back, but the monster gets destroyed at the end of the turn. This is mainly to get Blazewing Butterfly (draw from Card of Safe Return), normal summon Blazewing Butterfly, get back Gigaplant (draw again) and then revive another monster, but can be used to get Gigaplant in a pinch. Another revival spell used that is found in Plants is Symbol of Heritage. It revives one monster, as long as you have 2 other monsters of the same name in the graveyard as well. It combos with Lonefire Blossom mainly, because you usually mill through 3 Lonefire Blossom, and get Gigaplant. Then this card comes online and allows you to get another plant. The last Revival card we are going to look at is Miracle Fertilizer. “Once per turn, you can select 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard and Special Summon it. You cannot Normal Summon or Set the turn you Special Summon a monster with this effect. If a monster Special Summoned by this effect is removed from the field, destroy this card.” This is pretty nice. It allows us to get back 1 Plant Type a turn. This is usually only used once, mainly to get back a Lonefire to search for plants. However, if you have enough protection, you can use this to get back many plants to hurt the opponent. You can’t normal summon or set so use carefully. Mark of the Rose is a new support card that helps a lot with Plant decks. “Remove from play 1 Plant-type monster from your Graveyard and equip this card to a monster your opponent controls. Gain control of the equipped monster. During your End Phase, give control of the equipped monster to your opponent. During your Standby Phase, gain control of the equipped monster.” Removing 1 Plant Type hurts, but a Snatch Steal-esque effect is pretty damn impressive. You only need one turn with Snatch Steal usually, and you can play three of these. You can use this to get a tribute for Gigaplant, Tytannial Princess of Camileas or get you an extra attacker for when you try to end the game, or remove a threat that stops you from winning. Future Fusion is used to dump Blazewing Butterflys and Gigaplants, in order to get Super Alloy Beast Raputinis (more on him later). If it survives two turns, you deck can turbo and probably win. Dragons Mirror allows you to get Super Alloy Beast Raputinis to the field, by removing Blazewing Butterflys or Gigaplants (more so Blazewing Butterfly). This can help swarm and win the game Lightning Vortex: To dump dead cards or to revive stuff later on and kill monsters. Card Destruction: Dumps dead cards and gets you a new hand. Monster Reborn, Giant Trunade, Heavy Storm, Brain Control: Self Explanatory. Yet again there are more cards for plants, but I am not familiar with them. If you want, post away how to use them. IT’S A TARP Pollinosis: It’s a Solemn Judgment for Plants. Just tribute 1 plant monster in order to use this(it’s a cost). Nothing more to say here. Reckless Greed allows you to speed through your deck, towards your OTK. Run 3 or 0. Pheonix Wing Wing Blast: Spins cards that give you trouble, including Synchros and fills your grave, while ditching dead cards. Ultimate Offering: You can use this to swarm the field. It is with Gigaplant to revive Lonefire/Gigaplant in order to swarm. You eventually have 3 Gigaplant and another plant, either Tytannial or Botanical Lion. Mirror Force and Torrential can help destroy stuff if you run them EXTRA DECK Just make sure you have 2 or 3 Super Alloy Beast Rapitunis for Dragons Mirror/Future Fusion in addtion to anything you might run in the Extra Deck. Final Thoughts Yes, I lost steam after I started to do spells. You should be able to get the gist of it. As always I take suggestions, just PM me them. Any Question?Good Luck. Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
Princess' effect does not have to be activated against an effect that would destroy a card. Her effect is stating that she destroys the card after negating it. A common mistake. Someone in SJC even made the mistake of using PWWB on her because of this misconception. Then again, he also tried to Brain Control a Lion. http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Card_Rulings:Tytannial%2C_Princess_of_Camellias Example: "Tytannial, Princess of Camellias" can be used against "Blaze Accelerator" and "Pitch-Black Power Stone". As for Dragons Mirror, its a card I was thinking about. Card Destruction is iffy, but I thought I should mention it. Also: I chose to write about Gigaswarm because its what I know best.
