Go to mars and see if there are any aliens. We do not believe in suck idiotic ideas but go to Mars and check if you are sure they exist. Go on. Who's stopping you? You people are just lonely even though there is an uncountable number of humans on Earth.

Ummmm....Are you really that pathetic? Seriously.

(Let me guess, you're a religious fundamentalist that doesn't think anything could exist other than on Earth because it doesn't say so in the Bible.)

You'll be surprised how curious scientists can be. They research almost their whole lives to discover of the destruction of our Sun a couple billion years from now (the "whole lives" thing was an exaggeration, since I have no idea how much time it takes to study these things) why won't they scrounge up a billion dollars to take a satellite to Mars just to see if they can spot any tiny extremeophiles? Humans are very curious creatures, and that's probably where NASA gets it's funding. Anyway, it would be interesting if this turns out. One scientist's got this idea to terraform Mars, but it has so much controversy and the project will probably take centuries of funding so I don't believe it will really kick off for colonization.

NASA has been Mars multiple times so has Russia. They already more or less ruled Organic Material out previously, but now they have new technology. Until we figure out how humans deal in continuously in a space rocket, people going to Mar might take a while.

Rag we will never colonize Jupiter, either it'll crush up which its gravity or kill us in its storm. I remember seeing a program that said Lightning on Jupiter would be strong enough to bring a plane down. The closest you wanna get to Jupiter is one of its moons, I keep forgetting which is the most like earth.

Please. Even the most extremists in the religious people know the bible isn't right 100% of the time.

well maybe like us just a little different...

No.

Microbes.

But frankly, you're all being very pessimistic. They're now saying that the universe is actually a multiverse composed of different universe-sectors which each have their own individualized physical laws, and you're all saying that we're the only life in this multiverse.

I don't. The chances of that is 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% or less.

There are more stars in this universe than there are grains of sand in every beach in the world. Around half of them are probably capable of bearing life.(e.g. Phoebe)

The chances of other life in this universe is 100%, since it has already been discovered. >.<

Besides' date=' the extremists saying other life forms were implying other life forms very similar to our own

[/quote']

But only Sith deal in absolutes.

Srsly, though, the odds of more us not existing in a universe so big there are conflicting laws of physics between multiple parts are about .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%.

True, it's only a matter of time before we discover it

But... other life forms similar to our own? No, I don't think so. The odds of ET being those slim grey humans with over sized heads is probably nil. We are talking about planets filled with different biomes here (maybe even biomes different than on Earth) and waaaaay different evolutionary paths. So... no near human aliens. Not to mention that we need to find on planets the necessary chemicals to create the chemical reaction that creates amino acids, then proteins (not to mention that you may or may not need carbon) then life. Currently, Titan and Europa are the best candidates for life (Europa) or life in the future (Titan). But due to the fact that for Europa one of the hitches is 1) Making a lander to penetrate the Europan ice and 2) Find a way to eliminate any microorganisms clinging to said lander and not contaminate the Europan environment with our foreign microorganisms.

Oh, wait, I just strayed waaaaay off topic, didn't I?

No you didn't.

Personally for that part the extremists are probably right' date=' but other extremists believe in the another version of you existing in another universe saying

[/quote']

The argument for life similar to our own uses the assertion that we are the best evolutionary path available. (Mammals always beat reptiles, etc.)

Whether or not that has any merit is yet to be proven, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of other life similar in basic appearance to us. (Still, the chances of us discovering sentient life anytime in the near future is practically 0, and sentient life similar to our own? Well, you get the idea.

Not really.

But again, the universe is too big even for the laws of physics. There are almost certainly a race of elves out there (we already have dwarves) somewhere, even if they are waaaaaaaaaaaay too far away for us to ever meet.

Yeah, what with constant expansion of the universe and all that. But for the ones we might meet in the far future (maybe near future with SETI probing nearly every inch of sky that is visible) any sentient beings that we meet will almost definitely not look like us, and if it is then it would be merely a coincidence. Also, the methane gas cloud could have just been excreted from the Earth's core or a volcano or something.
