Official Pokemon Discussion. (The 5th gen starts now)

Just after Raikou stops being distributed, I catch wind of the non-advertised ability to download one of the shiny beasts when one pre-orders B/W at an EB Games within any of several random weeks. FML.

So, what is the general consensus? Do we have leaked English names or are they a bunch of bullshit?

People are calling BS, but nobody has 100% certainty.

The names have definitely become exponentially worse since Gen I, that is one nostalgia-glasses comment I just must make.

I've been following the series since the beginning, and I must re-iterate here that the names have been just as bad in Gen 1 as they are now. They're just far too soaked in nostalgia for you to admit it.

Everyone will get used to them and will stop caring within a few months. It always happens.

Agreed. Plus we got some great names too, like Haxorus. I wonder if he will live up to his name.

Also, on a competitive note, I love people who forget the Rotom--As lost there ghost type. Just up against a Machamp and he refused to use DynamicPunch against my Rotom-W. It was great.

Maybe we've been submerged in Lapr-ass and whatnot for quite some time, but even when Diamond and Pearl came out, I didn't find the names to be that awkward. Now that I am seeing the name list for BW... I don't know, it just seems really awkward from my English perspective.

One or two names are making me facepalm, but then there's name that don't seem all that bad. On top of that, some of the names (Oshawott, for instance) were laughed at because people didn't get the reference.

Honestly, as I'm currently in the middle of designing a Mon-genre series of my own, I've grown to really appreciate the kinds of obscure things that TPCi reference in their names to make them seem natural.

I'm probably gonna be negged for this but:

Ditto

Muk

Squirtle

The creativity in those names are rather lackluster compared to the amount of work that goes into some of the newer stuff.

EDIT: People really need to look up changes in things like the Rotom types. There are probably still some people who don't know that explosion doesn't halve defense this gen, too.

The Explosion half is stupid, anyways. D:<

I thought Ditto, although kind of bland, was actually clever for what it was worth.

Muk was stupid, Squirtle was stupid.

But if you look at names like Articuno and Suicune, they look AND sound cool. When you look at Gen V names, they seem like unpronounceable random jumbling of letters. :/

Explosion only halved defense before because the game can't handle a value over 255, so they simply used 250 and halved the enemy defense. Honestly, Explosion isn't useful at all anymore...

And I agree that Ditto was somewhat clever. Bad example, I guess.

In any case, my point here is that we get some good and some bad every generation. I know there are people who actually like quite a few of the names we got.

And, although this probably doesn't mean much (what with my having ~5 languages, one of which is horrendously obscure, under my belt), I had no trouble pronouncing the names after I read the more difficult ones slowly and paused for a second to think.

Now pardon me for my intrusion but Alexis has lost her AR and I was wondering if someone could clone or use a code on their AR, my younger cousins are bickering amongst themselves about not getting the crowned beast they wanted and I would prefer to solve this fiasco soon. To ensure legitimacy of the order, I will put the pokemon I have caught and am going to trade upon participant's request up in the GTS and give you the pokemon name, nick, location, and trainer name. These pokemon were caught in the battle frontier and their effort values and IV's are maxed out for their nature. I am using the GTS as a legitimacy prover because most people of the hacking type know that illegitimate pokemon cannot be uploaded on the GTS or battle in the wi-fi tower. Currently, the uploaded pokemon is a glitch test but the trainer I am is Gold of Georgia, United States. Drop a private message if you can help and I would prefer for this to be settled before 7pm Central time. With hope that your day goes well- IkilledIGN.

Not all of them have been revealed yet.

Relevance?

All revealed names match the list. Until the opposite occurs, there's no point in talking about it.

EDIT: Pokemon Typing DS is getting localized (Apparently comes with a Bluetooth keyboard). The Black/White DSi is apparently going to be available in Europe. There's more games in the works for 3DS and Wii.
