I had my first experience with random battle today. It was really fun but right when I was in the middle of a battle I had to leave and lost connection... Also lolz'd when I got matched up with a guy with Level 31 Servine and level 20-16 other pokemon he quit of course.

Anyways what is a good nature for a:

Drillbur

Dunsparce

Also is there a Move Tutor/HM for substitute in this game?

I thought I had come up with a good team that wasn't thought up already, but there was one on smogon.

Ferrothorn is the quintessential wall and spikes and stealth rocks. That's where I started, when I realized Forretress didn't have the special defense to cut it this time around.

Ferrothron is amazing. He is one of my favorite pokemon atm cause he takes hits so well. He's one problem is he can't heal very well outside of Leech Seed.

What was the point? You asked us how to set up a Bold Donphan, and we replied that you are retarded for using a Bold Donphan. If you want to use a shiny Pokemon with a shitty nature, who needs to set it up? Hack moves like Shadow Force on there and troll the hell out of people. You have no competitive use for a Bold Donphan, anyways.

Also, it was kind of obvious from the 0 ATK EVs that Flame Dragon wasn't intending for an offensive-based set. Although I always think of Donphan as a strong wall, not just a wall.

So, how much did Unova screw things up for us?

We got Genosect at 99, something at 98, Hydreigon and other crap at 97, I think we even have a 101 just to troll like Garchomp.

Each generation, the speed tiers get progressively stupider. Infernape brought us 108, and Garchomp brought us 102, but it was still okay. But now we have 97, 98, 99, and some other crap. It's annoying. D:<

If someone's going for a pure wall, I'd think Ferrothorn should take team priority in all cases where damage output doesn't matter.

Also, I agree about the whole screwed up speed tiers. Hydreigon's fairly bad because everything outpaces it by ~2 base speed.

Not to mention, this gen has no setup time, makes Chansey arguably better than Blissey, made Parasect decent outside of Ubers, potentially crippled setup sweepers, etc.

Logic from previous generations is pretty much invalid.

Lets not forget the Kamis who are at 111 and the monkey's at 101.

Yea, always being short or having pokemon that are just a little faster sucks.

Again, it isn't good, but he wanted a set.

Yea. Only reason I gave him a Scarf was because of that really crappy base speed.

Most gens have some change in mentality. This gen is no different.

I'm guessing that's why the game's motto is "Start from a new beginning".

And I don't speak competitive pokemon terms. Could someone enlighten me on what speed tiers are?

All pokemon have a base speed. Most pokemon have number that end in 0 or 5 making ordering them easy. Recently we've gotten a good number of pokemon with really odd numbers that don't fall into any of the numbers we have know.

Did some random battles on pokemon online. One of them was against one of my friends and i was like, lol what. I won like a pro. I lost my last couple of matches. Sun teams are great with Mothra and Speedy Blaziken.

Donphan

Nature: Bold

Item: Leftovers

EVs: HP 252, DEF 252

Moves: Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, Knock Off, Bulldoze

Because being insane is fun.

Thank you Flame Dragon.

You see, just because something's not the absolute best, doesn't mean you should just trash it. I wasn't asking if a Bold Donphan was good for competitive gameplay, I was asking what the best moveset for a Donphan would be. You think I don't know Impish would be better? Sheesh... >.>

I have another SS question, although I just want to see what people think. I caught a Gastly and already planned out Gengar's moveset. Thoughts?

Nature: Timid

Shadow Ball

Thunderbolt

Sludge Bomb

Focus Blast

This is off the top of my head, so some of those moves Gengar might not be able to know. I think he can, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance!

Never give Gengar a physical move. It just isn't smart. Poison is a horrible type and your better of pretending Gengar doesn't even have that type so drop Sludge Bomb too.

As for subs, T-Bolt is a staple on Gengar. The last move is your choice but some of the more common moves for him to have are Hidden Power Fire/Ice (it's hard to get so shouldn't worry about it), Hypnosis, Destiny Bond, Pain split, Trick (if it's a Choice set), and Giga Drain/Energy Ball.

I forgot I put Thunder Punch. It was T-Bolt, I got them mixed up for some reason. I think that's the physical move, iirc, unless Shadow Ball or Focus Blast is also physical. I'll replace Sludge Bomb with Hypnosis or one of the Hidden Powers, if I can get my hands on them. Thanks for the help, Flame Dragon.

If this was 3rd gen then it would have been the other way around. T-Punch as special and Shadow Ball and Blast would have been physical. Luckly they fixed that.

Shadow Ball and Focus Blast are the bread and butter of Gengar's move set. It makes it so T-Tar can't just wall the hell out of him. Really, what other reason would their be for people using a move with an acc of only 70%?

Nice, just remember Hypnosis carries the risk of missing hitting only 60% of the time.
