Yu-Gi-Oh Battle Boards Games RPG

The Warden

Recommended Posts

~Welcome new player, to the world of Battle Board Games. An RPG using Yu-Gi-Oh monsters in an RPG format; the games take place on a special board called a 'Battle Board', each possessing a theme. New boards, skills, monsters are becoming available all the time. If you're new to this game, we have a very helpful Guide to learn the basics of this game. Well, what are you waiting for? Come on down to Gigabyte's Game Store, for tournaments and just having fun. The owner Griffon Gigabyte is very firendly.~

[spoiler=FAQ]

The rules of the game are in fact very simple to to learn. Here are some commonly asked questions that we're happy to answer.

Q: What IS a Battle Board?

A: A Battle Board is the field where the Battle Board Games are played. They all have differen sizes and fields. A simple board would be purely fields, such as Sogen and Wasteland, whilst others are more detailed, like those possessing boss monsters, they differ depending on theme.

Q: What are Fields?

A: They're the tiles that make up a board. Some serve as simple fields, such as Sogen, others serve as obstacles, such as Mountain, Umi and Fusion Gate. There are also Shift tiles, which warps a team from one Shift Tile to another. Normal fields provide boosts depending on the type of your team's monsters.

Q: Obstacles?

A: An obstacle, as the name suggests, is designed to stop your progress. Mountain not only gives a boost to certain monsters, but cannot be past except if your Team Leader has the 'Fly' ability. Umi is the same, except that the leader must have the 'Swim' ability. Fusion Gate cannot be passed except by Fusion and Synchro cards.

Q: How do games start?

A: Very good question, the computer decides where your teams start, such as on Ruined Heart, the computer would put Player 1 on A1 and Player 2 on A2. Then the computer places the random monster teams and items on the field as well and then the first turn commences.

Q: What are teams?

A: They're a player or computer controlled team on the field. A player has four monsters on their team, whilst wild monster teams are between one to four. A boss is usually single but some may have other monsters join their team. A Team acts as one tile, so they're not seperated on the board for easier play. You can seperate your monster team into four, three, or two seperate Teams, but this means that they are seperated and unable to support them in battle, depending on how they're seperated.

Q: Team Leaders?

A: The team leader is the main monster you choose when you're on a board. They grant the team a certain ability such as the ability to cross obstacles like Mountain or Umi.

Q: What are Abilities?

A: They're special powers that are used in the Battle Phase and they have a variety of effects depending. An example is the Black Magic Fire, which inflicts 8 damage to the targets HP. The White Magic 'Cure' can heal a target for 10 HP, useful if being used on a Simochi Tile (still being designed). Abilities are spread out into different slots, depending on Type, such as Warriors using Swordplay Abilities. They are only used in the Battle Phase.

Q: Leader Abilities?

A: A Leader Ability differs depending on which monster is your leader. A monster that can fly grants the 'Fly' ability to pass Mountain or travel on Rising Air Current; and the 'Swim' ability let's you cross Umi and Umi Ruuka. There are many different abilities that a monster can have, what are they? I have no clue.

Q: How do you play?

A: It's simple; each player's turn allows for one move and one attack. Players can move horizontally or vertically, provided there aren't any obstacles. A player can attack only once a turn, like movement, they can attack horizontally or vertically. If you attack, you initiate the Battle Phase. You can also skip your Battle Phase to defend instead. This also applies to the wild monsters and bosses on the board as well.

Q: Battle Phase?

A: The Battle Phase consists of the player's monster team fighting an opponent's or a wild monster team. The lowest levelled monster's attack first, then going up each time. The Battle Mode can be swapped to each team having their own attack turn each time instead. A Player can attempt to flee any battle except Boss Battles. This can be disabled in a game however.

Q: After the Battle Phase?

A: The Battle Phase is either decided by Fleeing, defeating the opposing Team or losing to them. No real ramifications occur is you flee except that you leave behind an item. Winning means your team obtains EXP and you gain BP. You may obtain special items like new Abilities or Leader Abilities and the monsters may want to join you. After the Battle your Team is fully healed. If you loss, it's game over. However, if it is only a single monster of your team, that monster becomes unusable unless you obtain an item that can revive it.

Q: How is damage calculated?

A: In battle, each monster possesses a HP and MP bar. If you're attacking a non-defending team, defence is ignored. When a monster attacks, it's ATK amount is reduced from the target's HP. If a defending team is attacked, if the attacking monster's ATK does not exceed the defending monster's DEF, no HP damage is taken.

Q: EXP?

A: Experience, it is gained by your monsters when a battle is one. The amount of experience one is equal to the combined level of the defeated monsters. Eg Vorse Raider is defeated, so each monster gains 4 EXP after the battle.

Q: Shift Tiles

A: A Shift Tile is a very special tile that can warp a team from the Shift Tile they're on to another active Shift tile. At the start of a game, all the Shift Tiles are considered inactive, they're activated when a team walks onto it for the first time. You cannot Shift to another tile if a team or wild monsters are standing on the corresponding tile.

Q: Wild Monsters?

A: What, you think it's only you on the board? Dream on mate, on maps there are wild monsters on the field. They're usually low leveled (like 1) and pose as minor inconveniances. If you do excellently in a battle, the monster's may be impressed and ask to join your team. If you accept, it will be added to your team storage for later use. Bosses are more dangerous however, and usually appear after something special has happened, like the Gate Guardian appearing after Sanga of the Thunder, Kazejin and Suijin are removed from the field. They have epic levels of HP, MP, ATK and DEF. If you defeat a boss (which is hard), they'll join you 100%. They move after each player has had their turn.

Q: What about Fusion, Synchro and Ritual Monsters?

A: Fusion is simple, as on some boards there are Fusion Tiles, which can create a Fusion Monster if you have the correct materials, that monster is not permanent and will vanish after the game is over. You could also simply buy or defeat the Fusion monster to obtain it. Fusion Monsters can move through Fusion Gates. Ritual Monsters are trickier, as there will be a ritual artifact on the field and the alter to that monster. To activate the alter you need to pick up the artifact and take it to the alter. There, you can either fight the Ritual as a Boss Monster in hopes of permanently obtaining it, or create a computer controlled creature that will attack other teams as a normally stated monster. Synchros are special attacks to be used in battle, the rules still apply to the summoning however. You can obtain Synchro Monsters by beating them or buying them.

Q: Are there any forms of currency?

A: Yes indeedy, they're called Battle Points (lol). You obtain them by beating wild monster teams or somehow find them on tiles. They're used to buy abilities for your monsters or to buy new monsters.

Q: What about Spells and Traps?

A: Traps are hidden in tiles, although rarely. An example is forced back, which negates any movement if you walk onto the tile. Traps are randomly placed in boards, so they can't be found in the same place all the time. Primarily, there are Equip Spells which appear as weapons on the field, and they increase the ATK or DEF of the equipped monster. Some grant special abilities and attacks as well. There aren't Normal, Quickplay, Field or Continuous Spells.

Q: Items? What're those?

A: Items are littered around maps, they can include BP, equipments, or possible spells and abilities if you're lucky. A Team can only hold up to 3 items at once, if a new items is found, it can be either left or swapped with a held item.

Q: What about the Monsters?

A: A monster's stats are: Level, HP, MP ATK and DEF. Some have abilities, which'll be explained later. Some monsters can evolve at certain levels. Tuner monster's have special attacks calle Synchro Strike, which tunes it to another team monster for one attack, then they seperate again.

Q: Am I ready to play?

A: Yes

[spoiler=Game Play]

2. Player 1 moves and/or attacks at the start of each turn, followed by each human player, then each monster team goes then the boss.

3. Each Player can move and attack once in a turn.

4. The Battle Phase ends either with either team Fleeing, Winning or Losing.

5. If a player locates an item on the field, it is held onto until it is uzsed, stolen or the team losses.

6. BP is awarded at the end of Battles depending on what may have occured. 10 is awarded for winning a fight.

[spoiler=Da Rulez]

OOC: Well, we have enough players as these current maps are 2 P maps anywho, so, now I guess.

IC: Griffon was in his games shop and was ecstatic. Even had finally finished the system for his new Battle Boards Game and was eagerly awaiting the applicants who've decided to come and test it. 'I can't believe this is happening. I'm going to make sure this game takes the world by storm, we're going to do better than Duke Devlin's Dungeon Dice. I might even be able to take this to Pegasus to see if he likes it' he said with a grin. He began polishing each of the tables that were to be played on.

OoC: Question, when you enter the Battle Phase, do you enter a separate Battle Phase for each piece, or do all of them enter the same? To be precise, can I attack with Dark Valkyria and Junk Synchron, and defend with Dark Ape and Thousand Eyes?

Another question, where exactly are we? In this "game store" or somewhere else?

Also, "Shift Test" and "Ruined Heart" are identical.

IC:

Isiah looked at the boy before him. The pieces he had collected were sure to be tough, but Isiah knew he could handle them. His Valkyria had fought with him many times before. "Well, Blue, I accept your challenge."

Griffon came over to a game in progress. 'One Way Through eh? Okay, I will act as the computer if you don't mind, now, I'll give you a brief run through, Isiah will be Payer 1, and Blue will be Player 2. Now, Player 1 will be starting on Square A1, and Player 2 will start on square E5. Now, there are 3 computer teams currently on the board, one consisting of a single Goblin Attack Force, one of a Relinquished, a Thousand Eyes Idol, a Petit Moth and a Volcanic Rat; and the final team is an Aqua Apirit, the Rock Spirit and Spirit of Flames. They are both set to neutral, so they won't attack or move' he explained. 'Also, there are 2 traps hidden on the board for spice, now, Player 1 will move first, then Player 2. Also, in the Battle Phase, it's all teams fighting it off, if they're all defeated, you loss. You have the option to flee, but, thay will be disabled in this game. Lowest starred goes first and good luck'.

Isiah smiled as the passage of shadows appeared on the field. "Sure, why not. I designate Dark Valkyria as my Team Leader." He placed the team on the A1 Sogen square, and nodded. "That'll do for now. Your move, Blue."

OoC: Current position: A1

OOC: I guess I forgot to mention, my bad Nitton, a team is a team, therefore, they're all on one tile at one time.

'Also, there are two items on the board. They're both Swords of Deep Seated, and they give a +5 ATK & DEF boost to the monster equipped with it. One is on point A2 and the other is on point E4 for easy gameplay. Monster Team 1 (GAF) is at D2, Monster Team 2 (R & TEI) is at B4 and the final Team is lovingly placed at C3'.

OOC: That is pamming, please do not repeat it, unless you feel like joining as well.

Griffon smirked. 'You can reform your team if you want, the more advanced players owuld seperate, I don't think you're quite ready yet, since now, you have four teams, only one of those teams can go into battle, they'd be sitting ducks for the stronger monsters. Also, as Shadow Specter is on tile E4, it has obtained the sword of Deep Seated, which grants it +5 ATK & DEF.'

MT 1: D2 - Goblin Attack Force

MT 2: B4 - Relinquished, Thousand Eyes Idol, Petit Moth, Volcanic Rat

MT 3: C3 - Aqua Spirit, The Rock Spirit, Spirit of Flames
