The "General" Section - Warning Policies.

RestLess-BoTics

Recommended Posts

I'm going to jump on the boat and say this system is far too harsh. It's true; this system is basically like saying "Blink at me' date=' and you're screwed."

It's too extreme to jump right up to 50% for even a minor offense, especially since posts really do get ignored for the most part during that period of mod-approval, essentially making a 50% Warn similar to a ban.

Making one Spammy post should not initiate the equivilant of a temporary ban on a user, Glass.

[/quote']

I received a 50% Warning yesterday for a "spam" post, and I went to bed around 12:00 (AM). When I woke up at like 6:30 (AM) and went on YCM, that's when I realized I had obtained the Warning. I could post perfectly fine, though, implying that the 50% Warning Level only takes away your ability to post for a certain amount of time, which is somewhere between zero minutes to six and a half hours.

I do believe these rules are a bit harsh, though. Especially if someone makes just an occasional "spam" post. I mean, Intentional Spamming, yes, but when it's just an attempt to be funny or something like a lot of Father Wolf's posts, I don't see why that can't be allowed.

Some of these rules make this place seem like a correctional facility rather than a forum where people are supposed to have fun.

That is exactly what happened to me too.

I don't even think my post should be considered spam, but whatever there's no use complaining about it.

The problem I had was that my post was made a day before these Rules were posted.

That's like making a rule that you can't poke a seal and then going and arresting someone that poked a seal a year ago.

Still, even if they were decreased to like 30% it'd be ok.

Somebody demote Glassberry nao, he sucks at being a mod. That's just my opinion, so don't hate.

On topic: Glass, 1 question, do past things get affected by new laws? I don't thinks so. So stop and revoke the warnings that you gave/lower them/whatever.

Guys calm down.

This is obviously a cry of Glass telling YCMaker ''dun demote moi, I maed rulez!1!''.

Then he'll warn people for 5 days, and get bored of it, and still come 5 minutes online every day, just like before.

Oh, if I get a warning for this post, this is communism. This isn't spam, as I'm posting my opinion about this warning system.

Ha, I'm pretty horrible at being mean, huh? [;

I'll be revoking the warnings I gave out a few hours ago, so don't panic. Oh, and I edited most of the warning policies, so feel free to post your opinion about them.

I don't want to offend you or bring any punishment crashing down upon myself' date=' but if you cannot handle general without resorting to such drastic measures as this, perhaps you should step down and a new, more capable, moderator should be appointed.

[/quote]

Don't worry. You're not. [:

Oh' date=' and something regarding #19. I think I know what you mean by it, but if we post a thread about one of our friends/relatives/etc. dying, shouldn't we be allowed to do that if we also raise a discussion like how you would react if that happened to you?[/quote]

There's a difference between real-life discussions (death of a family member) and an attention-seeking thread along the lines of, "I'm leaving this site. Then, I'll kill myself. Provide me with the proper sympathy and I'll change my mind to staying here."

Oh' date=' and #6, doesn't that kinda fall under #15? I mean, how would you whine to anyone exept staff for locking your thread or warning you? I know how you would though, I was just pointing out that it would be kinda hard to do so..

[/quote']

A great example of whining would be: "Demote that moderator, and let me take the position. Pleeease."

Universal Forum rules apply to account to moderation like that.

What he said is more like a guideline. There is no loophole.

Obviously.

And what's wrong with Glass wanting to be nice?

Again I will say it. Account Moderation like that, is left up to the individual Moderator.

And Frlf, doing it purposely for "lulz" and a 50% warning, is showing his immaturity and bullying Glass. That I will not stand for, and will Promptly Perma-Ban him.

Because anybody could make a double account and porn spam and they would get lol50%.

Having exact guidelines for warnings is stupid to begin with. =/

If someone is intentionally spamming, they should get a higher warning than someone who makes one spammish post.

The punishment shouldn't always be the same regardless of circumstances.

This whole system is just broken.

Above poster does not now what the word "guideline" means.

The only cases in which rigid policies such as these are necessary are the cases in which the moderation staff is too incompetent to exercise discretion properly.

[Rule #3] - Harassing and/or abusing others is forbidden.

>Any violation of this rule will result in a 30% warning that will expire in 2 weeks.

[Rule #4] - Flaming [inflammatory Speech] is forbidden.

>Any violation of this rule will result in a 20% warning that will expire in 2 weeks.

I'd suggest to increase the flaming policy to 30% and maybe higher' date=' depending on the circumstances and level of flaming. Flaming, aside from spamming, is one of the main problems in this section and if advertising gets you a 30%, flaming should at least be punished harsher.

Harassing, flaming and spamming should be more flexible, it depends on the degree and circumstances.

[Rule #15] - Staff have final say.

>Any violation of this rule will result in a 20% warning that will expire in 2 weeks.

[Rule #16] - Advertising on this website is forbidden.

>Any violation of this rule will result in a 30% warning that will expire in 2 weeks.

I would also decrease both of these to 10%. The "Staff have final say" point kind of relates to Rule 12: Always read and follow staff messages.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't get rid of the feeling that advertisment is not as bad as flaming so the difference between both policies doesn't make much sense. I say just remove the link and drop it at 10 or 20 max.

JG and anyone else who asked about Rule 19, there's posting a thread about a real life issue and asking for advice, which should engender some kind of discussion. Then there's "OMG I'm gonna kill myself nao, pity me pl0x!", which comes down to spamming and trolling.

That's exactly what people are arguing' date=' particularly in regards to Glassberry.

I must say, I like the new guidelines much better. You MIGHT deserve to stay as mod now;)

Major emphasis on "might".

The "Staff have final stay" Rule is lol when people like Bloodrun are Mod (hence my 60% warn from him, which has since been removed).

And Glassberry, you sure better use these as Guidelines and actually be online, otherwise my opinion on your stay. No point saying no offence, considering you see "I HATE YOUZ1!!!" as "I LOVE YOU GLASSY!!".
