Agreed. Gold was my first Poke game too. But Now I have my Quilava, Gyarados, Fearow, And Heracross (Soon to add Ho-oh and Dragonite) in HG, I haven't started my SS yet.

I haven't gotten around to buying SS/HG yet, but I plan to use a Chikorita and a Hoothoot for most of the game for nostalgia purposes. That's what I did in the original silver~

I just unlocked Extra today and already beat two of the spellcards. If I beat one more Extra level card, I'll unlock Spoiler mode. If I can beat it I'll unlock Hatate. :3
