SAT & ACT

Recommended Posts

Well, as you know, I live in Boston. For the most part, those on the eastern coast take the SAT's, those on the western take the ACT's.

So, I have the SAT's next week. I've been preparing for a long time.

So... discuss standardized tests, or discuss how I can prepare myself for test day.

I've been wanting to make a thread on this, but never got around to it.

I never like the SAT. Mainly because my strong point isn't writing and to me it feels like a good amount of the test is look for me to tell then difference between their and there and other crap like that. Also I hate how long the damn thing is.

And as luck would have it the day my friend invites me to go to the Museum of National History I had to take this.

As for how I did on it, on my first try I got 1690. The break down was Math 620, Reading 620, Writing 450. I took it a second time but that is still being graded.

I took ACTs in 7th grade. Got 99th percentile and national honors. 'Twas a happy day.

pics or it didn't happen

Agreed.

The ACTs is a test for getting into college and as such is made to test people who are going into college' date=' so their is no way you could do that good when you were only in 7th grade.

Gimme 10 minutes. I'll take a picture of the certificate.

EDIT: Phook, I can't find the camera cable, so I'll do it tomorrow.

My test run was pretty good. 760 in Math, and 1170 between Reading and Writing. So a total of 1930. I plan to get a 2000 first SAT try, so I don't have to take it again.

Damn that's good. I remember on my second PSAT I got something in the 1800s. If memory serves the Math and Readon were about the same with the writing being a lot higher.

I took the ACT: Did really well.

I took multiple SAT practice tests: Almost all near perfect scores.

My secret: Study a little everyday' date=' go outside, take a walk. Relax.

The ACT/SAT isn't made to be studied for.

Most people who are smart crumble because the SAT/ACT is "hard" unless you study.

Yea, going into either of them you need to have some idea what it's going to be like. Going in blind can be a bit overwhelming.

The Math section is actually quite a joke. With the slightest bit of studying' date=' I could easily hit an 800.

For some reason a couple of the math questions always trip me up. some times it is because I just don't get it, but I think it mostly comes down to be over or under thinking.

Another one of my problems is the time because no matter how good I am in a subject, or how much I may understand something, I really don't trust the answers I put down. This is only made worse when I finding something easy, so on the math section I find it much more annoying since I find most of the questions stupidly easy and I end up looking at some of the questions and think, this can't be it can it?

Also speaking of 800s this one kid in my school got one on, I think, the reading part of his SAT. Over all his score was like a 2140 or 2240 (can't remember which). A lot of the other kids in my school though got things like from 1300-1500.
