Anyway the Mayans didn't say the world would end, they said that water would fall from the sky and cleanse the Earth.

 

1. Mayans were ancient = stupid

2. Every space suit costs several million dollars. Making almost 7 billion space suits would be impossible.

 

On topic: yes the world WILL end but the human race won't be there to see that happening. Did you ever hear of our galaxy hitting Andromeda over 3 (sorry) billion years??

Obviously, the world is going to end when God decides to destroy us all. And obviously, God is still considered an omnibenevolent being whilst doing this.

 

The Mayans didn't explicitly state that the world was going to end. They ended their calendar on that day. That day, 12/21/2012 is a celestial lineup, which happens once in... a long time. These Mayans were obsessed with astronomy.

 

The assumption that the world is going to end on that day is a blatant and quite stupid assumption. Whose to say they didn't end their calendar on that day to signal a new era, or whose to say they didn't end their calender on that day because they were too lazy to go further?

1 billion is still just an estimate. We don't have enough knowledge to figure out precisly (sp?) when the sun will get that big. But it's safe to assume that, when 1 billion years passes, we'll have some kind of technology to either travel to a new place or set up some kind of anti-heat sheild.

I hope, the Sun is growing at an alarming rate, after 4.5 Billion years it's at 71% Hydrogen and 29% Helium.Undoubtedly the Sun will turn into a Dwarf Planet.Oh, and wasn't there something called the big freeze?

Celestial alignment was considered a big business by the Mayans because according to them it was the beginning of time. For them the dark rift in the Milky Way was Xibalba, the road to the underworld, also part of the Cosmic Tree and the birth canal of the main Mayan goddess who created everything.

So in 2012 the mother goddess will give birth to another important god which will start the New World Age (Age of the Aquarius).

 

That's a big point for astrologists and those who believe that the position of planets affects the mind!

But for non-astrologist/mystic people, I mean a lot of predictions fall on 2012, mostly religious ones. Since when do people worry about religious predictions?:/

 

I'm not saying that this is all impossible and non-existant but I'm not part of New Age or the Mayan religion so it just doesn't concern me.

 

Unorthodox Simplicity: At least someone posts here who knows about that stuff.

Ages are believed by some astrologers to affect mankind while other astrologers believe the ages correlate to the rise and fall of mighty civilizations and cultural tendencies. Aquarius traditionally "rules" electricity, computers, flight, democracy, freedom, humanitarianism, idealists, modernization, rebels and rebellion, mental diseases, nervous disorders, and astrology.

 

So, I would think 2012 is a good thing.

The frozen stuff is all carbon dioxide. I thought that was made clear. Everything else just really restates my point.

 

I still don't see why we are arguing over this stupid point. If it ends, we can't do anything about it. If it doesn't, yay, we get to live. Then we'll die a few decades later. The Mayans are dead. Why are we still pondering over their almost extinct calendar?

The closest thing we have to a complete wipe-out of Earth is in approx. 1 billion years.

 

And eventually the government will deal with overpopulation by killing the sick.

 

And we will slowly ween ourself off of fossil fuels. And stuff and stuff.

Why take everyone to heaven? I understand that he is omnibenevolent, but there are some real jerks out there who don't believe in him. Seriously, they deserve to go to hell. Maybe God was getting laid when he made that utterly stupid decision.
