Free will is an illusion, something that gives hope and meaning.

Humans have a hard time comprehending that their life is already predetermined.

For example, lets say you can see into the future.

The future says that you will make a life changing mistake.

Ultimately you will end up making the mistake because of the steps you've taken to try to avoid it.

Conclusion: You made the mistake because you foresaw the mistake.

I can probably fit in something about paradoxes and parallel universes right here but i'm sure this has already been covered.

I changed my opinion D:

The voices told me that your actions can be predetermined by almost infinite number of factors; Genetics, social context, etc.

At first I tough that was convincing, but after some deep reasoning I told them: "What if I just use dices or coins (or random.org) to take important decisions?".

They didn't replied D:

Now I'm confused...

(tl;dr: Strict determinism is not possible, but free will is not any better, lol.)

I'm neutral, bishes >:3

I went over that specific possibility earlier in the thread, I believe.

The weight and balance of the dice, the grain of the table on which they are cast, the weather conditions in the area in which they are cast, the muscle tension in your arm during the casting, etc. merely become more determining factors. It is not random.

Furthermore, even if there was a complete absence of information. Even if a die was truly random, this simply means that chance itself is another determining factor.

Life is like a Sat Nav. You're given a destination, but which route you take is up to you.

You don't get complete freedom because as you make some decisions it narrows down your later options: if you choose to jump infront of a bus, you won't have the ability to run a marathon the next day.

What happens isn't entirely up to you. Other people causing traffic congestions can cause you to be re-routed. If you get put into a different class to your girlfriend when you go back to school, you won't be able to copy each other's answers in Geography.

Over time your options get narrowed down but I don't think you'll ever have only 1 option in life, you'll always have some sort of choice.
