With so many anti-Defense cards flying around...

Recommended Posts

It looks like one of my most beloved deck types is becoming more and more useless. So many beatstick nowadays has some sort of defense-destroying, flipping, or piercing effects that it seems like defending with an actual defense monster, and therefore using a deck based around defending, is becoming more and more impossible.

Rock-Types and beefy defenders are losing their edge, though I suppose they do have a bit of support.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on the subject? I know that due to the fast pace of the Meta it isn't exactly viable anyways, but where do you think defenders and defense decks are headed?

They're becoming offensive.

I was going to comment on that, but it seemed a bit unnecessary. Anyways, I really just want to focus on the defense aspect, seeing as they had been based around it for such a long time, and it's pretty much what they're known for.

@Armadilloz: Those cards are good and all, but that's two cards which can be used in limited numbers, and which can just be taken out in battle, or whatever they don't negate anyways. They offer good defensive support, but not too many rocks are good in the attacking category, so they couldn't support these two well.

Rock-Types

They have Koaki'Meiru Guardian and Sandman.

At the rate we are going' date=' Rock-Types can effectivly negate anything.

[/quote']

They also have swarm and insane beatstick going. Megarock, Gigantes, Gaia Plate, etc; etc;

Other than Gaia Plate, I can't think of many Rock-Types other than the ones already listed that are "beatsticks" which are easily accessible. (That might just be because I've been missing from the forums and the YGO world for a while, though)

People just don't fear attacking face-downs like they used too.(probably because MoF and Cyber Jar are banned) I agree the defensive side of the game needs more support' date=' but we [i']really[/i] don't need to add another Gravity Bind to the game.

You can never have too many Gravity Binds.

*thinks*

Hey, remember that one duel puzzle in WC10 where your opponent had a Skill Drain and FOUR Gravity Binds out? i was all like OMG and then i won so i was all like LOL

Why do I have a feeling that, when I am speaking with you, you're not paying attention to what I say?

@Jord: Yeah, I saw that too. I like it. Only problem is... It wont stop "destroy Defense Position monster" effects.

They have the attacker.

Their defenses are high and I believe they are playable-though not really a meta.[/align]

But this thing isn't even their attacker.

Its mainly gaia plate because he's easier to summon.

And he cuts the stats (or is it just attack?) of whatever he fight in half.

Megarock only surpasses gaia plate in that he has higher atk (generally) and doesn't have an upkeep cost.

In order to kill Gaia Plate through battle, you'll need to have something with 5650 ATK or higher. Sure, Megarock doesn't have an upkeep, but you need to remove far more monsters to get to that high.

which is why I have kill spells. when you can't run something over, you have to flip it bounce it spin it etc. etc. (if I only had a few more, then it could have been a nice beat.)
