So I started playing Magic the Gathering again.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I started to play Magic the Gtahering again after a good 5 Years. A great load of fun it is too. All the new rules are baffling though lol. Things like Haste, Lifelink and other Rules I haven't even heard of. I stopped playing when my personal favorite card was a White monster known as Serra Angel. Does anyone else play MTG here? I would love some advice.

Well I started playing again with a pure White Deck. Mostly random cards with low Mana costs as well. I hear that a White & Green combo can be quite devestating.

In the new Standard Format, Green with anything is devastating.

I would like to learn how to play (Saturn already told me the basics of the game) but I don't really have the time.

Too bad. MTG sounds fun.

If you don't have the time or the money, playing online would be the best option.

J-Max, that card is only playable in Legacy if I am not mistaken. Not in Standard. =)

Well I have been playing a Homebrew version for the PSP known as Wagic so i'm guessing every card is usable.

Yeah, it's definitely not legal in Standard.

This link should help you with the legality of other cards:

http://www.magic-league.com/guide/formats.php

# Shards of Alara
# Conflux
# Alara Reborn
# Magic 2010

Are sets that are no longer legal in Standard.

It is. Problem is i've noticed a lot of near broken cards lol such as this one.

Can non monster Artifacts even be tapped?
That isn't broken in Magic. Really, things that you might view as broken in yugioh aren't close in magic. It's mostly due to the mana system.

I personally don't like having to edit my deck every time old packs cycle out. It just isn't isn't something I like. Not that it's THAT big a deal with most of my cards being new since I just started.

Any way, I've been playing for a few months and have like 6/7 deck.

Mono black (Vamp)
Mono red (goblin)
Mono green (elf, personal fav)
Green/Blue Token swarm (will be black if I get the right cards)
Green/White/Blue (Random, but tried giving it a defender theme)
Mono Blue Artifact (vs deck with like no changes)
Mono White Mini (vs. deck. going to combine with defender deck)

So yea, I love how much cheap things are in magic. A things of 120 cards (some of the cards being rare and good) only cost me $35, sadly it should have only cost $20, but meh, it sucks, but I can see something that good being sold for $35

I don't recall MTG being cheap, that is if your making a specific deck with a specific structure.
If your just playing for fun, then commons and uncommons with the random rares here and there isn't too bad in price.
Well in comparison to to yugioh it is. As I said, a deal of 120 (of of them already a 30 something card) being sold for $20 is simply amazing. Plus just comparing single cards sure that have some expensive ones, but a lot aren't that bad with most costing $5-$10

Well I've been out of the Yu-Gi-Oh picture for quite some time, so I'm rusty on their prices.

I've been working on my White Ally deck recently - and it's become a real beast (as only white weenie decks can).
Yea, weenie decks are great. The Elspeth deck ended up playing on the same level as my Vamps (they did win though) with the only change being the addition of Honor of the Pure. The fact that I draw one of the White +1/+1 cards in EVERY match did help them a bit.

I'm assuming it isn't pure white since Allies work best when multi color IMO.

It IS a pure white Ally deck - and it works VERY well. Hada Freeblade, Kazandu Blademaster, Ondu Cleric, Kabira Evangel, and Talus Paladin. They power up fast and use their protection to overrun the opponent. I need to put more Honor the Pure in the deck (it has none). I also have Gideon Jura in there - just in case. The support cards can protect, get rid of pesky artifacts.enchanements/creatures, and spit out tokens that are copies of allies.

Seems like a cool build.

It is - and I found a fun combo that ticked off my friend once.

I had Gideon Jura and a bunch of allies out on the field. He had about 10 monsters out and 6 life. I used the white card Sunscour (it destroys all creatures on the field). It normally costs a lot to play BUT you can remove 2 white cards in your hand from the game instead to pay for it. I did that and wiped the field clean THEN turned Gideon Jura into a monster and hit him directly for game.

It worked becasue Gideon wasn't a monster when I played the spell. He became a monster AFTER I played the spell.

At the moment I am running a Pure White Deck (Kind of random though) I main this card

1 Life for every White Spell played is rather Neat. Problem is my highest Monster is a 3/3 with the ability to Tap a monster with 1 White Mana. Are Artifact monstr worth it? I understand that they can be splashed into almost Any Deck as they are colorless.

You should use Soul Warden. It's 1 white for a 1/1 creature that gives you 1 life every time a creature comes into play - yours or the opponent's creatures. It's a better alternative to that artifact IMO.

And if you're running White with Life Gain, run this if you can:

But if you do, make sure you really focus on Life Gain.

Personally, I prefer running W/G Tokens. Mycoloth is sooo sweet to have during upkeep. :D besides, in that build you can run both Soul and Essence Warden, at least if you feel like keeping it casual.

A friend of mine has a deck just like that - and he DOES run that monster. He gains SO much life, it's ridiculous. He also likes to hide behind creatures that can block multiple attackers - and he gives them protection. SO annoying.

He's also got a Saproling deck that can swarm you in less than 5 rounds with over 20 creatures...
