Multiculturalism, For or Against?

Although I think that there are advantages to multiculturalism eg: understanding a new culture, different foods available, learning of other beliefs etc. The disadvantages that can arise from it outweigh the advantages, eg: disputes amongst rights, demands from the government that may impact on different cultures and racism.

Recently in Australia they are saying that muslims can't wear the face covering clothing (don't know what it's called), it's quite ridiculous to say "come to australia, you can keep your culture....except this...and this..." Right?

Catholic Church, Atheistic, a few monks, some jewish people, knew some Krishna's, islamic people etc. And you know what? We all got along JUST FINE. Na`Ohana, community family. You are my equal because you exist. Everything else was personality and it never conflicted.

there are alot of good aspects about multiculturalism, and i would support it..provided of course the country sticks with it. like with my eg, they're banning it cause they feel threatened as you can't see the persons face...cultures will go well with other cultures provided of course the country isn't trying to change any beliefs when they say that they are multicultural.

You seem to include in your definition of multiculturalism - and citing as cons of multiculturalism - the presence of ethnocentric legislation, i.e. the exact opposite of multiculturalism.

no i clearly stated that Australia is putting certain cultures above others, not me, i'm against it...as i've said about 2 times now, what i'm saying is that if you claim to be a multicultural society then don't start limiting peoples beliefs and culture and put others above it, in other words keeping everyone equal which is the definition of multiculturalism.

This isn't a point that can be disputed. You are explicitly listing Not Multiculturalism as a disadvantage of multiculturalism.

Our family makes it feel best to marry only the ones who have the same culture and comes from our country. Thus avoiding multiculturalism and avoiding changing old traditional ways.

There should be an analogue of Godwin's Law that makes anyone who defends their utterly nonsensical and false statements as irrefutable for being their "opinion" autolose in the same way that comparing an opponent to Hitler makes you autolose.

My purpose on YCM has always been to inform idiots of their idiocy. Simply tossing down a ban teaches people nothing other than "Don't argue with Crab Helmet", which, given that I am not infallible and have had problems with YCM being a flock of sheep before, is not what I want. I just had something on this in my Antro class. Short version of what I ended with when we were done was, that while you can take multiculturalism to far (looking the other way because abuse might be the norm for a culture) as a whole people should accept other cultures and try to understand them.

I think that to, which is why I don't understand why Australia is planning to ban the thing that covers Muslims face, forget what it is called, so they're basically saying "Come to Australia, you can keep your culture.....except this.....and this..." Just thought it was strange for a proclaimed multicultural society to ban certain aspects of "accepted" cultures.
