SephirothKirby
So, I started a club at my school. It is slightly above babysitting, but they are all new or bad and they understand me to be the best in the area. Tomorrow we're meeting. I'm thinking we'll start with archetypes vs random piles, but I do not know where to progress from there. Card Advantage is kind of advanced, I don't want to start with that. Good card vs Bad Card is kind of subjective, and almost ties into card advantage. It's not like this is a particularly skilled game anyway, but anyone want to help me with my lesson plan? I am struggling to view the game from the perspective of someone bad.
burnpsy
I learned how to run 3 different TCGs properly by ramming head-first into it with some guidance. Just try explaining what makes or breaks consistency. As long as they're already past the "LOL, ignore teh b4nlist" phase, that should be enough. Tronta
throw them in. gadgets and anti-meta. it's a good way to show advantage. once they learn advantage they can judge card value easier and thus make better decks.
exactly... So many people I know want to make decks, and then I say "you can spend $30 on a good Machina Gadgets deck...", and then I hear the response "I don't have that money! now I'ma go buy a new generic shooter game." Legend Zero
I'd say show them a couple of meta decks and WHY they are meta. Hands on beat down from Sabers and BWs....nothing like it.
-Berserker-
The first lesson tell them to forget every move they saw in the anime. Give each one a guide of those that come with starter decks, or a DS with a copy of a recent YGO game, and make them read the tutorial, but would need to be paid for the second option, so that's a big no... Then tell them that Neo Spacians and Winged Kuriboh are not part of a E-Hero deck...

Lonk
Give them the 2-Pronged Attack decreases card advantage by 2, and Pot of Greed increases card advantage by 1. That should give your students a firm understanding of card advantage (and say most effects that are good tend to have a card advantage gain of 0 or more.) also, discuss why situational cards should not normally be used in Decks.
