ITT and in all other topics: responding with pictures makes you cool.

7tools is meh, regardless. i can't speak for the meta but i'd probably rather have bribe, and before that a trapstun or decree. sided 7tools makes sense.

in any case, in the situation you illustrate, you imagine that you could use 7tools to respond where you couldn't use the topic card. in other words, you have traps set for a turn but have not, for some reason, played a samurai. in which case, you're doing it wrong and have already lost before we even get to this point.
Trap Stun is probably the best choice right now, but seven tools isn't bad and it's seen place in several YCS decks.

let's say your opponent wins the die roll and sets 3 + summons a monster and passes. You can make a big push (which isn't rare for samurais) with the cards in your hand. In this case, you'd want to be patient and wait for the moment where your opponent can't stop your push and you'd win the game. Your opponent usually can't win in two turns. And sometimes it wouldn't be wise to summon a Samurai before your push because you might need it to actually make your push.

also, you can't compare Barrier to this card. Barrier is to secure your field after you make your setup. The card we need for Sams should allow us to make a push without fear of backrows.

ITT: YCM scrubs don't know that Dark Bribe is s***.

Also saying that using memes doesn't make you cool by using a meme yourself is ... not cool. :o
when did i use a meme to argue that plugging memes isn't cool?

and dark bribe is just about as bad as any other counter trap. -1 advantage for spell speed 3 negation. it's generally better than most because it has a large amount of things that it can negate. 7tools, warning and solemn don't cost advantage, but 7tools is pretty limited in scope. the other two are just really good. bribe is one of the better -1 counter traps.

@byakk, sams are based on maintaining and generating large amounts of field presence, no? i can understand holding back for conservative play, but if your entire push is based on one of your opponent's backrows not being a divine warning, then i think you've lost anyway.
as for the apparently large amount of 7tools, i was not aware of this. i refuse to take part in this meta because dark hole and robert are retarded. so i've been pretty out of the loop.

@inconsistent, the card is mediocre. there are better options. mbaas outclasses it. this was established over the course of the topic. you clearly aren't paying attention or you wouldn't make sweeping generalizations that apply to no one.

I honestly have no idea how good the card is; I've been out of the meta for awhile and don't know what stupid cards Konami has banned or unbanned or the latest ridiculously OP card the meta will center around. I do know that this is a broad stopper counter trap entirely unfitting for an archetype Konami is creating because they're running out of ideas, and that this game is slowly filling up with crap like this.

Basically, Konami can't keep anything consistent anymore, not even archetypical focuses.

In this format, this card isn't that good.

Decree stops most threats that Samurai's have trouble with, namely Bottomless, Warning, Torrential to stop the initial summon, etc. Not to mention, Solemn and mirror force.

The majority of problem cards for samurai involve hitting their big push. Decree turns most of the problems off.

Using Decree also helps the deck, as it can turn off ~1/4(as estimated by DGz) of an opponent's deck. Stopping Trap Stun-based builds(which are currently favoured) means that the Samurai Player has the ability to push for more damage as they are left with (on average) fewer live cards.

The only problem with Decree is when facing other Decree Builds, or facing decks that are anti-trap stun(which is usually Decree based Builds), as they should run Veiler, books(what deck doesn't) and E-con to get under the Trap Stun/Decree.

However, these problems are overshadowed by the pros of Decree.

Not running more than 4 traps(3 Decree, 1 Solemn(imo a staple)) allows for more room in a deck that is getting more support. This allows greater versatility.

I'd side this card at best, if that.

5 is closer to 0 than it is to "everyone"

furthermore, the alfred one doesn't seem to say it's good, he seems to be saying there is better support. an individual card rating cannot really be inferred from only that information. the azuh one only implies that it's good, and the poster retracted it immediately afterward, and the rest of the posts are by boonies whose opinions are generally ignored.

rule of thumb: ignore all posts by people with less than 6 stars, barring some special exceptions.

edit: i don't actually know anyone on that list except azuh. you guys' names kind of blur together, and a lot of you don't stand out enough. i've also been gone for a while and don't pay attention to much. and i'm forgetful.
so if i knocked someone unfairly there, mah bad.

If this card was Infernity Barrier, it'd be broken. This is more like Destruction Jammer/Stardust in Trap form for Samurai. Ergo, not broken.

I wouldn't bother with an archetype specific one-shot Stardust. I'd be more likely to use Stardust itself. Or as mentioned, My Body as a Shield. Body can be used from the hand and not need to be set already. Trap Stun/Royal Decree have blanket negation.

spouting a random generalization that you don't have any evidence to support is kind of silly. after that you seem to just say that everyone is retarded, which is true. and yes, i follow postcount.

post count is roughly equivalent to experience. people like crabs rub off a little tcg theory on newbies as they post more. they get exposed to more knowledge and theory and post several decks that get chewed up and several that don't. eventually they get some semblance of a worthwhile opinion. this stage lasts for a few months, maybe a year, then they grow apathetic and bitter because they have to deal with so many newbies. then they, like crabs, like jd, like myself, start posting and caring less, and the individual posts become extremely sarcastic and bitter. these are, frankly, the best players here. that isn't to say i'm one of the most knowledgeable, as i've been removed from this meta and am incredibly apathetic about it until i get a banlist i can at least tolerate. however, i'm still capable of understanding some tcg theory and posting something intelligent, albeit rude.

apparently i was mistaken and 7tools is somewhat prolific. i don't really agree with running it, and would probably run trap stun and decree years before it. in a dedicated deck, this is probably better overall than 7tools.

but whatever.

point is, in my experience, the nameless, faceless blurs that make up the posters under 6 stars are rather unworthy of my time as a whole. some stand out, like that werewolf guy, or the rebel. although the rebel is terrible and i hate him. he still makes more of an impression than you.

and let's look at you for a moment. your screen name is a vuvuzela joke? how topical. so my first impression is "lolsilikememesarentihilarious?". after that, i notice your join date is 2 years ago. so you're an oldfag. but you just changed your name. i immediately think less of you. next i look at your ava and quote and see that you have a fetish for pokemon. your sig confirms this, and i notice you're corporal. i don't relaly know corporal, i just see hte name every now and then. so i have a little bit more respect since i recognize the name, but less because you have a hardon for what appears to be hypno. it's first gen, which is cool, but it's silly, which isn't.

and NOW i look at your post content:

"I honestly have no idea how good the card is; I've been out of the meta for awhile and don't know what stupid cards Konami has banned or unbanned or the latest ridiculously OP card the meta will center around. "

wow. so what part of my stereotype are you /not/ perpetuating? a memethumper with nothing relevant or useful to contribute to the conversation, spouting an opinion one way and then immediately retracting it in the face of opposition. you have thoroughly failed to make your case, as you, less than a 6 star, have little to nothing to contribute and an idiotic opinion when you do. congrats, you've proven my point.

Random genralisations without logic, much like the one you made, are indeed silly. Essentially everyone in this forum is dumb. And when you have six stars that isn't going to change because you posted more. Many six stars are perceived to be a cut above the rest, but that usually only goes for their grammatical coherency.

Here's the problem. You aren't equating lurkers into this. You aren't equating those that never learn(which there seem to be many of). You aren't equating those that already knew this. This just seems like what should ideally happen to a new member ignorant of the game. Some things rub off on them, but most people just make the same mistake over and over.
point is, in my experience, the nameless, faceless blurs that make up the posters under 6 stars are rather unworthy of my time as a whole. some stand out, like that werewolf guy, or the rebel. although the rebel is terrible and i hate him. he still makes more of an impression than you.
Werewolfjedi? If that's your example then you're a horrible judge of character. If you aren't referencing him then let's go on to discover why you are anyways!
and let's look at you for a moment. your screen name is a vuvuzela joke? how topical. so my first impression is "lolsilikememesarentihilarious?".
Right away we can see that you're a first conclusion judge a book by a small portion of the cover's picture kind of guy. I made a card set sometime around the olympics centered around vuvuzelas. Awhile after that, when YCMaker sold out and the forum became what it is, an actually decent member (Polaris) changed his name to Vuvuzela of Anguish, one of my card names. I decided I may as well create common ground between our names so people can know how bro we are. And I didn't want to be known as Corporal anymore(recent mod hate because I backed OMGAKITTY and made that one fic parodying the YCM staff that got a bit too popular), so it seemed like a good name to take on.

As for the meme part of it, using a now dead meme for reasons other than lolilikememes kind of shows your first impression the door. And I neither go for or embrace memes as a whole. I only really find people that take extremes and spam common memes everywhere or instantly hate for having a semblance of a meme annoying.
after that, i notice your join date is 2 years ago. so you're an oldfag. but you just changed your name. i immediately think less of you. next i look at your ava and quote and see that you have a fetish for pokemon. your sig confirms this, and i notice you're corporal. i don't relaly know corporal, i just see hte name every now and then. so i have a little bit more respect since i recognize the name, but less because you have a hardon for what appears to be hypno. it's first gen, which is cool, but it's silly, which isn't.
As said before the name change was the proper decision to make. And thinking less about me for changing my name is…well, really dumb.
I had a reason to do it, but even if I was just changing it for the sake of a cooler name it shouldn't matter. Losing respect for something like that reflects more about what ridiculous ideals you value. And yes, I am an "oldfag", a bit older than this account's join date actually. And this factors into what I was saying before. As of now I'm still a 5 star, but I've observed this forum for a long time. Probably longer than a six star. If I was a noob when I joined(lolno) then somehow someone who joined a year ago or something and spammed to hell should know more about the game than me.

>Fetish
>Hardon
HURR DURR FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THAT YOU LIKE TO f*** POTS WHEN NO ONE IS AROUND AND WANT LINK INSIDE OF YOU. ITS IN YOUR AVATAR SO MY MESSED UP MIND, IN A SAD EFFORT TO TURN YOUR SIG AND AVATAR AGAINST YOU WHEN THERES NOTHING ACTUALLY MOCKABLE IN THEM, WILL EQUATE THEM TO SEXUAL DESIRES.
Honestly, the sig and avvy are pretty old for me anyways. It's just that I don't give enough of a crap to change it and only a moron would equate having two normal pics of Hypno as some sort of fetish.

And no, you shouldn't be giving me points for having my name tossed around. Popularity on this forum does not mean much. Stop thinking like that.

Finally you move on to content.

And that quote is the only decent thing that's come out of your mou-- oh wait
wow. so what part of my stereotype are you /not/ perpetuating? a memethumper
All of it, you flopping retard. For instance, absolutely no memes were in the post. And before you try mentioning my name or anything of the sort, we have been over it. Calling me a memehumper for a reference when I bet you've made loads more than I have is painfully hypocritical.
with nothing relevant or useful to contribute to the conversation
Nice job quote clipping. I get to my point right after it.
spouting an opinion one way and then immediately retracting it in the face of opposition.
I never did that. It sounded like I called the card OP but I was making a comment about Konami's card making habits as of late, at least in regard to a few of their cards.
you have thoroughly failed to make your case, as you, less than a 6 star, have little to nothing to contribute and an idiotic opinion when you do. congrats, you've proven my point.
This is the end of your idiocy, and only serves as a wrap up after you think you've shown me who's the boss. Since all I can do is laugh at this closing line, allow me to end my post with a little comment of my own. A summary if you will, in case I lost you somewhere along the way.

Your "rule of thumb" was just an arbitrary means of member recognition and wild assumptions based on how many someone has hit "Add Reply". It was tailored to what you value, which isn't content. When you said you were about to move on to assessing the content of my post all you did was rail upon me further with inaccurate labels. You apparently don't remember me, definitely not the fact that I don't look away and run from these kind of ignorant posts. But I remember you. You're decent at the game, kind of stupid in some regards, and at times a little bit of a dick. But I never remembered you being an elitist douche on a pretense that isn't anything to be proud of in the least.

alright, let's take it point by point.

on my initial premise of post count being at least vaguely correlated to experience, i feel that this is more justifiable and supportable than the inverse. so yes, there are lurkers, there are idiots who don't learn, but what about the people who do learn? s***, i was a boonie at this when i first got here, but by the time i got to a few hundred or thousand posts, i knew quite a bit more.

werewolfjedi never posts, but i haven't had a problem with him so far. he's seemed pretty knowledgable. am i incorrect in assuming that? the last time i made this generalization, someone brought him up as an example for why my generalization was wrong.

the 'judging a book by its cover' logic typically applies to judging people by their appearances. however, you weren't born with a given avatar and sig. what you choose to define yourself online can often give insight into a person.

and fine, i'll concede the point on memes. but in my experience, people who join with names like 'ilikemudkipz' are either trolls or idiots. or both. so forgive my stereotyping on that note, at least.

next, you lose respect when you change your name because you confuse the hell out of me. half the players on this forum change their name every 4 seconds and it annoys me.

" If I was a noob when I joined(lolno) then somehow someone who joined a year ago or something and spammed to hell should know more about the game than me."

is this impossible? you speak as though a person who joins at a later date but is more active couldn't know more.

oh, and don't get so focused on the use of a few sexual metaphors to communicate a point.

and on to post content:
first, your initial post was interpreted as a sign that you viewed the card as game breaking. you can understand the confusion of myself and others on this point.
from there a lot of my argument falls off of a false premise. so i rescind that point.

so let's back off from the ad hominem to discuss the actual point in contention. i clearly can't use you as an example, so why don't i grab a few more from the topic?

we have a lot of 5 and 6 stars on both sides of it...
then inconsistentdecks being an idiot....
wiithepeople is trying to compare it to infernity barrier. emphasis on trying.

my generalization is just that. obviously, and as i said, there will be some exceptions. i go by the rule because a lot of people say stupid s***, and in my experience it's more often the newer people.

Well, it looks like you leaned away from insulting me so I'll do the same and try to put something meaningful out there.

Let's ignore for a moment people that were good at this game before joining. Because while they themselves serve to break the rule, there's an inherent flaw I touched upon that I think I'll emphasize.

Your logic is that the more posts they make the longer they have exposure to a subject and the more they learn. The problem is that posts do not necessarily run parallel with exposure. Here is why:

-You can read but not post. Lurkers tend to be/become generally well-informed, depending on how often they lurk.
-Inversely, you can post without reading. A duelist becoming 1/5000th closer to being a pro by saying "cool card i guess" is silly.
-Posts aren't necessarily being made in this forum. I've seen plenty of +5000K posters that frequent other areas come in and spout some novice crap.
-It takes some people more posts to get something across or to learn something.

And honestly, most of the six stars that are decent at the game were at lower ranks. Just get to know the person and value their opinion based off of what knowledge they've come to show. Reevaluate them every few months or so and you should be fine.
