He could be used in a genex synchro deck to get out thermo genex - since flame swordsman is a fire he would give thermo genex an attack boost. Instant fusion is very relevant now because you can synchro so easily with it. I use it to bring out E Hero Mariner and either tribute him for a monarch/malicious edge and then miracle fusion with mariner in the yard.
