DARKPLANT RISING
So a clasmate said, when I was talking about some anime, that I was Otaku-ish. I explained that I haven't fallen in love with any 2-D characters, I had other hobbies (EX. writing), and that I only watched anime for fun. Still my classmate objected, saying that I was still Otaku-ish because I like Evangelion. I facepalmed and proceeded to insist that Asuka isn't my girlfriend, but he would never listen. Then, I wondered: what is an "otaku"? My classmate's opinion is that anyone who really likes anime is. My opinion is that anyone who falls in love with anime characters and has no intention in the 3-D world is. What is your definition?
Yang Xiao-Long
"Someone who is a fan of anime," as defined by my high school's Anime Club. Vague, I know -.-
TheComposer
Basically, as my high school club says, a fan of anime, manga, and mostly anything Japanese.
Catterjune
Fan of anime. You should note there is a distinction between being a fan of a certain anime and being a fan of anime, in general.
~/Coolio Prime\~
An otaku is usually an eccentric and derogatory term for anime fandom. I consider people that only watch animu and want to move to Japan for ambiguous reasons as otakus.
Marisa Kirisame-ze
I consider it as a fan of anime WITH NO BARRIERS. As in, they like all genres, go out of their way to find certain anime DVDs and collectors items, stay up watching anime for most of their life, etc etc. I do not consider myself an Otaku for being "just a fan". I believe Otakus take it much farther than that.
Death Metal
Otaku is just a step below weeaboo. Only difference is that an Otaku isn't consumed by Japanese culture. This is only my opinion though.

Dark
Uhm... my school doesn't have any anime-lovers (and if we do, it's a shame, since they have to be so secretive about it), so no one has ever used the word "Otaku". ...or "weeaboo". Tentacruel
An Otaku is an anime nerd, not an anime fan. It's almost always used as a derogatory term in Japan, but here, people have warped the meaning. Anyway, I'm proud to say that I am not an Otaku, nor a Weaboo. Great Unclean One: VK
Weaboo: A person, usually white from what I've seen in my anime club, that believes Japan is heaven and a place of understanding, awesome sauce, and culture. Sadly, I tried to explain that Japan is a land filled with rape, high prices, bigotry, and awesome, but HIGHLY expensive stuff along with hatred of anime fans in certain places. I also tried to tell them that some places didn't like foreigners. They shrugged it off, called my jealous that I was Vietnamese and not Japanese. I was held back by the president and my other Warhammer 40k players to stop me from going apeshit crazy. They also pepper in Japanese phrases in their conversations. Example: Me: Oi, Jess, you going to Tekkocon? Jess: Yeah, I'm going to get a kawaii kimono. Me: Hold up, you speak japanese? Jess: Yeah, it's my second langauge. Me: Oh, who did you learn it from? Jess: Anime. Me: That's all? No profesuers or teachers? Jess: Nope. It's much easier to learn it from anime. Teaches you commonly used phrases. Me: Okay, then, but what about more advanced phrases? Such as where can I go to see so and so's house? Jess: Oh, trust me. You'd never need that. Japanese people are very kind and understanding. Me: Bull. Have you even heard of that bill going on in Tokyo? The governer wanted to extended it to gays as well. How the f*** is that understanding? Jess: Your lying, yaoi is widely accepted in Japan just like us otakus. Me: Once again, bull. Otakus are usually avoided from what I've heard. Jess: *sighs* Oh never mind, your too much like most other Americans. Your all just a bunch of baka. After that, she left and I got pissed off. Otaku: A term used to insult a person who is usually seen as a fat obcessive pedophile who is the scum of the world and never leaves the house unless for much needed items and other things. People are now trying to give it a nicer image and trying to "reclaim" the word and using it as a word to describe a fan of anime, manga, figma, dollfies (I WANT NAO! DO WANT A FEMALE SPETZNAZ ONE!), and the such. I define it as 3 classes. Closet: A person who hides the fact they like anime and teh such. (kirino) Regular: A person who is not obcessive and is still got all his or her marbles. Most commonly seen, but that's just my experiences. (Comrade Danny Choo) Obcessive: A person who has lost all control on his or her ability to stay with reaility and is bat s*** insane. Usually seen lugging around a hug pillow with a chick with huge boobs or a loli. Could be seen marrying inanimate objects or characters. This is the usual image of a otaku. Ergo this guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26mWFuOWwuU Though, I'm not sure if he's serious.
Ieyasu Tokugawa
In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku refers to a fan of any particular theme, topic, or hobby. Common uses are anime otaku (a fan of anime), cosplay otaku and manga otaku (a fan of Japanese graphic novels), pasokon otaku (personal computer geeks), gēmu otaku (playing video games), and wota (pronounced 'ota', previously referred to as "idol otaku") that are extreme fans of idols, heavily promoted singing girls. There are also tetsudō otaku or denshamania (railfans) or gunji otaku (military geeks). You're daily dose of wikipedia. Basically, otaku doesn't mean anime fan, it means crazy fan of a specific thing.

Any sentence involving the word kawaii. Any sentence involving the word baka. Any sentence said by any anime character, especially over-exagerated phrases.
