Expelsword
What are some situations where you would want to go second? (Not OTK)
Catterjune
There is absolutely zero situation in which I would ever want to go second, including in an OTK deck.
-Lightray Daedalus-
If my hand only contain Cydra and the ones like it...(And Im not going agaisnt a FTK of course)
White Void
First turn is important in all games that use turns as the player who goes first essentially creates the tempo for the game. There is no advantage to going second that I can immediately think of which is why there is always a handicap attached to going first.
Gallabas
Possibly if the only monster you have in your hand is Sirocco, but never else.
riicky83
Some times its best to go second if you have a combo like a level 5 you can special summon (especially if your opponent has a monster for the requirement) and a level 3 tuner, Jack Atlas combo anyone?. But that is providing your opponent isn't running a F/OTK deck.
.Gideon.
No one would want to go second First: you decide to go first/second BEFORE you begin the duel (before drawing your starting hand) Second: even if you have Cydra/sirocco, still you can go first and skip your turn The one who goes first will always have advantage over the second player, and this is stupid they should change this to something like, the who goes first draws 5 cards instead of
burnpsy
they should change this to something like, the who goes first draws 5 cards instead of 6
They could always take one out of PKMN's rulebook - no spells on turn 1 if you go first. riicky83
That rule is from Duel Masters when you start first you don't draw a card so you start with 5.
evilfusion
I can almost never think of a time when you'd WANT to go second. Going first lets you do your setup unhindered, and Set cards to hinder their setup.

Manjoume Thunder
Going first is supposed to be an advantage.
No. Both players should start on equal terms.
Deathcore
I used to always choose to go second, but recently I go first since it helps set up my strategy. First > Second.

Just Crouton
I go first because turn 1 is when I have Fortress with Gearframe equipped/ Fortress and a Gadget.
Deathcore
oh lol
I know. It was when I only played with friends or my sister. (I still have to go second when I play my sister, she always gets pissy when I try to go first.) My friends and I settle it with a coin flip, whoever wins gets to pick if they want to go first or second. Kinda like the World Championship games (or football). Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
Going second is useful for decks that predominantly run high-ATK monsters, or for somebody who plans to attack a lot and doesn't have a lot of "defensive" monsters. And certains hands you will likely draw based on your deck's build can determine whether or not to go second. You can pull off a much better move with a hand of Trunade, Reborn, Cyber Dragon, etc. etc. if you are second than if you were first. Also, whoever goes first is more likely to lose a monster before they can attack.
Sephiroth_The_Legend
going first is basically standard really. lets you set yourself up and often win from it... i like kids that let me go first....
DARKPLANT RISING
Since you can't see your hand before you choose according to the rules no one follows unless they're localizing, I always choose first.

Super Yugi Go
Going first basically gives you a +1 card hand advantage throughout half the duel.
Canadian
Having the ability to throwdown facedowns before your opponent can do anything wins games. This can also be said about field control (look at Shien for example). In the times where you can drop your hand and win, it's almost necessary to go first in order to get that extra push on your opponent.
CNo.101 S.H. Death Knight
I just really go by the flip or RPS, but preferably i'd rather go second and let my opponent see their tempo and situation so i can corrupt their tempo with mine (of course it depend on the deck i use that have their first or second turn standard)
