Grunt Issun
A strange thing I noticed while looking through the amendments a few days ago (Were studying this part of history in Social Studies around now) and I noticed somthing that actually made me laugh on the inside Vauge description: Amendment 15: Blacks get the right to vote Amendment 19: Women get the right to vote It actually suprises me that in such a racist country (Although this is hundereds of years ago, so what do I know?) Blacks got the right to vote before women did! Discuss this, along with Racism and Sexism

Frunk
I'm not an American, but it's hardly surprising that Blacks got the vote before Women, nor does it make me think any less of America.

Icy
I don't get it either, and I feel bad for women and blacks at the time. If this should ever happen again, the entire world would lose their well, a not appropriate word. And you forgot the technical part, Black Men got to vote before all Women did. It's not funny, it's more ";-; ugh, eh not happening now" kind of thing.
Wahrheit
Women were always viewed as inferior and classically men were the breadwinners of the family, whether they liked it or not. Social norms required certain behavior and it was far more appropriate for more widespread male voting than to consider females whatsoever. Smear
In Australia, Men - 1901. Women - 1902. Indigenous - 1962 As you can see, Australia was an extremely racist country. :L

Frunk
In Australia, Men - 1901. Women - 1902. Indigenous - 1962 As you can see, Australia was an extremely racist country. :L
It's nowhere near as simple as that. The indigenous populations of Australia were illiterate and not interested in mixing with the European settlers. That didn't change until the mid-50s, after which, progress was swift (compared to other countries) to recognise their wishes and rights.
Tentacruel
Here, as none of you are smart enough to understand the law at the time, I'll edumacate you. Back then, men were viewed as the head of a household. Their vote essentially represented the whole family's. A husband and wife were two halves of a whole, so in that culture, there was no reason for women to vote, because their vote would be the same. However, women started campaigning for rights, and they got them. They showed the will to be able to have their own opinion, and they got it. I don't see the point of bitching about some crap that happened a long time ago. When you fix your car, do you complain about how it ran before it was fixed? Mehmani
You do realize that Abraham Lincoln still thought that blacks were lower than whites and an inferior species? He freed slaves from the south but still thought that blacks were ignorant. Black soldiers in the Union army were paid less and treated terribly. AsterikcAde
Face it, the so-called "founding fathers" of America are nothing but imperialistic racist-sexist bigot pigs from England that wanted to control the world. You call colonizing a country and bringing in another race of people for labor that BUILT the country from the ground up and killed most of the indigenous people is glorious? Man, are we f***ed up or what?
Î’yakuya
Actually, blacks did get the rights to vote, but Jim Crow and lynching and the KKK and others sought to stop blacks from registering. Women officially got the right to register to vote. And it really, it doesn't matter that the blacks topped before women did.
Darth Revan of the Sith
1. Abraham Lincoln was a great president I couldn't care less what he thought... He abolished slavery thats all I care about... 2. The founding fathers of America were the greatest geniuses and masterminds... They helped found america and found a place to put the Ancient Mysteries and give the Free Masons a foot hold in founding the "New Jerusalem"... 3. Whether it was "Racism" or "Sexism" who cares... The point is they have their rights now... People were racist back then and if you lived during that time i can damn well guarantee you would feel the same way they did... Legend Zero
Face it, without slavery America probably wouldn't have been able to survive through the Industrial Revolution. The South's cotton (which was picked by slaves) was what fueled Northern factories to produce clothing, which was exported. Yeah, racism is a bad thing. Ok, slavery is morally wrong. Fine, thinking that different races/sexes are inferior is stupid. However, hindsight is 20/20. And it doesn't matter, because weather you like it or not.... BehindTheMask
There is a perfectly reasonable explanation: We couldn't invent the technology so women could vote in the kitchen until the 20's. Simping For Hina
What about African American Women. They had both racism and sexism. The black men only got the rights to vote, until the 19th Amendment allowing women of all races to vote...not the native Americans. And segregation was present until the Civil Rights Movements. The KKK still exists today.
