Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 1: Dark Shimmer, I am Eric Uchiha

He was good at dueling…always was. That’s why he joined the organization in the first place. Its motto: Change the world, everything begins with a small step. He was questioning whether he had made the right choice. Leaving his family for-what was it again? The fame? The power? The money?

The man in the black cloak knocked a senile old man down, having just finished another duel. The rogue duelist scanned the fellow’s deck, full of junk cards, not unlike all the other duelists his boss ordered him to defeat. Tossing away the “trash cards”, or so the group had called them, he rode into the black on his duel runner, craving a greater challenge.

Bright in the morning the next day, Eric Uchiha, an orphaned 16-year-old, strolled down to the local market, buying a bottle of iced tea as he did every other day. His employment was rather inconsistent, for he took any job he could find. He wasn’t the smartest kid in his class back when he was at Duel Academy, at the bottom of the heap actually. In other people's eyes, Eric wasn’t strong, gifted, or kind. In fact, there wasn’t anyone who even ventured to form a friendship, much less a bond with him. But there was one thing he took seriously: dueling. It had always been his dream to become a turbo duelist, riding down the lane, the wind rustling through his silky, black hair. He was so confident, in fact, of his abilities that he accepted any duel proposed to him. Unfortunately, this would prove to be his downfall…

Eric was halfway done with his bottle when his landlord, Mark Glenston, passed by him. Glenston disliked Eric as much as anyone else, which wasn’t surprising. But he was different. This man didn’t avoid him or give him cold stares like the others did. In fact, he constantly badgered him about his behavior, his rent, the works…but Eric enjoyed that. He even considered him to perhaps be a friend, no, like a father. As they met each others' eyes, they immediately flared up with anger.

“Where’s my rent, Eric!?” yelled Glenston.

“You’ll get it when you need it, old man!” replied Eric.

“You youngsters never show any respect to your elders. No wonder nobody likes you,” said Glenston coolly as he flicked his graying hair.

“Hmph! We’ll see who gets the last laugh,” Eric shot back.

“I’ll kick you out if I don’t get my money in ten days!”

Eric brushed past him and the two went their separate ways. While strolling through the park with a dark look, Eric noticed a child crying on a bench. He tried to forget about helping the kid, but couldn’t help himself. He walked over, took the kid by the hand, and bought him a vanilla ice-cream cone. It proved to be a suitable balm as the child stopped crying instantaneously.

“What’s your name?” inquired Eric.

“I’m Hitaru. And you are?”

“Leaving," he replied as he started to walk away. "Go back to your mom, kid.”

“I can’t,” muttered the boy, staring somberly at the ground.

“What do you mean you can’t?”

“She’s been captured by the Dark Chasers.”

“The Dark Chasers?” asked Eric, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, they’re this gang that goes around and steals people’s rare cards after they beat them in a duel,” Hitaru explained.

“A duel gang, huh?”

“You’ve gotta help me!” he pleaded, his face flooded with tears.

Eric looked closely at him, seeing things he didn't notice at first glance. The boy's clothes were all torn, his hair was unkempt, and his hands were gray with dirt. This kid's been toughing it out by himself all this time? Eric asked himself. Finally, he made his decision.

“Though I couldn't care less about you," he began, "but I never refuse a challenge! Meet me here tonight, I’m gonna be ready to take those bastards down.”

"Great!" the child shouted in glee. "I'll be here!"

The only problem is, he didn’t know what he would do. Walking to a nearby fast food restaurant, where his interview would take place, Eric questioned the child's request. Something sounds fishy, he thought. Sure I could beat them but what if they take my cards, especially my favorite, Lunar Knight? I can't ditch the kid either, since he needs his mom. Either way, I made a promise and I intend to keep it.

At 12 o’clock sharp, Hitaru arrived.

“Ready mister?”

“The name’s Eric, not mister. Got it?”

“Whatever you say, mister,” giggled the boy as he skipped along the road.

Eric snarled to the side and continued following the kid. Finally, they arrived at a small warehouse. He could see that the lights were on and people were obviously inside. He peeked through the window and caught a glimpse of a large man wearing a black leather jacket drinking with the rest of his gang. Despicable, thought Eric. These people are just a bunch of low-life scum.

As he was forming a plan, Eric suddenly felt a push on his back. Without warning, Eric fell inside the building, everyone staring at him angrily.

“I got you another one, boss,” Hitaru said as he casually entered the building.

“Good job, kid. Keep this up, and I just might make you my right-hand man,” laughed the giant.

“What is this?” asked a puzzled Eric.

“You’ve been tricked, dumb-ass. I lured you here so we can rob you of that rare card we heard you had,” smirked Hitaru.

"What?!" exclaimed Eric, shocked by this betrayal.

He had been betrayed before. There had been several instances where kids bigger and stronger than him have tricked him into letting them see his cards. After handing them, the bullies would run away laughing, knowing that Eric wouldn't have the courage to confront them. At other times, kids just played cruel jokes on him just because he was too weak to defend himself. However, this felt worse than all of those other times. This brat, a brat he had solemnly believed in and tried to help, had used him. Forming his hands into fists, Eric burned with rage.

"Wanna just hand those cards over, or do we need to take them from you?" asked the masculine leader.

“I’m not giving in without a fight!” screamed Eric. "If you want my cards, you'll have to duel me for them!"

"What a chump!" chuckled a drunk woman. "Why should Boss duel you if we could just take your cards by force?"

The man waved the lady off.

“You're a feisty little runt, aren't you?" smiled the boss, revealing a set of crooked teeth. "Fine, I'll duel you. but let me introduce myself. My name is Hammer, as in the one that’s gonna nail you down so hard, you’ll never see the morning light!”

“Bring it on,” said Eric boldly.

Eric was led into a rusty duel arena, like one he saw in his history textbooks, where he was forcefully pushed into the blue side.

“You should’ve run away when you had the chance. Now, you’re gonna pay with your cards!”

“Duel!” both said simultaneously.

“I’ll start things off,” Hammer said arrogantly, “I summon Iron Knuckler in attack mode!"

A fighter equipped with metal pads materialized onto the field, holding its fist up in a boxing style.

[spoiler=Iron Knuckler]Level 3

EARTH/Warrior

ATK-1600 DEF-1200

When this card attacks, you can Special Summon an “Iron” monster from your hand.

"Next, I play the Continuous Spell-Iron Pressure!"

[spoiler=Iron Pressure]Each time an “Iron” monster is Special Summoned, deal 600 points of damage to your opponent.

"I’ll leave you with a card face down and a turn end!”

“My turn!” Eric said as he drew a card. “I think you’re the one who’s gonna regret this. I summon Moon Samurai in attack mode!"

From a ball of light came a samurai, dressed in white armor, brandishing its sword.

[spoiler=Moon Samurai]Level 4

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-1000 DEF-1600

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can discard one card from your hand to increase its ATK by 800.

"By its effect, I discard a card to have Moon Samurai gain 800 ATK! Moon Samurai, attack Iron Knuckler!”

Moon Samurai charged at Iron Knuckler, who threw a punch that was skillfully avoided, and slashed it in half.

“Grr..,” grunted Hammer. (4000/3800)

“Turn end.”

“My turn!” vented Eric's opponent. “I activate the Spell card Iron Cycle!"

[spoiler=Iron Cycle]Discard one “Iron” monster to Special Summon one from the Graveyard.

"I discard this card in my hand to bring back my angry buddy. Revive, Iron Knuckler!"

The warrior rose was dragged out from a dark hole in the ground by chains that shot out from Hammer's card.

"Since an "Iron" monster was Special Summoned, you now lose 600 Life Points from Iron Pressure!"

A spiked chain shot out of Hammer's face up card and flew through Eric's head. Eric flinched in surprise. (3400/3800)

"Now, I summon Iron Gloves in attack mode!"

As its name suggested, a pair of gauntlets appeared beside Iron Knuckler.

[spoiler=Iron Gloves]Level 2

EARTH/Machine

ATK-0 DEF-1000

This card can only be summoned when there is a Warrior monster on your field. Once per turn, you can equip or unequip this card to a monster. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK.

"Then, I equip Iron Gloves to my Iron Knuckler to increase its ATK by 500!"

The gloves flew around the room and attached to the boxer's arms.

"Iron Knuckler, attack Moon Samurai!”

Iron Knuckler charged at Moon Samurai, who blocked with his katana, only to have it shattered. The fighter's iron fist easily pierced through the swordsman's chest. As his monster shattered, Eric scowled. (3100/3800)

“Since Iron Knuckler attacked, its effect lets me Special Summon Iron Pirate in attack mode, causing you to take another 600 points of damage."

When the chain appeared this time, Eric stood still, unimpressed with his opponent's strategy. (2500/3800)

A bandit-like man wearing an iron mask jumped forward from a blue portal that formed behind Hammer.

[spoiler=Iron Pirate]Level 2

EARTH/Warrior

ATK-1000 DEF-900

When this card deals damage to your opponent, gain Life Points equal to twice the damage.

"You're open! Iron Pirate, direct attack!”

Iron Pirate stabbed Eric in the gut with a machete and jumped back carrying a sack of treasure.

“Aaaah!” yelped Eric. (1500/3800)

"And since you took damage, I gain twice the amount, which is 2000!" shouted Hammer, savoring the moment as his gang cheered. (1500/5800)

“Turn end.”

“My turn!” Eric said as he gritted his teeth. “I summon Tuner monster Lunar Soul!"

A bright ball of light flashed onto the field, slowing opening its crystal eyes.

[spoiler=Lunar Soul]Level 2

LIGHT/Psychic

ATK-0 DEF-0

When this card is summoned, you can play a Trap card from your hand.

"Since I summoned it, I can play a Trap card directly from my hand! I activate Spirit Resurrection!"

[spoiler=Spirit Resurrection]Special Summon a level 4 or lower Light monster from your Graveyard.

"With this, I can summon a Light monster from my Graveyard! Come back, Moon Samurai!"

Through a crack in the ground, the warrior crawled out, breathing heavily.

"I'm tuning my level 4 Moonlight Samurai with my level 2 Lunar Soul. The shining moon guides all to greatness. Glisten brightly in your destiny! Synchro Summon! Sparkle, Lunar Knight!"

The two monsters formed into two floating spheres of energy and combined into one, creating a massive explosion of radiance. Emerging from the light was a gleaming knight, dressed in pure gold armor. It slowly descended, almost as if it was an angel from above.

[spoiler=Lunar Knight]1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuners

Level 6

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-1800 DEF-1400

This card can attack until your opponent controls no monsters. This card gains 100 ATK for each monster in your Graveyard.

“Ha! Are you stupid?" laughed Hammer and the rest of the gang. "You summon a weak Synchro monster with only 2000 ATK? What a joke!”

“Don’t be too sure," grinned Eric confidently. "That card I discarded earlier was the Trap card Late Offering."

[spoiler=Late Offering]If this card is in your Graveyard, you can remove it from play to send 2 monsters from your hand to your Graveyard.

"I can remove it from my Graveyard to send 2 monsters from my hand there. And I just so happen to have 2," said Eric casually as he waved two cards from his hand and slid them into his Graveyard. "Now it has a total ATK of 2200!"

A dense, yellow aura surrounded the fighter, boosting its ATK power.

"Lunar Knight, attack Iron Knuckler, Shining Lance!”

The shining knight stepped back, aiming its weapon at Hammer's monster. Shimmering brightly, it charged forward, striking the boxer in the torso. (1500/5700)

“My Iron Gloves protect it from being destroyed!” yelled the muscular man through clenched teeth.

“Too bad, because my knight can attack until you have nothing left! Attack Iron Knuckler again! Shining Lance!"

Once again, Iron Knuckler was struck in the chest. This time, however, it howled in pain and exploded. (1500/5100)

"Now go for Iron Pirate!" commanded Eric with a prideful expression.

Continuing its assault, the knight turned to its right and thrust its lance in the pirate's gut. Iron Pirate screamed and shattered into small pieces. (1500/3900)

"I set 1 card face down! Turn end!”

“You’ll pay for that!” threatened Hammer. “My turn! I activate the Trap card Monster Drainer!"

[spoiler=Monster Drainer]Discard any number of cards from your hand and draw 2 cards for each monster you discard.

"This card lets me draw 2 cards for each monster I discard from my hand. I discard 1 monster!" he announced, gritting his teeth. However, his expression changed immediately after he drew his cards. "Heh! You’re in for it now! I play the Spell card Magical Calling!"

[spoiler=Magical Calling]Pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from your deck.

"Through this effect, I pay 1000 of my Life Points to bring out a monster from my deck! I summon Iron Twins!"

A red fog surrounded Hammer, draining his Life Points. As they did so, a card flew out from his deck and appeared on the field. A duo of menacing robots emerged, staring evilly into Eric's eyes. (1500/3900)

[spoiler=Iron Twins]Level 4

EARTH/Warrior

ATK-1800 DEF-600

You can tribute this card to Special Summon 2 Iron Twin Tokens. (Iron Twin Token: Level 2/ EARTH/Warrior/ATK-900 DEF-300).

"Also, you take 600 from Iron Pressure!”

“I activate Damage Reverse!" responded Eric, waving his arm to his right.

Just as the swift chains were about to strike Eric, a clear barrier enshrouded him, reflecting the chains toward Hammer. (1500/2500)

[spoiler=Damage Reverse]All effect damage you would take this turn is dealt to your opponent instead.

“I swear I will kill you for this! No matter! I sacrifice Iron Twins to summon 2 Iron Twin Tokens!"

The scraps and bolts of the robots disengaged and reformed into two smaller beings. Again, the sharp chains shot forward and back, piercing through Hammer's stomach. (1500/1900)

"I then sacrifice the tokens to tribute summon Iron Hammerer!"

As the robots disappeared in two columns of light, a hideously muscular warrior covered in iron plates stepped through a gargantuan portal that formed behind its master.

[spoiler=Iron Hammerer]Iron Hammerer

Level 7

EARTH/Warrior

ATK-3000 DEF-2800

When this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Trap cards. If this card attacks a defense position monster, deal piercing damage.

"Iron Hammerer, attack Lunar Knight! Colossal Slam!”

Iron Hammerer lifted its humongous hammer and crushed Lunar Knight. Eric covered his face with his duel disk to shield himself from the flying dust and smoke, shocked and angered that his favorite monster had been annihilated. (700/1900)

“Turn end. Heheheh!” snickered the Dark Chaser.

“My turn!” shouted Eric, still beaming with confidence. “I will defeat you. And your demise all starts with this one card. I activate the Quick Spell Time Revolution."

[spoiler=Time Revolution]Special Summon up to 3 monsters from your Graveyard. This turn, you cannot summon any more monsters or attack.

"Through this card's effect, three monsters are Special Summoned from my Graveyard, at the cost of not being able to summon or attack this turn. Return, Moon Samurai, Moonlight Boxer, and Flash Gunner Luna!"

[spoiler=Moonlight Boxer]Level 3

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-1700 DEF-800

Once per duel, you can Special Summon a monster this card destroyed to your side of the field.

[spoiler=Flash Gunner Luna]Level 3

LIGHT/Spellcaster

ATK-1300 DEF-200

You can tribute 1 monster to deal damage to your opponent equal to half the monster's original ATK.

A gigantic clock tower appeared between the two duelists. Slowly, the hands started moving counterclockwise. As they gained in speed, Moon Samurai, joined by a fighter in thin leather shorts and an armored female holding a futuristic laser gun, fell from the clock, which soon vanished into thin air.

"It is true that you have the strongest monster on the field," stated Eric, "but that doesn't make you the winner. You see, Luna lets me tribute monsters and give you damage equal to half that monster's ATK. Do the math! I tribute my 3 monsters to deal you a grand total of 2000 points of damage!”

“What!? Impossible!” screeched Hammer in shock.

One by one, Eric's monsters formed into glowing bullets, which the gunner used to blast dense lasers at Hammer. Finally, it turned into a bullet itself. Falling smoothly into the gun, it fired a stream of golden energy and struck him in the head. Following that, the pistol shattered. (700/0)

“Dueling takes more than just rare cards,” lectured Eric. “You need to be in sync with them. Know their hearts as they know yours.”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” screamed Hammer in humiliation.

The field cleared as the whole gang gazed at their leader, lost in the pain of defeat. Eric started to leave when suddenly, a man punched him. He landed on the floor, blood rolling down the side of his mouth. He stared at them angrily. This was the notorious Dark Chasers group after all. They would never take defeat lightly…(to be continued)

Okay, since no one has commented on my first chapter, I guess maybe the second will do the trick.

[spoiler=Chapter 2]

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 2: Mysterious Flame Duelist, Friend or Foe?

The man in the black cloak gazed deeply at the bright, full moon. Its shine was compelling, almost as if it were pulling him in, showing him the light glimmering in the darkness, like his mentor once was. He was young at the time, still living with his parents. His teacher taught him the basics of dueling, every trick of it. His deck was like the moon, confident and shining until the very last moment. But every now and then, there is an eclipse, eliminating the light in the night sky. It just so happened that that event took place at a lunar eclipse. The man shuddered just thinking about it and returned to his duel runner with a cheeseburger in his hand. He carefully unwrapped the paper covering and took a bite; he had never liked fast food. The best burger he had ever tasted was the one made by his mom-he broke off the thought. Lately, he had been thinking of his family a lot. Although he knew that his parents were deceased, there was something nostalgic in the air, something that reminded him of home. The criminal closed his eyes, trying to prevent himself from going down memory lane. He finished off the burger and drove into the darkness of the night.

Erick stood up. He glanced into the faces of each and every member of the Dark Chasers. Each grimy face had a wicked smile, the kind of smile he hated the most.

“What’s the big deal?” asked Eric. “I beat you so you better let me go!”

“Why not stay a while?” asked a skinny teen. “That way, we can all have some fun with you.”

Eric glanced sharply at the boy, disgusted at almost everything he saw. The young man had dark brown hair, gelled and combed back. Dark, malicious eyes stood out from his dirty face, covered in crumbs and zits. He wore an old, black undershirt and torn jeans, signifying that he accepted himself as a lower class citizen of Truesdale Town.

Every town was pretty much the same. Connected by large highways, each city included a large metropolitan area, small suburbs, and a neighboring rural territory. These areas, separated by boundary lines, each have a similar social hierarchy. Residing in the urban region are wealthy businessmen and famous duelists. The city, which is usually located in the center, is where most large companies are found. Surrounding the city is the suburban land of gangsters and poor folk, often referred to as the Devil's Ring. This name accurately describes the intensity of crime and danger in those parts. People living in the suburb are extremely poor and must rely on strength in numbers to survive. In fact, it is so corrupt that anyone with even a slight chance of a better future will avoid it. Finally, on the outskirts of each territory, are farms and ranches, occupied by middle class people. Most can find labor raising crops and attain food through annual yields. Because this life seems tedious to most people, individuals will either strive to work for a successful company or enter the pro leagues. Though life was difficult on farms, this lifestyle was considered to be in a higher class than that in the suburbs. Eric, without money or support, is left with no choice but live as a pauper.

“I beat your leader already, so f*** off!" screamed Eric angrily. "There’s no point in dueling all of you. You all know what the outcome will be.”

“Let’s get him,” commanded the thin teenager.

At that, Eric ran past the door, sprinting as far away from the Dark Chasers as possible. Breathing heavily, he slid into an alley and peeked outside. Seeing that they weren't chasing him any longer, Eric fell to the ground and sighed of relief. These guys are the real deal, he thought. He didn’t know if he could take them all. Of course he couldn’t. He had never won a single fight in his life. In kindergarten, he used to always get his cards stolen by his peers. They knew he was too weak to fight back, and so, bullies frequently picked on him. Despite that, one particular student came before him and returned all of his stolen cards one day. Even now, he didn’t know who that kid was, for he moved away the next year. The only clue he had was his ace card: a fiery lion.

Suddenly, Eric heard something in the distance. He cupped his ears to hear more clearly. The sound grew louder. He felt a small breeze. He then realized what it was: the engine of a duel runner! He quickly peeked out the passageway and caught a glimpse of a Dark Chaser. He felt the rush of wind that blew by him as the vehicle flew by. They were after him after all, thought a troubled Eric. Thoroughly contemplating on what action he should take, he took one secret path after another to return to his tiny apartment safely. Deciding that he had had enough excitement for one day, Eric lay down on his bed. He took in the fact that he was home, in his soft bed, and felt into a gentle sleep.

Eric awoke to a loud banging the next day at noon. Feeling groggy and lethargic, Eric opened the door and found a tall teenager about his age standing at the doorway. He had long and straight black hair with a unique spike in the front. His build was quite muscular and he wore a fancy red blazer.

“I hear you do odd jobs,” said the person. “I have a special job for you.”

“I feel a bit tired right now, can you come back tomorrow?” Eric said, rubbing his eyes.

“No, I need your assistance immediately. I heard a rumor that a high rank official of the Dark Chasers was headed in the direction of this city.”

Were they really going through that much trouble just because of one loss? Eric asked himself.

“You want me to find their base? What are you, a cop?”

“That’s exactly what I came here for," answered the confident youth. "And no, I’m not a cop. I just happen to be looking for...........a certain possession of mine.”

“That kind of thing is too dangerous for me," replied Eric. "Please leave."

I know exactly where their base is, he thought. I could beat him and show those guys some authority after all.

The teen looked suspiciously at Eric. “Very well. Sorry to disturb you,” said the boy.

The stranger closed the door. After another hour of sleep, Eric got dressed in his silver jacket and strapped on his duel disk. His was special. It was custom made by his father, who passed away five years ago. It was created with intricate designs that resembled the moon and had a special energy source, one which Eric was clueless about. Every time he dueled, he could almost feel the connection between his cards and his duel disk, as if they were symbiotic. Eric threw on a pair of jeans, hurriedly put on his black sneakers, and dashed out the door. He headed through the secret passageways in case they were still looking for him. That was when he realized what the stranger was thinking. Swarms of Dark Chasers covered practically every square foot of the city. That guy knew something was up and wanted to save the city. Heroic and rich, thought Eric. Just the type of person that people would look up to. Doesn’t anyone act normal nowadays? He put on his hood to hide his face and walked past the guards.

By the time he reached the market, his body was quivering frantically with fear. Thinking he would be safe inside the local, Eric entered. He eyed a deal on iced tea: 2 for 1. Even though it wasn’t part of his schedule, he couldn’t help but take up the offer, it being for a limited time and all. As he paid at the counter, he took off his hood, sure that no one was watching him. The cashier turned around and his eyes widened. He looked directly into a familiar face, dark with dirt. Leaving the tea behind, Eric ran out the store and sprinted as far away as he could, the image of the boy's cruel smile clear in his mind.

He could hear the engine of the duel runners. They were gaining on him, he just knew it. In a desperate attempt to escape, Eric charged through a dark alley, only to crash into a dead end. He turned around and stared in sheer terror at an army of Dark Chasers.

The gang members surrounded him one by one. Without warning, they all jumped at him. Fist after flying fist, Eric was pounded on and bruised like an apple that fell from a table a couple dozen times. When Eric was near the brink of collapsing, the gang stopped hitting him. He looked up weakly and saw a dark figure in the back. He was large. It wasn’t the muscle large but the other one, the fat large.

“I see you defeated one of my gang leaders. Well, done," praised the corpulent man. "Not many can. However, I will now teach you the true meaning of pain. Get up and duel you son of a b****!”

Eric struggled to stand up. Every inch of his body stung. Both eyes black and blood flowing from both corners of his mouth, he made an effort to turn on his duel disk.

Suddenly, he saw a glass beer bottle flying at him. Finally submitting to death, Eric closed his eyes. This is the end, he thought.

Seconds passed. He didn’t feel a thing. A faint sound of glass shattering could be heard from a distance. He slowly opened his eyes and marveled at a spectacle. The stranger he had met earlier stood before him, his hand dripping with blood. He had broken the bottle before it hit him. For a second, Eric worshiped this man.

“You’re in no condition to duel," he said. "Let me handle this. You’ve done well to get to this point.”

“Who are you?” asked Eric curiously.

“Who am I? I am the inextinguishable flame called justice.”

“I don’t care who you are, but you will do as a victim of Captain Earthquake,” interrupted the fleshy fellow.

“Bring it on, rock head,” challenged the stranger with a look of fearlessness in his eyes.

“Duel!” both said simultaneously.

“Wimps first,” joked Earthquake.

“Good call,” replied the young man, unmoved by his opponent's insult. “I summon the Tuner monster Red Tinker in defense mode."

A humongous being equipped with shards of rock and armed with a gigantic sword emerged from behind the Dark Chaser captain and stomped loudly, yelling out a battle cry.

"Colossal Rock Giant, attack Red Tinker with Pounding Fury!”

Colossal Rock giant clasped its hands together, raised it in the sky, and slammed down, crushing Red Tinker. (2300/4000)

"When it's destroyed," said Garry, unaffected by the amount of damage he had just taken, "look at the top card of your deck."

“The top card of my deck is Gravi Smasher," obeyed Earthquake, turning the card over for him to see.

If this card destroys a monster in battle, you can destroy one Spell or Trap card on the field.

"Since you have a monster, you take 500 points of damage." (2300/3500)

"I set 1 card face down. Turn end!”

“My turn,” yelled the stranger. “I activate the Trap card Surrounding Fire!"

[spoiler=Surrounding Fire]Activate this card during your Standby Phase. Your opponent cannot activate any effects during your Battle Phase.

"I summon Cinder Runner in attack mode!"

[spoiler=Cinder Runner]Level 1

FIRE/Beast

ATK-0 DEF-0

This card can attack your opponent directly. Each time this monster attacks, it gains 500 ATK. If it deals 0 damage to your opponent, they lose 1000 Life Points.

"Cinder Runner, direct attack! Scorching Charge!”

Cinder Runner sped at Earthquake and tackled him. A large conflagration erupted around the area, draining away his Life Points. (2300/2500)

“Turn end.”

“You will suffer for your insolence! My turn!” shouted Earthquake, “I summon Gravi Smasher in attack mode!"

From underground, a stone gorilla pulled itself to the surface and roared menacingly.

"Then, I activate my Trap card, Earth Collapse!"

[spoiler=Earth Collapse]At the End Phase of each turn, destroy all monsters with less than 2000 ATK.

"But I'm not done just yet! I equip Gravi Smasher with the Equip Spell Rock Blaster!"

[spoiler=Rock Blaster]Equip this to a Rock monster. It gains 500 ATK every time it attacks.

A pair of cannons grew out of the ape's back, pointing dangerously at the stranger.

“Gravi Smasher, attack Cinder Runner!”

“I activate my Quick Spell, Burst into Flames!" responded his opponent almost immediately.

[spoiler=Burst Into Flames]Decrease the attacking monster's ATK by 800. You do not take any battle damage this turn. If the attacking monster is not destroyed in battle, you can draw 1 card.

"With this, your monster loses 800 ATK and I take no battle damage. But if your monster survives, I can draw."

Gravi Smasher caught on fire and blasted Cinder Runner, only to miss and fall from exhaustion. The stranger drew a card.

“Turn end.”

Both Cinder Runner and Gravi Smasher fell into the Earth.

“My turn,” said the young man boldly. “I summon Guardian of Flames in attack mode!"

"Come back to me, Red Tinker and Cinder Runner! Cinder Runner, direct attack!"

The hamster burst with incredible speed at Earthquake, relieving him of more Life Points. (2300/1500)

"I tune my level 1 Cinder Runner and level 3 Guardian of Flames with my level 2 Red Tinker. Searing flames engulf the world! Be born from the smoldering fire! Synchro Summon! Roar, Leoferno!"

A ferocious lion emerged from a ball of fire. Striding forward with its flaming golden mane, the beast roared threateningly, engulfing the field with fire.

“That’s the monster!” exclaimed Eric.

“Now, I activate the Continuous Spell Kurohouka!"

[spoiler=Kurohouka]All Fire attribute monsters on the field also become Dark attribute monsters and gain 200 ATK and DEF.

"Additionally, I activate the Spell card Prodigy of Fire!"

[spoiler=Prodigy of Fire]This card is treated as a monster and a spell (Warrior type/Fire/Level 4/ATK 1700/DEF 1200). If this card is destroyed as a monster, deal 500 points of damage to your opponent. If this card is destroyed as a Spell, discard 1 card from your opponent's hand.

"Turn end. And since Earth Collapse destroys Prodigy of Fire as a monster, you take 500 points of damage!”

The warrior screamed in pain as it fell pitifully into the ground. However, before it was destroyed, it threw its sword at Earth, striking him in the chest. (2300/1000)

“I swear I’ll finish you this turn, brat! My turn!” ravaged Earthquake, “I activate 3 of the Equip Spell, Gravel Power!"

[spoiler=Gravel Power]Equip this card only on a Rock monster. It gains 1000 ATK.

"These are all going to my Colossal Rock Giant. With 6000 ATK, there’s no way I can lose! Colossal Rock Giant, attack Leoferno!”

“I activate Fire Wall!" announced Garry spontaneously.

[spoiler=Fire Wall]If a Fire attribute monster is selected as the target of a card that destroys a monster or about to be destroyed in battle, halve all battle damage. No monsters can be destroyed this turn.

As Earthquake's monster advanced, a wall of flames rose from the ground. It blasted through the shield with ease and continued its attack. The fiery creature cried as it was struck by the giant's enormous fist.(600/1000)

“Grrr! Turn end!” growled the fat giant.

“My turn,” smiled the stranger, “And my last by the looks of it. I summon the Tuner monster Ticking Time Bomb."

FIRE/Pyro

ATK-0 DEF-0

This card can be Special Summoned if there is a Fire attribute monster on your side of the field. As long as this card remains on the field, all Fire attribute monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF.

"Everything is set for your loss. Ticking Time Bomb, attack Colossal Rock Giant!”

"Ha! You're so hopeless that you would rather kill yourself than letting me kill you? Fine, but I win either way!" chucked the Dark Chaser.

Ticking Time Bomb jumped at the behemoth monster and blew itself up along with all the Spell and Trap cards on Earthquake’s field.

"What's this?!" he asked in confusion. "Why are my Equip Spells gone?! What did you do?!"

"When Ticking Time Bomb attacks and is destroyed in battle, I take no damage and all of your Spell and Trap cards are destroyed!" smiled the proud stranger.

"Leoferno, attack Colossal Rock Giant!”

Leoferno burst in flames and blasted through the giant. Crumbling into small rocks, the once mighty warrior was reduced to rubble. (600/900)

“When Leoferno destroys a monster whose original ATK was greater than his, you take 1000 points of damage.”

"No f***ing way!" cried Earthquake in disbelief.

As he knelt to the ground, Leoferno released a large wave of flames from its mouth, burning everything in its path. (600/0)

The holograms of all cards and destroyed surroundings vanished. With a snap of his fingers, the stranger summoned a group of uniformed soldiers. One soldier arrested the Dark Chaser captain as the gang ran away in fear. The group chased after the members, leaving only the two behind. The stranger stared at a bloody Eric. Both stood watching each other without saying a word…(to be continued)

Woot! First comment! Thank you, Clause. In celebration, here's chapter 3.

[spoiler=Chapter 3]

Yu-Gi-Oh! D. T.

Chapter 3: Man of the Sea, Overcome the Dread

The man in the dark cloak sat in a drive thru sipping on a bottle of Coke. Why he drank such an unhealthy drink, he had no idea. Somehow, the cold sweetness of the soft drink calmed his spirit. He stared intently at a nearby tree, fascinated by its natural beauty. Everything about it was elegant. Its leaves were smooth and lush. Its fruits were ripe and colorful. Even its trunk was intriguing, standing erect in order to support the other parts. The Dark Chaser remembered a tree similar to this one at his family's home years ago. As a child, he had had a pleasant time accompanying his father to water and sing lullabies to the trees in hopes that they will grow more quickly. A smile spread across his face as he reminisced about his past. That smile quickly turned into a frown when he suddenly received a call from his boss, the leader of the Dark Chasers. He pressed the screen on his ebony duel runner to accept the call.

“General," said a deep, muffled voice, "there’s a duelist I’m interested in at Neo Domino City. Here’s a picture.”

An image of a young man in his early twenties appeared on the screen, an innocent face with pure, round eyes. The man shrugged at the thought of going back to Neo Domino. That was the place that the world was almost destroyed 50 years ago, when the Momentum was finally disestablished. Eager to finish his job quickly, he jumped into his black duel runner and sped towards his destination. The Coke he had was thrown aside, spilling wastefully on the ground’s dirt.

Eric studied the stranger carefully.

“What’s your name?” he inquired.

“My name is Garry, the CEO of D.T. Corporation, the one my father left for me when he passed away 10 years ago. And you?”

“I’m Eric. Since you told me more than I wanted to know, I guess I'll have to do the same. I graduated from Duel Academy early and live in an apartment.”

“Well Eric, there’s no need for you to tell me. I could’ve looked you up and found all the information I want in my database. Anyway, what did those guys want with you?”

“It could either be that they wanted revenge for beating their boss, or they want my cards,” said Eric as he crossed his arms in confusion.

“There’s no easy way to tell you this," said Garry with a voice of authority, "but that wasn’t their boss. Not even the man I dueled was their boss. The Dark Chasers are an evil organization that steals people’s rare cards and would kill you to do it. They plan on taking control of the world by being on top of dueling and overwhelming the government, since that is how today's society is run. They probably chased you for both reasons.”

“No way! Then how can the world go against an all powerful organization!?” exclaimed Eric, shocked that he had encountered such dangerous people and survived.

“That’s what my company is for. We scout the best duelists with a sense of justice in order to destroy the Dark Chasers.”

Eric studied Garry carefully. Though the man was obviously rich and snobby, an aura of a great duelist engulfed him. This man's passion was definitely real. However, Eric also sensed a dark energy screaming in pain from his deck. He doesn't treat his cards right, Eric thought. I won't trust this person.

“Well, good luck with that," mumbled Eric as he started to walk away. "I want to be involved in this as little as possible.”

“Too late," Garry replied almost immediately. "You’re already involved. You see, their duel disks are built with a recording system that tracks each move you make and every card you use. If they see that you have rare cards, they won’t stop chasing you until they take them, hence the name Dark 'Chaser'.”

“That’s insane!" Eric blurted out. "And why should I believe you? Where did you get that monster? It belonged to someone I knew a long time ago.”

“That monster, Leoferno, was specifically designed for me by my father. Our entire family has passed down my deck from the first Kenobi all the way to me. With the invention of Synchro monsters, that monster was made to symbolize our power. First, there is the mighty lion, the king of the jungle. Then, there is fire, the force that burns through everything. And besides, I don’t remember you. Were we in the same class or something?”

“The one I knew who had that card was in my preschool, Dueling Stars. He was kind. When my cards were stolen, he returned them back to me.”

Garry thought about his experience in preschool. He had only stayed in Truesdale Town for a year because his father was on a business trip there. He remembered that there was a wimp who always cried and had his cards taken by kids, not that they were much good, anyway. When those kids tried to steal that boy's cards, Garry had beaten them all in a duel. They tried to take his cards by force, but his private martial arts training came in handy. He knocked them all out and returned those cards to that boy. Was this commoner that boy?

“You’ve sure grown," answered Garry. "You don’t seem that weak anymore. At dueling, I mean. Seeing how you look right now, I can guess you still can’t fight,” smiled Garry, noticing Eric's battered and bruised body.

“You mean you’re him?" asked Eric in glee. "The kid that gave me back my cards?”

“My memory is a little foggy about that time, but I think so.”

“First of all, thank you!" shouted a suddenly energetic Eric. "I never used those cards in my deck because I still didn’t get to know who returned them to me!”

Eric showed him his cards in his pocket.

“That’s-!” exclaimed Garry.

“Yeah, I know, it’s a very good card, but I still kept my promise that I wouldn’t use it until-“

“That’s not what I mean! That’s Moonstar Dragon! It’s one of the rarest cards in the world!”

"In the world!?” screamed Eric, aghast.

“Yes! It’s the same ranking as my Crimson Blaze Dragon.”

“Crimson Blaze Dragon? Never heard of it.”

“Don’t you realize that the Dark Chasers have an even better reason to find you now? As long as you’re here, you won’t be safe. Why don’t you join my company?”

Somehow, Eric had known it would end up like this. Perhaps this person was only trying to win his favor just so that I would be a part of his Nazi army, thought Eric. At the offer, Eric felt a spark of anger.

“I refuse. I’m not a hero and I don’t plan on being one.”

Eric ran away towards his house. Garry watched expressionlessly as his body grew smaller and smaller until it vanished in the horizon. He sighed and then smiled. He knew that this was what everyone he scouted said in the beginning. However, they would soon think about the opportunity to save the world and become heroes. They would never refuse such an offer to attain fame and fortune. He would just have to wait until then. But for reassurance, Garry knew exactly how to win their favor quickly.

Meanwhile, Eric reached his house. He lay in pain on his bed and thought about Garry’s request. Should he have accepted it? It would seem like the logical thing to do. But he hated being part of a group with a cocky leader always telling him what to do. He always had. One time, he tried out for the soccer team and barely made it. However, he quit the very next day because the coach smacked him around for doing things incorrectly and yelled at him throughout the day. After that, he decided that he would never join another group again. There was suddenly a knock on the door.

A man barged in shouting.

“Eric! A group of Dark Chasers posted a wanted sign for your deck! They even kidnapped a little girl and threatened to kill her if you don’t comply! They're at the pier right now!”

“Then what Garry said was true!” exclaimed Eric.

He ran out the apartment and ran to the specified location-the pier. People cheered him on as he went. Though he was already out of breath, he enjoyed the excitement of being recognized and approved by others. An elderly woman stopped him.

“Oh please! Save my granddaughter!”

“No problem, lady,” said Eric as momentarily stopped and continued on his way.

When he arrived, the first thing he noticed was a duel arena, newly built for an attraction at the local carnival. Standing on the red side was an athletic-looking young man in torn blue attire. His face brimming with confidence, the man flicked his straight, black hair and waved his deck, informally challenging Eric to a duel. Turning his head aside, he found a little girl handcuffed to the side of the stadium, weeping in fear.

“If you want to save her, you better be ready to duel Whirlpool!" shouted the man. "Whirlpool take your deck along with your pride!”

“Not if I can help it,” retorted Eric, angered further by the Dark Chasers' dirty methods.

Eric stepped on to the other side and activated his duel disk. He attached a thin cable to a port on his disk, linking it to the podium used by those who do not own duel disks.

“Duel!” they shouted in unison.

“Whirlpool go first!” he said, drawing a card from his deck. “Whirlpool summon Fish Commander in defense mode!'

[spoiler=Fish Commander]Level 4

This card cannot be destroyed in battle. This card can be treated as 2 Synchro material monsters.

"Whirlpool set 2 cards. Turn end.”

Yellow lights flashed from two zones below them on the enlarged field where Solid Vision holograms were projected.

“My turn!” shouted Eric. “I discard Bright Star to Special Summon Moonlight Viking!"

[spoiler=Moonlight Viking]Level 5

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-2200 DEF-300

You can discard 1 card from your hand to Special Summon this card from your hand. If you do, you cannot summon another monster this turn.

A gruesome warrior equipped with brilliant bronze armor materialized from a monster zone on the field. Armed with a wooden axe, it struck a battle pose and grunted.

"Moonlight Viking, attack Fish Commander! Now, I discard Radiant Moon from my hand to let my monster deal piercing damage!"

[spoiler=Radiant Moon]Level 2

LIGHT/Psychic

ATK-0 DEF-1800

During your Battle Phase, you can discard this card from your hand to have your attacking monster deal piercing damage this turn.

“Whirlpool activate the Trap card Extreme Washout!"

[spoiler=Extreme Washout]Activate only when a monster’s effect activates. Negate the effect and equip this card to a monster on the field. That monster cannot attack as long as this card remains on the field.

"This card will negate your monster's effect and equip itself to your Moonlight Viking! So much for your little strategy!" mocked the man cockily.

As Eric's monster charged for its attack, a wave crashed onto it. The Viking became completely soaked and couldn’t move.

“I set 1 card. Turn end.”

Hmmm. It looks like he's trying to preserve that monster for next turn, thought Eric. There must be a reason for him to want to keep it out. Maybe a Synchro Summon.

“Whirlpool turn! Whirlpool summon the Tuner monster Rainbow Minnow!"

[spoiler=Rainbow Minnow]Level 3

WATER/Fish

ATK-1500 DEF-0

Once per turn, you can increase the ATK of one of your monsters by 300.

I knew it, Eric said to himself.

"Whirlpool tuning level 4 Fish Commander with level 3 Rainbow Minnow. Colossal waves crash on bare rock! Rise from the depths of the ocean! Synchro Summon! Surface, Dread Demon Shark!"

A devilish shark, one of the mightiest predators of the sea, shot up from a monster zone, roaring threateningly. Black armor filled with long spikes covered a majority of the beast's body. Its wicked expression, as well as the clanking of its razor sharp teeth, made the monster's blood lust apparent.

WATER/Fish

ATK-2900 DEF-2000

Any monster that battles this card is removed from play at the end of the Battle Phase.

"What?!" exclaimed Eric in puzzlement. "But you need at least 3 monsters to summon that card!"

"That is normally true," replied his opponent. "But with Fish Commander, I can use in a Synchro Summon as 2 monsters."

So that's what it was, Eric thought to himself.

"Dread Demon Shark, attack Moonlight Viking!” commanded Whirlpool.

The shark bulleted at the Viking and crunched it in half. Eric reluctantly slid his monster into the Graveyard. (3300/4000)

“Now, Whirlpool activate the Trap card Tidal Wave!"

[spoiler=Tidal Wave]If a Water attribute monster destroys a monster in battle, you opponent loses 1000 Life Points.

“I activate my Trap card Double Spy!" spoke Eric into his duel disk's microphone.

[spoiler=Double Spy](Negate all damage received this turn. You can Special Summon a Level 3 monster from your hand.

"I negate all damage this turn."

As a dark wave of water descended on Eric, a ninja shot out from the activated Trap card and threw a smoke bomb at the wave. The force of the explosion caused the water to splash down at the field rather than at Eric.

"I don't have a monster at the moment, so I won't be summoning one."

“Well, you might've lived that storm, but there will always be another! Whirlpool activate 3 Continuous Spell Kamikazes!"

[spoiler=Kamikaze]Once per duel (except for other copies of this card), you can deal your opponent 1200 points of damage during their End Phase.

"That means that you lose on my next turn! Turn end!”

Eric watched in disgust as Whirlpool chuckled and sniggered, proud of absolutely nothing. He stared blankly at the sky. The clouds, he noticed, were large and gray. A turbulent wind blew past him, slightly knocking him back. The waves of the ocean crashed and shook violently. This is a bad sign, he thought.

“You may think you have me in the bag," started Eric, "but I’ve got a little surprise for you."

I just hope I can back my words, he said to himself. If I can get "that" card, I'll have won this duel. Eric gulped and loosened the top card of his deck.

"My turn!" he shouted, looking at the card he had just drawn. Yes! I can finish this now, he thought.

"I discard the Tuner Monster Vanishing Moon to make your shark lose the same number of levels and ATK points as it!"

[spoiler=Vanishing Moon]Level 1

LIGHT/Psychic

ATK-1000 DEF-100

You can discard this card from your hand to have one of your opponent’s monsters lose 1000 ATK and 1 level. If you do, Special Summon this card to your side of the field in attack position on your next Battle Phase. You can Synchro Summon during your Battle Phase.

"I activate my Spell card Destruction of the Moon!"

[spoiler=Destruction of the Moon]Remove from play all monsters that weren’t sent to the Graveyard this turn and pay 1000 Life Points to take control of one of your opponent’s monsters.

"This turn, your Dread Demon Shark belongs to me!"

A shining moon rose from Eric's field, illuminating the dark surroundings. Draining his Life Points, a blast of light shot towards the moon, destroying it. In doing so, Whirlpool's shark was mesmerized by the glittering dust falling slowly to the floor and swam over to Eric's field. (2300/4000)

"As I enter my Battle Phase," declared Eric impatiently, "I Special Summon Vanishing Moon from the Graveyard! With its effect, I can Synchro Summon in my Battle Phase!"

"You can what?!" asked the muscular youth, completely taken off guard.

"I tune level 6 Dread Demon Shark with my level 1 Vanishing Moon! The shining moon guides all to greatness. Glisten brightly in your quest! Synchro Summon! Arise, Everbright Enchanter!"

A young sorceress, dressed in a bright robe with sparkling jewels, appeared from a blinding light. She raised her gold staff, the wind blowing her silky, blonde hair.

LIGHT/Spellcaster

ATK-2600 DEF-2000

When this card is Synchro Summoned, return all removed from play monsters back to their owner’s Graveyard. This card gains 100 ATK for each monster in both players’ Graveyards.

"Since there are 7 monsters in our Graveyards," Eric said, "my monster’s ATK becomes 3300. Your field is clear of monsters. Everbright Enchanter, direct attack! Shining Beam of Radiance!”

The sorcerer blasted a wave of light at Whirlpool. Unable to withstand the brightness, he covered his face and backed against the edge of his platform. (300/700)

“So what?" growled Eric's now infuriated adversary. "Whirlpool still didn’t lose and you take 3600 points of damage at the End Phase! You lose! Unless-!”

“Unless I have one more card to play. I activate the Quick Spell Moonlight Miracle!"

[spoiler=Moonlight Miracle]Deal 100 points of damage to your opponent for each monster in the Graveyard.

"That’s 700 in total! You lose!”

Seven fluorescent balls of light spun slowly in a ring. One by one, they shot towards Whirlpool, wiping out his remaining Life Points. (300/0)

“What!? Whirlpool never lose!” he exclaimed angrily.

Eric jumped off his platform while it was lowering. He broke the cuffs binding the girl with a rock and watched as she ran back to her grandmother. He was getting ready to leave himself when he heard a familiar voice.

“How did that feel, being the hero and all?” asked Garry coming from behind a tree.

“I should’ve known you were behind this. I still refuse your offer!” screamed Eric, his eyes burning with rage.

“Now now. Think about how great it felt to save that girl. You could do that every day if you joined my company.”

“I don’t want to be part of a company that kidnaps a child just to recruit someone! How could you do something so cruel?!”

“That girl was actually paid to put on this little stunt. Everyone in the town was. This whole duel was set up by me. Even this man named Whirlpool is a member of my company. This was a test of your ability and your willingness to help others. And you passed marvelously! So what do you say?”

“I refuse,” said Eric coldly.

As Eric started walking away, muttered a curse word.

“At least tell me why! Why not?!”

“The answer should be obvious,” Eric replied.

Garry watched as he disappeared into the horizon. At that moment, large raindrops fell from the dark sky, pounding loudly on the ground.

“Then I have no choice,” Garry said to himself, his face soaked with water. (…to be continued)

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 4: Eric’s Decision, The Moon vs. The Flame

The man in the black cloak called a direct attack as his monster fired a blast at his opponent, an old man. He was nothing, thought the man in black. There was nothing special about his deck. He didn’t even have trouble defeating that so-called rare card of his. The old man knelt on the ground crying after the Dark Chaser's leader of the Dark Squad took his most valuable card away from him. The rogue duelist kicked the senior, who was begging for his card back; he had done it without regret. Nothing he did since he joined the Dark Chasers was done with regret. He had learned to contain his heart’s feelings through the use of his dark monsters. As the duelist mounted his vehicle, he remembered how he even joined the Dark Chasers in the first place.

He was 18 at the time. He had been gambling in a club, a daily activity at that time, when a man cloaked in black entered. His first impression was that that man looked very powerful. The black duel disk on that person's arm proved that he was a duelist. Still arrogant at the time, he had unknowingly challenged the previous Dark Group's general. However, that man also proved to be rather cocky himself, having accepted the challenge almost immediately. His memory about that duel was foggy because he had been drunk when it occurred, but he did remember that he won. After he left the club, another man, this time wearing an expensive suit and tie, approached him and offered him a job as a card hunter. Seeing how high the salary, there was no reason for him to refuse. For his job, he was given a new deck. For an unknown reason, he hasn't been able to feel the scars of his past since. But having already worked 10 years for the Dark Chasers, he was beginning to get bored of facing such weaklings. He wanted a real challenge.

Returning to the present, the mysterious criminal drove away on his duel runner, blowing dust into the old man’s face.

At the meantime, Garry researched Eric’s history. What Eric had told him was true. He was from Dueling Star kindergarten and did graduate from Duel Academy at an early age. At age 14 in fact, just like him. However, the only difference is that he had been in Obelisk Blue while Eric had been in Ra Yellow, unable to rise to the top due to economical issues. He realized that Eric was raised out of poverty, unlike himself, who was rich since he was born. Garry didn’t like the idea that he was a great duelist only because he was raised by a noble family, while this low-class citizen could duel just as well. Everyone else he recruited was at least born from a middle class family. There was something different about Eric. It was as if he had a greater wisdom, a better understanding of the world. Perhaps the poor could see far more from their perspective than he could. Always looking down upon beggars himself, Garry couldn’t even begin to comprehend the kind of life Eric’s been through. Despite this, Garry had decided that he would join his company, with whatever means necessary.

Eric looked through his deck, visualizing every strategy in his head. Everything he had accomplished in dueling was due to his belief in his cards, whether they were strong or not. He had always believed that every card he drew, every card he played, was meant for a greater purpose, to help build a greater entity. A war is won from more than just crushing your opponent’s forces straight on. He glanced at his Moonstar Dragon. This was the card given to him by his mother before she died. That was what she left him when she had just given birth to him, which was almost the exact time she had left him. At least, that was what he wanted people to believe. Having always omitted it from his deck, he finally slid it in. He had already done what he had been waiting years to do: thank the person who returned it to him during kindergarten. Eric now thought about what kind of person Garry was. He appeared overconfident, conceited, and just mean. Of course, that was just his opinion. Was his judgment wrong? Did he think prejudicedly of wealthy people? Was he that kind of person? Garry's flame deck was unarguably strong. He would definitely have trouble facing Garry. But what was so special about him that Garry would want him to join D.T. Corporation so badly? Maybe it had to do with his Moonstar Dragon? He shrugged the thought off and drifted into a deep slumber.

The next morning, Eric heard a soft humming. As he opened his eyes, he felt a soft breeze. The humming grew louder. Through widened eyes, he saw a card flying directly at him with incredible speed. Eric quickly ducked and avoided a tragic death. The card cut a layer of paint from the wall it hit and fell onto Eric’s lap. Eric noticed that the card had a message written. “Now you don’t have a choice.” it read. Suddenly, a group of men in tuxedos barged into the room and charged at Eric. Only knowing one move in this situation, Eric ducked as they all crashed into one another. After a moment's silence, Eric realized that they had been knocked unconscious.

Hiding in a tree, Garry watched everything. Having seen that the first part of his plan failed, he pushed a button. From the card he threw into Eric's room, a sleeping gas was released. Observing the green smoke that drifted out from the window, he concluded that Eric had collapsed. Garry sent the rest of his group to bring Eric and his fainted attackers into a limousine. My plan was going to work without fail, Garry thought. One way or another.

Eric awoke tied to a chair in a dark room with minimal lighting. Garry stood at the corner, his arms crossed haughtily. Black-suited men surrounded the exits.

“What do you want from me?” Eric asked angrily.

“The answer is obvious. I want you to be a member of D.T. Corporation.”

“My answer is still the same.”

“Not for long. I am willing to double your salary if you join me.”

“I still refuse," replied Eric as he wiggled around on his chair. "What’s so important about me anyway?”

“You are very special. Someone of your dueling caliber is very difficult to find. Not only that, you come from a poor background. It is a wonder how you attained such a powerful deck.”

“I have my reasons. Now let me free!”

“Not until you join us! I’ll do whatever you want!” pleaded Garry, now desperate.

“I still refuse!”

“In that case, I will duel you for it!” the young entrepreneur screamed.

“You can’t force me to!”

“Yes I can! I can leave you here for days without food or water. You can either duel me or starve to death! I think my offer is quite a magnanimous one, wouldn’t you agree?”

“I’m not afraid of your threat but I never refuse a duel! Bring it on!”

A man in a black suit walked over to Eric. Expertly pulling out a switchblade, he cut the ropes, freeing Eric. Before he could escape, another man grabbed his arms. Gritting his teeth, Eric was led to a dark room. He felt a constant, cool breeze, which he assumed was air conditioning. As the lights flashed on, he saw a breathtaking view. His eyes wondering around the large room, Eric found a series of duel fields. They were each carefully painted gold, with Life Point counters resting on each side. Clusters of wires and cables made it obvious that high-tech machinery was used to project the highest quality images of the cards.

“I see you’re impressed by my state-of-the-art dueling field," grinned Garry. "You’re going to be even more impressed by my dueling skill. Shall we begin?”

“Now is as good a time as any!” Eric shot back.

“Duel!” both shouted together. Their duel disks flashed with light, signaling that the duel has begun. Each drew their hand of five cards, pulling the exact number from their deck at once.

“My stage, my turn,” said Garry arrogantly. “I summon Fierce Swordsman in attack mode!"

A muscular warrior, clothed in brown leather, jumped out from the ground. Taking a fighting stance, it pulled out its long broadsword.

"Now I activate the Field Spell Realm of Fire!"

From the ground they were standing on, the ruins of what appeared to be an ancient medieval castle rose. The floor was littered with the rubble of collapsed walls and ceilings. Behind Garry stood a large door with a devilish skull overhead. Eric watched in astonishment as a blazing fire erupted around the perimeter.

[spoiler=Realm of Fire]Each Standby Phase, each player gains 1 Flame Counter. During each player’s Main Phase, they can activate the following effects:

Satisfied with Eric's reaction, Garry reached for and pulled out two cards from his hand.

"I set 2 cards face down. Turn end.”

“My turn,” said Eric. (1/1) “I’ll quickly defeat you and take my leave! I discard Bright Star to Special Summon Moonlight Viking!"

A ferocious-looking viking in rags fell from above, cracking the stone it landed on. Smiling wickedly, it brandished its wooden axe.

"Moonlight Viking, attack Fierce Swordsman!”

“Not so fast!” Garry yelled immediately. “I activate my Quick Spell Burst into Flames!"

[spoiler=Burst into Flames]Decrease the attacking monster's ATK by 800. You do not take any battle damage this turn. If the attacking monster is not destroyed in battle, you can draw 1 card.

Moonlight Viking suddenly caught on fire. It yelled angrily but charged forward to attack nonetheless. Having been weakened, it was cut in half by Fierce Swordsman. (3400/4000)

“Grr,” Eric complained. “I set 2 cards face down. Turn end.”

“This is already a bad start for you," said Garry with a cruel smile on his face. "You better quit now! I might change my mind about letting you into my company due to your lack of dueling skills!"

"Searing flames engulf the world! Bolt from the smoldering fire! Synchro Summon! Appear, Swift Flare Knight!"

"Swift Flare Knight, direct attack! Flaming Slash!”

“I activate the Trap card Double Spy!" responded Eric. "This let's me negate damage I take this turn!"

As the knight galloped to strike, a ninja shot out from Eric's Trap card. Mercilessly, Garry's monster slashed through it with a sword, splattering its blood in every direction.

[spoiler=Double Spy]Negate all damage received this turn. You can Special Summon a Level 3 monster from your hand.

“Turn end,” said Garry, impressed with Eric's counter. "But you can't walk through fire without getting burned! Swift Flare Knight's effect inflicts you with 200 points of damage at my End Phase!"

Swift Flare Knight raised its sword, pointing it at Eric. Without warning, a stream of fire shot out from the tip, blasting through Eric's shoulder. He flinched in surprise.(3200/4000)

“Before we continue,” ventured Garry, “tell me why you have such a strong deck. How did you get accepted into Duel Academy?”

Taken aback by the question, Eric contemplated on whether to tell him the truth or not. After a moment's thought, he made his decision.

“Fine, I’ll tell you. I don't normally tell this to people, but I feel like I can trust your word as a duelist, even if I don't agree with your methods. My moonlight deck was given to me by my father, Robert Uchiha.”

“Robert Uchiha?!" exclaimed Garry. "The professor at Duel Academy 20 years ago?!”

“The same. He gave me his deck when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Before he died, he told me of a card that completed this deck. And that was my Moonstar Dragon. I happened to have found it in a mysterious cave while on a trip with my dad to Spain. We went to the ancient ruins of a civilization that worshiped the moon. When he was digging, I explored a small cave. In it was a tunnel small enough for me to barely fit through. There, I found a shrine with the card placed on an altar. Its grace and glowing beauty captivated me. I also saw a large number of skeletons. It was my guess, but I think they were killed trying to take what didn’t belong to them. However, I was completely unharmed when I reached out and took it. I was 4 at that time. I kept it a secret from him because I didn’t want anyone, not even my dad, to take my best friend away from me. I kept it until it was stolen from me at kindergarten. Yes, that was the place where you kindly returned that card to me. I wonder if you would have kept it instead if you had the chance to go back in time. It would be natural for a rare hunter such as yourself.”

Garry's eyes widened as soon as he heard that. He tilted his head down, closing his eyes and gritting his teeth. His body shook with fear, fear of uncertainty. Finally, after several minutes, Garry collected himself and gave his answer.

“That question shocked me. I wonder that myself. Am I really what I seek to destroy? Is my ambition merely a dark desire to become powerful? As I think about this more, the more puzzled I become. However, I still have a mission to complete, so on with the duel!”

“Very well, if that is your choice,” replied Eric. (3/3) “Bright Star is Special Summoned to my field due to its effect!"

A bright light flashed above the field. From it, a yellow, phosphoric ball of energy appeared. Suddenly, a pair of crystal clear eyes sprouted from it.

"I summon the Tuner monster Brightglow Dragon in attack mode!"

A majestic dragon spread its wings, blowing glittering dust into the air. Its bright, armored body shined with immense light, radiating everything in the room. Raising its head, the sparkling dragon let loose an echoing roar. Garry watched the beast as if he were in a trance, captivated by its beauty. Standing opposite him, Eric gazed at his monster in awe, his heartbeat resonating with that of the dragon's.

"I activate my Trap card Shining Glow!" declared Eric.

Moonstar Dragon, equipped with Eric's card, gleamed with a shining aura of light, dispelling the darkness of Garry's flames.

[spoiler=Shining Glow]Equip this card to a LIGHT attribute monster. It gains 1000 ATK and cannot be destroyed by card effects.

"Moonstar Dragon, attack Swift Flare Knight! Emanating Pulsar!"

The creature glowed brightly and launched a blast of light, completely destroying the knight. Garry stepped back in fear, broken from his spell of admiration. (3200/3100)

“Turn end.”

Garry gritted his teeth. “This could be a lot harder than I thought.” (…to be continued)

I've started reading this fanfic. I'm only on the first chapter so far, but I can tell it's slightly different from the mainstream join a duel academy and ***pull like hell to win duels exposition most people go with. So far the main character and the Hammer guy seem kind of bland and stereotypical of the selfless hero and selfish villain archetypes, but the story hasn't been too developed yet so that might change.

The way the plot is introduced doesn't really capture the reader's attention, but I'll wait until I've read your next few chapters to see if the introduction of the main elements of plot, setting, and characterization are adequately covered. My complaint would be that the situation introduced is somewhat unrealistic. Why exactly does the gang leader have to defeat his opponent in a duel before taking his opponent's rare cards if he's using force in the first place? Also, to what extent is the significance of dueling in this world if it serves to settle crimes like theft rather than serve as a medium for entertainment?

The duel itself was kind of hard to follow in the current format of clustering several lines of information together. The cards themselves were somewhat confusing the first read through for me. Maybe if you changed the specific layout of the monster's description to the more standard version of (Level/ATK/DEF) or just go with

Description/Effect

it'd become much more conveniant for the reader to follow. The card effects themselves were underwhelming to me since they so often require the player to deplete hand advantage for small advantages that don't make up the cost of playing them. Some of that was balanced out by cards like 'Monster Drainer' but they just seem too inconsistent to serve towards a greater strategy. As they stand right now, they seem like a mediocre compilation of cards with little synergy for each other. But then again, that's my personal take on it, and I do tend to make somewhat, if not completely, broken cards.

Besides that, just follow the usual advice of extrapolating what good fanfics have from reading the more popular fanfics on here like Dead Zone, which I especially like. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm really into those kinds of stories. If it gets too obvious, I may need to change a thing or two.

The way the plot is introduced doesn't really capture the reader's attention, but I'll wait until I've read your next few chapters to see if the introduction of the main elements of plot, setting, and characterization are adequately covered. Also, to what extent is the significance of dueling in this world if it serves to settle crimes like theft rather than serve as a medium for entertainment?

As I mentioned earlier, this story takes place in the same world as Yu-Gi-Oh! 5d's. If you haven't seen that, the police basically catch criminals by dueling them. When you lose a duel on a duel runner, it stops and you're basically screwed. In the same sense that the government would give criminals a chance to escape arrest, I wanted the bad guy (never shows up again btw) to give the protagonist a chance to win his freedom (which, as you find out later, is not the case).

The duel itself was kind of hard to follow in the current format of clustering several lines of information together. The cards themselves were somewhat confusing the first read through for me. I was contemplating on how the card descriptions would work. You see, I've made deck lists for each characters and used the parentheses format for all of them, so it would only seem obvious to place them in the story the exact same way. But if it was that confusing, I could make it like Dead Zone. As for the "underwhelming" cards, I want to avoid overpowered cards as much as possible (I really hate meta decks). And besides, what character have you seen that uses a boringly perfect deck?

Besides that, just follow the usual advice of extrapolating what good fanfics have from reading the more popular fanfics on here like Dead Zone, which I especially like. Good luck.

Yeah, I am also currently reading Dead Zone and really like it! Thank you for the helpful suggestions!

Well, I'm pretty satisfied with how this is turning out, but I would like more comments. Here's Chapter 5 and the conclusion of the Eric vs. Garry duel.

[spoiler=Chapter 5]

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 5: Extreme Heat, Extinguish the Flames of Pain

On his way to Battle City, the man in the black cloak stopped at a dueling bar for a few drinks. Known to many people from the city to the countryside, bars and clubs were known for their gambling and violence. There, many tough underground duelists duel it out to their hearts' content. It was also a great place to learn of current or upcoming events in the dueling world. However, things could get a little messy now and then. He just happened to come in at one of those times. In a duel over who would take the last seat, a skinny dark man lost to a bratty young lady. Though she attracted the eyes and hearts of many duelists in the bar with her ravishing looks, she was also a fearsome duelist. She actually happened to have a rare card the organization was looking for. Unable to surrender his pride, the skinny man took out a blade and threatened to kill her if she didn’t give him her rare card, a common sight in these parts. As everyone was prepared for an all-out brawl, the man took one last drink of his whiskey and decided to complete his mission. With one knock on the head, he sent the skinny man flying through the wall. The crowd hushed and whispered at the man’s god-like strength. He activated his duel disk, ready to take the woman out. This, he thought, is another job well done.

Meanwhile, the duel between Eric and Garry fired up.

“My turn,” Garry said. (4/4) “I Special Summon Rising Dragon!"

[spoiler=Rising Dragon]Level 5

EARTH/Dragon

ATK-2000 DEF-0

This card can be Special Summoned from your hand if you have no monsters on your side of the field. If you summon it this way, its ATK is cut in half.

A tan colored dragon covered in bronze armor flew upwards from a portal created on a Monster Zone. Spreading its wings, it landed on the ground and let out a hoarse roar.

"My dragon can be Special Summoned when I have no monsters. Next, I Special Summon the Tuner monster Flame Soul!"

[spoiler=Flame Soul]Level 3

FIRE/Pyro

ATK-500 DEF-0

This card can be Special Summoned from your hand if there is a Level 5 monster on the field.

A rotating ring of fire appeared beside Rising Dragon. Suddenly, the flames collapsed and a ball of fire was formed from the embers. Floating calmly in the air, two black eyes appeared.

"Because I have Rising Dragon, a level 5 monster, on the field, this card can be Special Summoned. Now that I have two monsters, I tune level 5 Rising Dragon with level 3 Flame Soul! Searing flames engulf the world! Soar from the smoldering fire! Synchro Summon! Incinerate, Crimson Blaze Dragon!"

Flame Soul divided itself into three, each piece molding into a fiery ring. These rings surrounded the dragon, building intense heat and pressure. Screeching in pain, Rising Dragon was enveloped by the fire, bursting into searing flames. It enlarged to a humongous size, its features sharpening as it did so. When its mass matched that of Moonstar Dragon, the conflagration faded. Standing before Eric was a massive red dragon, hovering in the air with gigantic wings covered with black spikes. Its thick tail swung violently around the area, smashing through the walls. Eric stood paralyzed by the monstrosity.

[spoiler=Crimson Blaze Dragon]1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner

FIRE/Dragon

ATK-2800 DEF-1600

When this monster is Synchro Summoned, deal 500 points of damage to your opponent. Each time this monster attacks, discard one card from your opponent's hand. If they don't have cards in their hand, destroy 1 card on the field instead or deal 500 points of damage to your opponent.

"You seem surprised when you saw my powerful monster," boasted Garry. "But fear isn't the only thing you'll experience from it! When Crimson Blaze Dragon is summoned, you take 500 points of damage from its effect!"

Cinders could be seen flying out of the treacherous dragon's mouth as it charged a ball of fire. When finished gathering energy, the beast launched a boulder-sized fireball at Eric. Although it was only a hologram, he was stricken with even greater fear when he saw the area it attacked, completely obliterated and destroyed. (2700/3100)

"Turn end,” smiled Garry cruelly.

“M-my turn!” stammered Eric. (5/5)

That thing is insane, he thought to himself. I have to destroy it while its out there! The sooner that monster leaves the field, the better!

“I summon Moonlight Axe Wielder in defense mode!"

A masculine warrior armed with a wooden axe materialized onto the field and knelt in a defensive stance.

[spoiler=Moonlight Axe Wielder]Level 4

While this card is face up on the field, your opponent cannot activate any Trap cards during the Battle Phase.

"When my axe wielder is on the field, you can't activate Traps on my Battle Phase!" Perfect, he thought. This will guarantee that his monster will be destroyed!

“Then I activate my Trap now!" shouted Garry. "Heat Wave! This stops you monsters from attacking this turn, provided that I have at least 5 Flame Counters, which I do."

Eric watched helplessly as a large wave of energy blew past his monsters, blinding them.

[spoiler=Heat Wave]Activate only if you have 5 or more Flame Counters. All of your opponent's monsters cannot attack this turn.

“Maybe I can’t attack," said Eric as he glared angrily, "but I can still deal damage! I play the Quick Spell Crescent Moon Beam!"

[spoiler=Crescent Moon Beam]For each monster on your side of the field, deal your opponent 1000 points of damage. You cannot activate a Spell or Trap card until your next Standby Phase.

A small, glowing rock rose from the card and launched a swift beam of light at Garry. Garry flinched at the speed of the ray. (2700/1100)

"From that card's effect, you take 1000 points of damage for each monster I have. I had 2 monsters, so you lose 2000 Life Points!"

"Turn end," said Eric, a little more confident after his last move.

“My turn!" grunted Garry. (6/6) “I activate the Quick Spell Blazing Wing!"

[spoiler=Blazing Wing]Activate only if "Crimson Blaze Dragon" is on your side of the field. It gains 1000 ATK and can attack twice this turn.

"This turn, my dragon gains 1000 ATK and can attack two times! Crimson Blaze Dragon, attack Moonlight Axe Wielder! Scorching Flame of Destruction!"

Crimson Blaze Dragon flew in the sky with its enlarged wings of inferno and shot a large, flaming fireball at the warrior, obliterating all traces of it.

"Due to its effect," he continued, "I can discard that card in your hand!"

Eric closed his eyes as he regretfully slid the only card in his hand into his Graveyard slot.

'Now, I attack Moonstar Dragon! Scorching Flame of Destruction! But my monster's effect activates before any battling is done! Since you have no more cards in your hand, I can destroy a card on the field, such as your Shining Glow! That means that Moonstar loses 1000 ATK!"

Eric winced as his Trap card was shattering by a wave of scorching air. The winged creature tilted its head back to charge another fireball, launching it directly at Eric's weaker dragon. Moonstar Dragon was struck in the chest and exploded in flames. (1300/1100)

"Turn end.”

“Arggggg…,” Eric snarled as he gritted his teeth. (7/7) “My turn!"

He looked at the card he had just drawn. Not left with many options, Eric decided to try his luck.

"I summon the Tuner monster Moonlight Guard!"

An armored knight, armed with a large, steel shield, leapt out from Eric's card and knelt to the ground to defend its master.

[spoiler=Moonlight Guard]Level 3

ATK-0 DEF-2000

If your opponent’s monster attacks this card, all of your opponent’s monsters’ effects are negated. As long as every monster in your Graveyard is LIGHT attribute, this card cannot be destroyed in battle.

"Turn end,” mumbled Eric, clinging to hope.

“My turn,” smiled Garry. (4/8) “I activate Realm of Fire’s effect. By removing 4 counters, I deal you 800 points of damage!"

From behind Garry, the ancient skull opened its mouth and blasted a stream of flames at Eric. (500/1100)

"Now I’ll do it again so you lose! (0/8)”

“Not so fast," smirked Eric, delighted that his plan had worked. "I remove Moonlight Condenser from my Graveyard to avoid taking damage and destroy one of your monsters! Time to rid the field of Crimson Blaze Dragon!"

Just as the beam was about to strike Eric, a robed magician appeared, converting the flames to energy. Aiming its wand, the spellcaster redirected the attack, blasting a hole through Crimson Blaze Dragon. The creature hollered in agony and exploded.

“But that card wasn’t in your Graveyard!” argued Garry.

“How quickly we forget. That card was sent to the Graveyard when your monster attacked me. It was your own effect that backfired against you!”

“Grrr, turn end,” he grumbled, angry at his own mistake.

“My turn, Eric said. (1/9) “I activate Realm of Fire’s effect. I remove 8 counters to draw 1 card."

Eric turned around to find a skull behind him identical to Garry's. It opened its mouth and shined a light at Eric. Amused by Garry's dramatic visual effects, he drew a card.(1/1)

Eric tried desperately to stop himself from bursting into laughter when he saw his monster struggling to yank a card out of his deck and trying to catch its breath after he had drawn.

"I set 2 cards face down. Turn end.”

“My turn,” said Garry, annoyed that Eric was able to find humor at this time. (2/2) “I activate the Continuous Spell Prodigy of Fire!"

When his card appeared on the field, a female warrior in a red cloak stepped out from it. She took a stance while unsheathing her sword, looking curiously at Eric's bird.

"Prodigy of Fire, attack Lunar Wing!”

“I activate my trap card Moonlight Veil!" declared Eric with a raise of his hand.

[spoiler=Moonlight Veil]No LIGHT attribute monsters can be destroyed this turn. You gain 500 Life Points.

As the female fighter charged at Eric's bird, a white blanket cloaked the winged beast, saving it from destruction. Eric closed his eyes as a white aura surrounded him, granting him 500 more Life Points. (1000/1100)

Lunar Knight charged and struck at Garry’s monster with his lance. Prodigy of Fire attempted to block with her sword, sparks flying from the clash of metal. However, the warrior of the moon broke through and pierced through her in the chest. The female fighter screamed in pain and disintegrated. (1000/400)

“Since Prodigy of Fire was destroyed as a monster," growled Garry, "you take 500 points of damage!”

A shard of the prodigy's weapon flew at Eric and struck him in the leg. (500/400)

“Turn end.”

“My turned,” said Garry, enthusiastic to win. (4/4) “I remove 4 counters to deal 800 points of damage!”(0/4)

“I activate the Equip Trap Magnetic Wave!" said Eric sternly.

"By equipping it to Moonlight Guard, it can lose ATK or DEF instead of letting me take damage! It loses 800 DEF so that I can negate 800 points of damage.”

The skull standing behind Garry shot another wave of flames toward Eric. Defending its master, Moonlight Guard charged to intercept the blast, taking the damage for himself.

“I activate Burning Rebirth!" called an irritated Garry.

[spoiler=Burning Rebirth]Special Summon "Crimson Blaze Dragon" from your Graveyard. Its effect is negated.

"With this, I can bring Crimson Blaze Dragon back from the Graveyard!"

The scarlet dragon rose from below the field and let loose a terrifying screech.

"Unfortunately, attacking you won't do much good because your Moonlight Guard can't be destroyed and its effect stops my dragon from inflicting damage or destroying cards. Turn end.”

“My turn!” yelled Eric. (1/5) “I activate the Quick Spell Moon Wave Swap!"

[spoiler=Moon Wave Swap]Return one monster you control to their owner’s hand to Special Summon a monster from your Graveyard. It cannot activate its effect or attack this turn. You can add a card from your deck to your hand if you returned a Synchro monster.

"Using my monster's effect, I remove Fire attribute monsters in the Graveyard and gain 500 Life Points for each. I have 3 so I gain 1500 Life Points!"

By absorbing the flames of Garry's monsters, the monster showered him with cool, refreshing water. (500/1900)

"And since I had another monster when I used this effect, I can destroy 1 card on the field. I destroy Magnetic Wave!"

Fire Extinguisher launched a large blast if water, drowning and destroying Eric's card.

"Turn end.”

“My turn!” said Eric. (3/7) “Moonstar Dragon, attack Crimson Blaze Dragon with Emanating Pulsar! I discard Moonlight Wave Generator for Moonstar to gain 1500 ATK."

Empowered by the mystical energy of the moon, Moonstar Dragon released a gargantuan blast of energy, engulfing Garry's monster. (500/400)

"I set 1 card face down. Turn end.”

“My turn,” Garry said, now paranoid. (8/4) “This is the end. I summon the Tuner monster Fry Cook of Fire."

"Leoferno, attack Moonstar Dragon!”

Enveloped by dark fire of Kurohouka, the blazing lion was able to match the power of Moonstar Dragon. Both monsters clashed and were destroyed in a large explosion.

"When Leoferno destroys a monster with higher original ATK than it," said Garry with a crude smile, "you take 1000 points of damage. Good game.”

“Yeah, the game is over," admitted Eric, a smile forming in the corner of his mouth. "For you that is. I activate my Trap card Damage Reverse!"

[spoiler=Damage Reverse]All effect damage you would take this turn is dealt to your opponent instead.

"With this card, you take all damage I would have taken! You lose.”

“IMPOSSIBLE!” Garry screamed in utter despair.

As the beast released a powerful burst of fire, a barrier formed around Eric, reflecting the blazing flames at Garry. (500/0)

“How could I have lost?” Garry asked as he knelt on one knee on the floor. That was the symbol of defeat. It shows that the loser had respect for the winner and acknowledges them as a true duelist.

“You lost because you concentrated so hard on defeating me and making me join you that you lost faith in your cards," said Eric, standing before his adversary. "And so, they lost faith in you. You should learn to think of your cards as your friends instead of just tools meant to fulfill your wishes. I hope you take this lesson to heart.”

“Yes. I can see that you are a great duelist," conceded Garry. "I admit defeat. But the next time we duel, I will show you the true bond between me and my deck!”

“Hmph,” Eric said as he walked away with a grin.

“Wait! Tell me, why won’t you join D.T. Organization? You saw our capability in our duel just now!”

“It’s because my deck tells me not to," replied Eric with a serious expression. "They love the freedom of doing whatever they please. It's just like the moon in the sky. It is bright and provides light to those in the darkness. The moon does not obey orders from anyone. That is why.”

Garry stared in awe at Eric as he walked out the main door. He was a wimp in kindergarten, Garry thought, but he stands here a better man than I am. Garry had taken on a serious thought. What was his motive exactly? Garry returned to his chamber, exhausted from that duel. Eric, he thought, a strong and capable duelist. An even stronger person with a kind heart. I now know what I must do.

It had been in his very grasp if only he had realized it sooner. Having always been on top himself, Garry had finally experienced defeat. It wasn’t very bad. In fact, he felt enlightened. It was as if that one person had awakened his true self. A moon that shines in the darkest night, expelling the evil of the world, guiding those in need of help. He now had a rival. Even though Eric wasn’t part of his company, Garry knew they would meet again very soon. He was oblivious of the fact that the destinies of Eric Uchiha and Garry Kenobi were greatly intertwined. Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 6: Garry’s Dilemma, The Resolve of Flames

The man in the black cloak entered the museum, looking for duelists who might have rare cards. In this time and day, museums contained the cards used by former dueling champions: Yuki, Truesdale, Phoenix, Mutou, Fudo, all of them. Built purely out of marble, they gave rise to a revolutionary new industry. Since their creation about 100 years ago, the urban economy has experienced major growth. However, this also made known the location of the rarest cards in the world.

The Dark Chaser general glanced around and noticed a child cockily rummaging around the Fudo Gallery. Intrigued by his mischievous expression and sneaky tip-toeing, the man decided to follow him. From the corner of a wall, he noticed the boy slipping a device inside the glass display of Stardust Dragon. Interesting, thought the man. There should be infrared lasers guarding the card. Why didn't the kid trigger them? It was then that he noticed a blinking red light on his duel disk. This kid somehow managed to get his dirty little hands on a gadget made by professional thieves, a gadget that nullifies lasers in security devices. However, smiled the man, there is a second line of defense. A special 50-digit code is needed to unlock the case in which cards used by legendary heroes in history were stored. There is no way the kid can get past this one. He was wrong. The case suddenly opened and the boy snatched his target. The man raised his eyebrow, impressed by how much a snot-nosed brat knew, and smiled coldly. Since the card was now stolen property, he could take it for the organization. Eager to impress his boss, he followed the boy out the museum. The infant walked around with a casual smirk, clueless to what pain awaited him.

Garry sat at the CEO’s office, thinking deeply about his loss. Eric had told him that he was too busy trying to destroy his opponents instead of having faith in his cards. He stared into his deck, trying to figure out a flaw. His deck had never failed him before. It was true that that was his toughest duel in a long time, the other being the succession duel against his dying father. He had been using his own deck at that time, the deck he had used since he was a child. He had grown up with it, but it was now locked inside his safe, neglected since he had inherited his father’s deck 5 years ago. Garry suddenly felt an urge to pay his cards a visit. Driven by a deep yearning, he strolled to the hidden vault inside his wall.

Eric walked to the local market to buy his iced tea. As he entered through the automatic door, he saw that the thin, elderly owner, David Houshimaru, was crying. A plump and short man wearing a fancy suit and tie stood next to him with a large grin. It seemed like there was some kind of trouble.

“What’s the problem, Mr. Houshimaru?” Eric asked cheerfully.

“Go away, pest! This isn’t your problem!” shouted the store owner as he sat on a table and wept loudly.

The comment didn’t hurt Eric very much. It appeared that even the store owner didn’t like Eric, no surprise considering that many others didn't like him either. Although the old geezer spited him every time he came to buy a drink, Eric had hoped Mr. Houshimaru would grow fond of him if he kept coming to buy iced tea. But that didn’t seem to be the case.

“Come on," said Eric, attempting to raise his spirits. "You can tell me. I’m a repeat customer after all.”

“Fine! If I tell you, will you go away?! My son, Hajime, received a 70 on his last test. He’s in an expensive pro-dueling institute on scholarship. However, the school has a policy that each test that scored below an 80 would cost the student a million dollars! I can’t afford that! My only option is to sell the store! Now leave!”

“Now this doesn’t seem very fair," Eric pondered. "This officially gets me involved.”

“How so, maggot!?” cried Mr. Houshimaru.

“Excuse me, business dude," said Eric, turning to face the corpulent man. "Are you the banker for the school?”

“Why indeed I am,” replied the stout man. “My name is Mr. Jorgan. Pleased to do business with you.”

“Actually, not so pleased. I challenge you to a duel! If I win, you will cancel this deal!”

“Hmm, interesting," he said as he strokes his mustache. "I accept. But what if you lose?”

“I will pay your fine in double. How does that sound?”

“Lovely!" the man exclaimed. "Now that is what I call a contract!”

“No! You know you can’t pay that!” argued the miserable owner.

“Watch this,” smiled Eric.

“Duel!” both said simultaneously.

Garry drove around town on his duel runner, recently painted a dark crimson color with extra layers of wax. He was soothed by the whistling wind rushing through his hair. Everywhere he looked, there was a duel going on, with amateurs participating in them. He wanted to show everyone his authority as a duelist, but something in his heart felt empty. He didn’t like losing. He wanted a rematch against Eric. Unable to stand the humiliation any longer, he stopped his vehicle, sparks flying from the ground. Turning around, he rushed towards Truesdale Town. However, Garry would be sidetracked by a road block on the quickest path. The traffic was heavy and time was slipping through his fingers, along with his patience. Ignoring the street rules, Garry sped through all the cars, crashing into a few along the way. I don't care about the cost, he thought. I need to defeat Eric!

Meanwhile, the duel between Eric and Mr. Jorgan reached a conclusion.

“I summon Monopoly Controller!" declared the man, slapping a card onto his gold duel disk.

A slender fiend in a violet suit rose from a black portal in the ground. Its gold teeth, accessories, and even hair proved its wealth.

"I set 1 card and end.”

“I attack you with my Moonstar Dragon!” shouted Eric.

“You idiot! I pay 1000 of your Life Points to negate the attack. In other words, you lose! Hahaha!!” laughed the man merrily.

As the armored dragon flew in for an attack, it crashed into a wall of gold bars, tumbling on the floor and smashing through a wall. (0/4000)

“No way!” screamed Eric as he fell onto his knees.

“I guess that means that you owe me 2 million dollars. And, as a bonus, I‘ll take this card.”

He reached over and took Moonstar Dragon. Eric tried desperately to take it back but his guards grabbed him, threw a barrage of punches, and tossed him out of the store. Bursting with rage, Eric screamed into the air and slammed the ground with his fists until they bled. The pain on his hands was nothing compared to the pain of losing one of his best friends. Suddenly, Mr. Houshimaru came over and put his arm around him. Eric looked up, tears forming in his eyes.

“That was some really brave stuff out there, kid. Looks like I misjudged you. Here. Take this iced tea as a sign of thanks.”

Eric stared at him, shocked at his sudden change in behavior towards him.

“Thanks,” he mumbled as he sat weakly on the ground, mourning the loss of his card.

Suddenly, a burst of wind blew Eric’s hair back. He sensed a familiar presence. Upon seeing Eric, Garry decelerated his crimson duel runner and came to a complete halt.

“What the hell is a duelist of your caliber doing moping on the ground?!" he asked angrily. "What happened?"

“I lost a duel," Eric muttered faintly. "I was trying to help Mr. Houshimaru here with his debt problem. You see, his son got a bad score on a test at a snobby private school and they're forcing him to pay a million dollars for it. But I just made it worse. I made a deal that I would pay him 2 million if I lost as long as he dropped the charges if I won. He took my Moonstar Dragon-.”

“Nice story, Eric," interrupted Garry, clearly uninterested in the story. "I’m disappointed in you. I’m also a little jealous. I wanted to be the one to defeat you, but it looks like I was too late. However, I still have a chance to even out the score."

"Hey you!," shouted Garry at the fleshy man. "That’s right, banker, I challenge you to a duel! If I win, you will drop all charges and remove the policy! You will also return Moonstar Dragon!”

“I accept, Mr. Kenobi," grinned Mr. Jorgan, his large hands shaking in anticipation. "However, if I win, you will pay me 2 million…MONTHLY!”

“Well, it seems you know who I am already. I accept!”

"Why, of course. What kind of businessman wouldn't know about the most wealthy man in the world? I will enjoy putting you out of business!"

"Don't get too full of yourself. You haven't a chance against me!"

“You can’t!” cried Eric, “His deck is-“

“I don’t care!" shouted Garry. "I will show you my change! I will show you that I am still superior to you! By defeating him, I am actually fulfilling my goal of defeating you!”

“Duel!” both players said at once.

“Since I am giving up the most here,” Mr. Jorgan said obnoxiously, “I should go first. I summon Evil Accountant in attack mode.

“You take 1000 for that card you just drew!” laughed the banker.

Taken completely by surprise, Garry fell back when the goblin agilely dashed forward and pulled a bag of money from Garry. Embarrassed by his lack of preparedness, Garry stood up, brushing dust off of his expensive blazer. (3000/4000)

“I Special Summon Rising Dragon from my hand!" he announced.

“This was exactly how he beat me!" bawled Eric. "There’s not a card in your deck that can help you now! I’m sorry I got you into this whole mess!”

“Hmph!” Garry grunted. “That may be true for my old deck, but I now realized the will of my family’s flame deck passed down through the years. The reason why it is so strong is not because of the cards that are in it, but the souls of each user. You see, each member added a separate card into this deck. Now, I can show you mine. "Also, Attack Reflection Shield activates, giving you 1000 points of damage!”

The warrior dragged its fist back as it sprinted towards the flame eater, flames erupting from its body along the way. When it was in striking distance, it swung a heavy right hook at the magician, who crashed forcefully onto the stone floor. Garry stepped back from the shock waves that single attack caused. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” yelled the banker in anguish.

“Looks like I’ve reclaimed my honor, Eric,” Garry said as he returned Moonstar Dragon.

“Thanks. You don’t know how much this means to me!”

“Does that mean you’re gonna be joining my company?” asked Garry hopefully.

“Not a chance!”

“I thought so,” he smiled.

As Garry drove off into the horizon with a feeling of immense satisfaction, Eric watched him disappear. This isn’t the first time, thought Eric. He returned my card again. I was wrong about you. You are a true duelist, Garry. I want to duel you again someday. (…to be continued)

Chapter 7: Puzzling Confusion, The Moon that Guides All

The man in the dark cloak hid in the shadows beside a large, office building, observing a duel between the plant duelist Hailey Rose and the insect duelist Insector Reynolds. It appeared as if Rose was in the lead until Insector activated a trap that destroyed her field. He then managed to summon a high-leveled monster and attack her directly. What a pathetic way to lose, he thought. Having lost an ante-duel, Rose relunctantly gave him her rarest card: the Black Rose Dragon. The man had no clue from who or where she attained that card, but he knew one thing: it would soon be his. Wearing an arrogant grin on his smug face, Insector left the sullen plant duelist mulling over her loss. Without a second thought, the man stepped in front of Insector and challenged him to a duel. Thinking that his deck was invincible now that he had the legendary Black Rose Dragon, the nerdy-looking duelist accepted immediately. As each player took their positions on opposite sides of a duel field, both duel disks flashed, indicating the game has begun. The man smiled diabolically, knowing that the kid had no chance of winning.

Today was Eric’s birthday, the one day of the year he wished to remove from the calendar. He rarely had anyone to celebrate with since nobody liked him, so he usually ate a meal at the park and watched the birds. They ate whatever they could find and never shared food with their own brethren. Surviving by themselves while "living" with their friends and family, these birds formed what he thought was a perfect species. They reminded him of how he wanted to be. Eric would normally sit quietly on a comfortable bench, fascinated by the flawless ways these animals lived their lives. However, instead of the usual routine, he had something else in mind today. For over 5 years, he had saved every penny he could get his hands on (excluding the expenses of his iced tea) in order to buy what he wanted his whole life. It was every poor duelist’s dream: a duel runner! He had been lucky because a new model had just been released this very day. Eric enthusiastically ran to the duel runner shop in town square, eager to buy that duel runner of his dreams. However, by the time he arrived, he noticed that there was only one left, and the first person in line looked eager to buy it. He felt a deep remorse. It was probably the disappointment of not being able to get what he waited years for. No, it was the anger he felt towards that man in front. He was no doubt a less-deserving duelist than he, one that he could easily beat. But Eric was that humble of a person. He would do nothing, not even duel him for it. It wasn’t the same fear of bullies he felt as a kid, but rather a respect for people and their pride in their bonds, bonds created by life’s experiences with valued objects. He took a closer look at the man in front to make sure he was really worthy of owning that vehicle. To Eric's surprise, it was only a homeless man. However, it looked like he had the same ambition as Eric had: dueling. Eric was glad that it wouldn’t have gone to a snobby rich man, who would take such sophisticated artillery for granted. His satisfaction was cut short, when suddenly, the man behind the tramp offered him a large roll of bills, bills he gladly took and flew out the store with. A burning rage aroused within Eric. Now, some wealthy person would take what was rightfully his. He had a million things he wanted to say to that man, but could not find it in himself to do anything. That ignorant man! He despised everything about him: his scarlet blazer, his gold watches, his specially customized duel disk, his clean black hair. In fact, everything about that man reminded him of-

“Hello, Eric," greeted a familiar face. "Fancy meeting you here.”

“Garry! I knew it was you! You just bought that duel runner I saved 5 years of money to buy! Well, go ahead and do whatever you want with it! You probably have a billion duel runners at your disposal anyway!” exploded Eric in rage.

“It’s true that I own a good number of these MLG-V6 duel runners,” Garry replied, “but I came here personally to buy this one for you. It is your birthday after all. I was planning on surprising you with this, but it looks like you just spoiled it.”

Eric's eyes widened when he heard Garry's explanation. When he expected an obnoxious retort, the man he thought was his enemy had surprised him with a thoughtful and generous gift. He suddenly felt a bottomless pit of guilt in his stomach. He felt that no matter how much he apologized, there would be no way to make up for such a mean stereotype.

“Sorry for judging you like that, Garry. I just have a major problem with wealthy people. Thanks for the thought, though. But, why are you treating me so nicely?”

“I thought that the person who inspired me to make this should at least have one!" exclaimed Garry. "MLG-V6 stands for Moonlight Gladiator Version 6. At first, I was planning on just giving it to you for free. But then, I remembered how stubborn you were about accepting help from others. Therefore, I hacked into your checking account to see if you hand enough money to afford one. As it turned out, you've been saving money for quite some time. I assumed that you wanted to buy a duel runner, so I changed the release date of these things. I even went through the trouble of making sure that this last one would be the one that I custom designed. But when I saw that you wouldn't make it in time, all I had to do was bribe the guy who bought it. I hope you like my little present.”

“I’m speechless!" gasped Eric, having a sudden admiration for Garry. "I have no idea that you could be so generous! Thank you! Truly!”

“I should be the one thanking you. If you hadn’t shown me the meaning of faith in my cards, I might never have truly inherited my father’s heart. So, do you know how to use this, or do I need to show you how?”

“I……honestly have no clue how to even start the thing!”

“Really?!” laughed Garry, “Why don’t you come over to my company this afternoon so I could show you? I have some important business right now, so I gotta run. Happy birthday!”

Garry drove off on his crimson duel runner, the friction between the wheel and the ground creating sparks. Eric walked his gleaming, new bike home. Along the way, he observed some of its features. It's body, just recently painted ultramarine blue with gold trim, was small and slender, probably meant for greater speed. The wheels were of the average size and located far in front and back of the main body. Long balancers hung attached to the arched back of the vehicle. Despite the speed and ease it provides the rider, Eric noted that the screen was relatively small. However, Eric would have been pleased with any duel runner he got either way. Along his walk home, he stopped at a card store and used his saved money to buy a set of Speed Spells. At his apartment, he merrily organized his deck into one suitable for turbo duels and headed to the local market to buy a hot dog for lunch. Upon entering, he received yet another surprise.

“Happy birthday, Eric! What’s it gonna be today?” asked Mr. Houshimaru.

“Thanks, Mr. Houshimaru. I’m getting a hot dog. That’s all.”

“That’s it? Looks like you spent big money today. Tell me, whatdya get?”

“I got a duel runner and some Speed Spells,” smiled Eric, still unbelieving of today's series of remarkable events.

“A duel runner?!” asked the shocked store owner. “Where did you get that kind of money?”

“I’ve been saving up.”

“That’s good to hear. So even kids this generation know what a penny on the ground is worth, huh? Well, to congratulate you, I’m giving you a free iced tea today! No need to thank me! It’s your birthday after all!”

“You’re being too nice to me. Don’t tell me you’re getting soft, Mr. Houshimaru?”teased Eric as he picked a bottle from a shelf.

“What are you talking about?" asked the blushing owner. "Now get out of my store, brat!”

Eric walked out the store laughing. Now, he sat on a bench at Truesdale Park and took a large bite of his hot dog, which, he realized, was one of the best things he’s ever had in months. The iced tea was refreshing on a hot summer day. His belly satisfied, Eric was set on returning home and paying Garry a visit.

“Alright, when I’m teaching about turbo dueling,” Garry said sternly, “there is no playing around. The first joke I hear from you will lead you out the door, understand?”

Eric nodded.

“Good. Here’s everything you need to know. I won’t repeat this so pay attention. This pedal is used to start your engine. The handles are used to control your acceleration. Pull it back to accelerate. Push forward to decelerate. There is a port where you can attach your duel disk to the runner and the empty platform is where you place it. Make sure that your deck is placed firmly in the deck slot on your left balancer so that you can easily draw while in a duel. This button is the autopilot key and works like a light switch. Your commands are voice activated so you don’t need to push any buttons while dueling. Finally, these pedals activate the overboost system when you need a short burst of speed. Do you understand everything?”

“I'm not going to get all this immediately. It’s going to take a while for this stuff to sink in. Can I go for a test drive?”

“Go ahead, but make sure you can control yourself while moving at an extreme speed. There are people who practice for years, but still can’t get used to the feeling. By the way, do you have any Speed Spells?”

“Yeah. I just bought some.”

Eric left the D.T. headquarters with a sense of accomplishment. He had learned how to ride and duel using a duel runner. However, it takes more than just the knowledge of how to use it. One must unite with the wind and the wind must flow through them. Eric will soon learn this.

As he neared Truesdale Town, he noticed a man in a dark cloak ripping up another duelist’s cards. He immediately stopped and attempted to punch the man, who avoided the attack and laughed.

“Are you challenging me, boy?”

“What are you doing!?” Eric demanded. “A person’s deck is where they place their heart and soul. How dare you destroy that bond?!”

“Who are you to lecture Conundrum? I beat this guy, so I can rip up his trash cards!"

"To call someone's cards trash, you must be the real piece of trash!" scolded Eric.

"Aw, is the little boy gonna act like a hero? Well, I challenge you to a turbo duel, seeing that you have a duel runner. If I win, I will tear up all of your cards, except the rare ones of course! Those I will be taking.”

"Are you," gulped Eric, "a Dark Chaser?"

"Ha! I'm Conundrum, the captain of the Dark group. You must be a member of D.T. Organization if you can tell that!"

"Shut up!" screamed Eric. "I am NOT part of that company!"

"Cool your balls!" laughed the Dark Chaser. "Are we gonna sit here arguing all day, or are we gonna duel?!"

“I will never allow you to destroy my precious friends! But to stop you, I accept! I will show you the power of our souls!”

The counter slowly decreased in number, an alarm indicated that the duel had begun once the counters reached 0.

“Field Spell Speed World 2 Activate! Turbo Duel, Acceleration!” both said at the same time.

[spoiler=Speed World 2]Both players gain 1 Speed Counter each Standby Phase. A player can activate the following effects during their Main Phase:

-Remove 4 counters to deal 800 points of damage to your opponent for each Speed Spell in your hand

-Remove 7 counters to draw 1 card

-Remove 10 counters to destroy 1 card on the field.

Both riders blasted forward along the highway, attempting to make the first curve before the other. Eric's eyes widened at the almost familiar feeling of the wind. This is exactly how I imagined it would be, he thought to himself. The wind, the speed, the rush, all of this is so thrilling. However, he was still unaccustomed to the control. Unable to fully maneuver his new vehicle, Eric slowed down in order to draw his starting hand. Conundrum passed the curve first and he made the first move.

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 1 Conundrum - 1

A small, black structure with twisting paths rose from the ground, keeping pace with Conundrum's duel runner.

“My turn!” Eric shouted, managing to draw a card without decelerating.

SPC: Eric - 2 Conundrum - 2

That monster could give me some trouble later on, he thought. I better destroy it now. “I summon Moonlight Boxer in attack mode!"

A moderately muscular man wearing protective gear and leather shorts appearing from a portal, running at a constant pace beside its master. Eric closed his eyes, trying to take in the feeling of summoning his first monster in his first turbo duel. He then glanced at his the cards in his hand, held by a slot near his deck, reading the effects carefully.

“I activate my Trap card Unknown Tribute!" announced the man with a wave of his arm.

A phantom in a thin, black cloak levitated from the activated Trap card, dispersing dark energy throughout Conundrum's field.

[spoiler=Unknown Tribute]Send 2 cards from your hand to your Graveyard face down.

"This card discards 2 cards from my hand face down. Now you can’t attack because you don’t know those 2 cards in my Graveyard. Since your attack was negated, my monster gains 500 ATK!”

The robed mage raised its staff and released a bright wave at the labyrinth. However, a barrier was formed and the attack vanished instantly.

“I set 1 card. Turn end!”

“My turn!” said Conundrum.

SPC: Eric - 0 Conundrum - 4

“I activate the Continuous Trap Dark Fog in the Maze!" laughed Eric's opponent.

From Conundrum's card, a black smoke drifted out and shrouded the maze.

[spoiler=Dark Fog in the Maze]If Dark Maze is on your side of the field, your opponent must name every card in your Graveyard to deal effect damage. If they cannot, negate the damage and increase Dark Maze’s ATK by 500.

"With this, I discard another card face down! Since you still can't call every card in my Graveyard, your Special Summon is negated and Dark maze gains 500 ATK!"

The maze glowed with an even greater darkness, almost chilling the air around the two duelists. (ATK-1500)

“Grrrrrrr. Turn end."

This, Eric thought, was a lot harder than I imagined. (…to be continued)

No one has posted this amazing crossover review yet? I guess it's up to me then!

[spoiler=|Audulation Divination Riffview|Growing Praise and Audulation Episode 18: Unity|Phantom's Divinations - Rex 012 Angelus|]

Welcome one, welcome all, to the most amazing review ever.

Why, you ask? Because this time, there won’t just be riffing. There won’t just be praises and adulations. And there won’t just be divinations. We’re combining anything and everything (almost, excluding crabs and electric mice) and making it into a spectacle to behold. This is…Divination Audulation Riffviews!…or something. I we decided to review this fine piece called Yu-Gi-Oh D.T., by Crimson Blaze. He writes for YCM, so I’ll assume it’s not exactly perfect.

We’ll start with a few words from the author.

This story is takes place several decades after Yu-Gi-Oh! 5d's. The setting is pretty much the same.

Daisuke: That’s tantamount to telling us this fic will be a complete rip-off of 5Ds and we should leave right now. My guess is that’s not what you were going for.

Roxas: It's going to be a standard 5D's The Next Generation. What matters is how this is apparently supposed to be different.

There are cities, highways connecting them, and large companies. The towns and cities that this story takes place in are rich and poor, almost what you see in today's society.

Daisuke: Only almost. In truth, today’s society is composed of a 3rd mystery circumstance of economic status.

The main characters are Eric Uchiha (Yes, the last name was inspired by Naruto and created when I was very young) and Garry Kenobi (Inspired by Star Wars; also created when I was younger). Eric is a talentless teenager who is a dueling genius.

Daisuke: Then he’s not talentless.

Dio: The author, on the other hand...too harsh?

Dr. Cakey: Well, he doesn’t have enough talent to think of changing terrible names to less terrible names.

Roxas: Is it really that hard to just come up with a surname or use a more common one?

He takes odd jobs and lives in an apartment. Garry is a teenager who has inherited his late father's company, D.T. Organization, which designs duel runners, duel disks, etc. The antagonists are the Dark Chasers, an evil group that duels people for their rare cards.

Daisuke: So not only did the author tell us who the antagonist organization is, he made them exactly like the “Rare Hunters”, except THEIR name made sense. Rare Hunters HUNT for RARE cards. What, do Dark Chasers…uh…chase DARK cards?

Dr. Cakey: The name probably comes from the Shadow Riders. Remember those guys? The vampire? That Amazon? Don Zaloog? Amnael? Somehow I think the Dark Chasers will be equally memorable.

Roxas: Except "Shadow Rider"" was a dub term, much like "Rare Hunter" was. Respectively, their Japanese names were Seven Stars Assassins and Ghouls. The of course there is the whole thing with the apparent namesake of this story being Garry's father's company, although it's "D.T. Organization." Did Organization XIII really inspire that many people to use "Organization" to refer to their obligatory evil groups?

They are very mysterious and serve an unknown (for now that is) boss. This is my first fanfic, so please give me constructive criticism and support.

Daisuke: I got one. Write better. No. I am serious. What is this “They are very mysterious” and “They serve an unknown (for now) boss” garbage? Don‘t blatantly tell us they’re mysterious, that’s just plain bad, and their boss being unknown makes no sense unless you are Sasuke Eric Uchiha, or Obi-Wan Gary Garry Kenobi and are in the story, and do not know the boss. But in that case you wouldn’t know if you’d meet him later on or not.

Dio: Constructive criticism. Right. Now, let me just make this clear-if this fic shows absolutely no hope of redemption, I'm turning this over to someone else.

Dr. Cakey: Here’s some advice. “They are very mysterious” is terrible. It’s telling the reader to be curious about them. Just by changing that line to something like “Very little is known about them”, you improve it – it’s still an info-dump, but it’s better…

…but you should cut all the story-related material here anyway, because at best it has no point and at worst it hurts the story. Needless to say, this isn’t best.

Roxas: If the boss is mysterious, then it's a given in these kinds of stories that we'll eventually discover their identity. These kinds of introductions are always unnecessary, because you give away what the plot of the story at the top of the thread, even though such a thing could be explained in the story. Yes, I known that if you pick up a novel and look at the back it often explains the plot to you, but it's still a good idea to not reveal so much.

Here is Chapter 1

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 1-Overdrive: The Story Begins

Roxas: How painfully generic, even though the "Overdrive" is unnecessary.

The man in the black cloak knocked the man down.

Dr. Cakey: No. Just no. Write that again.

Dio: Then he ran across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed.

Daisuke: Say what? This was so sudden. I mean, I don’t mind starting with action, but don’t start with bad action, and bad description. All we get from this is that there is a guy with a black cloak that knocked another guy down. Setting aside the fact I am more than sick of people in black cloaks being portrayed as evil, the action sucks, the closest I can picture is a playground bully pushing a faceless kid down.

Roxas: It's awkward to have two characters referred to as "the man", with the only difference being that the other is dressed in black. By establishing only that a man has pushed apparently another man down, we can't think of where this may be happening, or what either of them look like at all.

He had just finished another duel. He was good at dueling…always was. That’s why he joined the organization in the first place.

Roxas: I know people love to make Yu-Gi-Oh! jokes about Luxord, but this is absurd.

Dr. Cakey: He was good at dueling…always was. But dueling…changes people. Makes them put on…black cloaks. Sometimes they start to use ellipses…poorly.

It’s motto

Daisuke: It is motto. That is all.

-Change the world, everything begins with a small step. He was questioning whether he had made the right choice. Leaving his family for-what was it again? The fame? The power? The money?

Daisuke: Given the fact he already forgot, we can assume this is small foreshadow that he turns good later on. Or it could just be that this writer is a grade-school student that has seen a keyboard for the first time in his life and had the ingenious idea of writing on it. Except, wait, that would be a stupid idea.

Roxas: Alternatively, he became so obsessed with what he has become that he forgot the very thing that set him on the path. It's a pitiful attempt at establishing not!Luxord as deep.

The rogue duelist scanned the man’s deck, full of junk cards as always. Tossing away the “trash cards”, or so the group had called them, he rode into the black on his duel runner.

Dr. Cakey: K THEY CALL CARDS TRASH IM NOT SURE BUT I THINK THEY MIGHT BE VILLAINS BECAUSE A LOT OF YUGIOH VILLAINS CALL CARDS TRASH BUT IM NOT SURE

Daisuke: If they were trash, then you didn’t have to be good to beat them. This leads me to believe this Rare Hunter Dark Chaser actually sucks at dueling, so he duels homeless children to make himself look better and to be able to insult their cards when he himself runs a Celtic Guardian support deck.

Dio: "Full of junk cards as always" can also be read as, "This duelist beat up on this poor sucker multiple times, expecting to find different cards in the same deck."

Roxas: And yet he doesn't consider taking the entire deck in the off chance that some of his fellow Dark Chasers may have use for the cards? Or, you know, auction the cards online and laugh at the people paying so much for such "trashy" cards.

Bright in the morning

Daisuke: As opposed to dark in the morning. I think you were going for “Early in the morning”, or something along those lines.

the next day, Eric Uchiha, a 16-year-old teen,

Roxas: There are sixteen year-olds who aren't teenagers?

orphaned, strolled down to the local market, buying a bottle of iced tea as he did every other day. His employment was rather inconsistent, for he took any job he could find. He wasn’t the smartest kid in his class, at the bottom of the heap actually. Eric wasn’t strong, gifted, or kind. In fact, there wasn’t anyone who even ventured to form a friendship, much less a bond with him.

Dio: So he's RiRi?

But there was one thing he took seriously-dueling. It had always been his passion, riding down the lane, the wind rustling through his silky, black hair.

Daisuke: So apparently, in this universe, orphaned 16-year olds can apparently work at jobs that pay well enough for them to go to school, buy cards, a motorcycle, a place to live (assuming he lives with nobody, since if he did the author would have blatantly stated it) AND a bottle of iced tea every other day. And to think we’re stuck at 6 bucks an hour for minimum wage.

Dr. Cakey: Really? Minimum wage is higher over here. Although I believe the only way to pay your way through competitive-level Yugimonz is neurosurgery or pyramid schemes.

He was so confident, in fact, of his abilities that he accepted any duel proposed to him. Unfortunately, this would prove to be his downfall…

Daisuke: Wha- I…I can’t…no. Please, someone explain why this is…I can’t even find the words to express what I want to say clearly enough as to why that last sentence shouldn’t be there.

Dr. Cakey: Furthermore, I can tell from here it’s not going to be his downfall, because he’s going to win whatever duel is coming up.

Roxas: Of course he will. Yuma was established as a complete loser, and so Eric is intended to be an expy of him. I'm not sure if it's worse to base the protagonist on Judai or Yuma.

Eric was halfway done with his bottle when his landlord, Mark Glenston, passed by him. He never like his landlord and his landlord never liked him.

Dio: But now they gotta live together, on "The Odd Duelists!"

It wasn’t surprising since nobody did, but he was different.

Roxas: Unlike everyone else, Mark could see through Eric's ZETSUBOU.

He didn’t avoid him like the others. In fact, he constantly badgered him about his behavior, his rent, the works…but he enjoyed that.

Roxas: How dare Mark be doing his job!

He even considered him to perhaps be an acquaintance, no, like an older brother.

Roxas: We made the jump from "acquaintance" to "older brother"? How?

“Where’s my rent, Eric!?” yelled Glenston.

“You’ll get it when you need it, old man!” replied Eric.

“You youngsters never show any respect to your elders. No wonder nobody likes you,” said Glenston coolly as he brushed his graying hair back.

“Hmph! We’ll see who gets the last laugh,” Eric shot back.

“I’ll kick you out if I don’t get my money in ten days!” shouted Glenston.

Dio: So when did we start watching Spider-Man?

Daisuke: And thus Glenston gets the last laugh.

The two went their separate ways. Eric noticed a child crying on a park bench. He tried to forget about helping him but couldn’t help himself.

Daisuke: I thought he wasn’t kind?

Dr. Cakey: I guess Eric couldn’t live up to the being-a-complete-b**** expected of an Uchiha.

He walked over, took him by the hand, and bought him a vanilla ice-cream cone. It proved to be a suitable balm for upset children as the child stopped crying instantaneously.

Daisuke: Child: Mommy…*cries* my mommy died!

Eric: Here, ice cream!

Child: Ice cream! *instantaneously happy*

“What’s your name?” inquired Eric.

“I’m Hitari. And you are?”

Daisuke: Now, now, Timmy. Didn’t your mom ever teach you not to talk to strangers and accept ice cream and candy from them?

“Leaving. Go back to your mom, kid.”

“I can’t.”

“What do you mean you can’t?”

Daisuke: “She’s dead.”

Dio: ...Jim.

“She’s been captured by the Dark Chasers.”

“The Dark Chasers?”

“Yeah, they’re this gang that goes around and steals people’s rare cards after they beat them in a duel.”

Dr. Cakey: So the Dark Chasers steal rare cards…and they captured your mom…from this, I can conclude…your mother is a rare card?

Daisuke: Now that I think about it, it seems weird that that first Dark Chaser we saw dueled a guy with crappy cards (not to mention the fact he only seemingly noticed they were crappy after the duel) when Dark Chasers are after rare cards. Wow, maybe he really does run Celtic Guardian support…

“A duel gang, huh?”

“You’ve gotta help me!”

“I never refuse a challenge! Meet me here tonight, I’m gonna be ready to take those bastards down.”

Dio: WATCH THE LANGUAGE, MAN! He's just a kid!

Roxas: Never refuse a challenge, you say? Is that why you refuse to give Mark the money he requires of you, or do you not consider that a challenge?

The only problem is, he didn’t know what he would do. Sure he could beat them but what if they take his cards, especially his favorite, Lunar Knight? Either way, he made a promise and he intended to keep it.

Daisuke: I always find it funny when people describe their characters through the narrator instead of showing us how they are. But I find it hilarious when what that character does contradicts what the narrator says. Here we see Eric being very kind, and determined to help this unknown child who made him waste living money on ice cream. Yet the narrator says he wasn’t kind. So far all that matches is that he’s sure of himself when it comes to dueling. Except Eric’s an idiot because he’s not going to refuse a challenge that he himself is going to make to the Dark Chasers to get Timmy’s mom back.

At 12 o’clock sharp, Hitari arrived.

“Ready mister?”

“The name’s Eric, not mister. Got it?”

“Whatever you say, mister.”

Dr. Cakey: U C IT IS FUNY BCAS HE SAID HIS NAMES NOT MISTER BUT THE KID CALLED HIM MISTER ANYWAY

Daisuke: “Man, if I was Eric-as-described-by-narrator, I would so screw that kid’s face up!”

Eric snarled to the side and continued following the kid. Finally, they arrived at a small warehouse.

Daisuke: Why is it always a warehouse?

Dr. Cakey: The f*** is “snarling to the side”?

He could see that the lights were on and people were obviously inside. He peeked through the window and caught a glimpse of a large man wearing a black leather jacket. He was drinking with the rest of his gang. Despicable, thought Eric. Suddenly, he felt a push on his back. Without warning, Eric fell inside the building, with everyone staring at him.

“I got you another one, boss.”

“Good job, kid. Keep this up, and I just might make you my right-hand man,” laughed the large man.

Dio: "REALLY?!"

"No. Get back to work."

"Yes, sir."

Dr. Cakey: GENUINE PLOT TWIST! Silly, contrived plot twist, but a genuine silly, contrived plot twist.

And what about the man drinking with the rest of his gang makes him “despicable”? Were they drinking pureed puppy?

“What is this?” asked a puzzled Eric.

“You’ve been tricked, dumb-ass. I lured you here so we can rob you of that rare card we heard you had,” smirked Hitari.

Daisuke: …Why Timmy?! Why?!

But I got to give the author props, I was expecting the kid to be held hostage so Eric would be forced to duel in a Shadow game. Not for the talking-to-strangers thing to be reversed.

“I’m not giving in without a fight!” screamed Eric.

“Fine, but let me introduce myself. My name is Hammer, as in the one that’s gonna nail you down so hard, you’ll never see the morning light!”

Daisuke: GEDDIT?! BECAUSE HAMMERS HIT NAILS, AN- Yeah, no.

Roxas: Just "Hammer"? No "Captain"?

“Bring it on.”

Eric was led into a rusty stadium where he was forcefully pushed into the blue side.

“You should’ve run away when you had the chance.

Daisuke: He never had a chance.

Now, you’re gonna pay with your cards!”

“Duel!” both said simultaneously.

“I’ll start things off,” Hammer said arrogantly, “I summon Iron Knuckler in attack mode! (Iron Knuckler: Level 3/EARTH/Warrior/ATK-1600 DEF-1200/Effect-When this card attacks, you can Special Summon an “Iron” monster from your hand) Next, I play the Continuous Spell-Iron Pressure! (Iron Pressure: Each time an “Iron” monster is Special Summoned, deal 800 points of damage to your opponent) I’ll leave you with a card face down and a turn end!”

Dio: This would be a lot better if we knew what the guy sounded like.

Dr. Cakey: Put all the card details in spoilers instead of parentheses, plz

Roxas: Better yet, don't even include them. Captain Hitari Hammer is obviously going to explain the effects anyway, so it's pointless to include them. And for the record, the effects are also written in bold, which is just stupid.

“My turn!” Eric said as he drew a card, “I think you’re the one who’s gonna regret this.

Daisuke: No one said anything about regretting.

I summon Moon Samurai in attack mode! (Moon Samurai: Level 4/LIGHT/Warrior/ATK-1000 DEF-1600/Effect-When this card is Normal Summoned, you can discard one card from your hand to increase its ATK by 800) I discard a card to have Moon Samurai gain 800 ATK! Moon Samurai, attack Iron Knuckler!” Moon Samurai charged at Iron Knuckler, who threw a punch that was skillfully avoided, and slashed it in half.

“Grr..,” grunted Hammer.

Daisuke: A “grr” isn’t really a grunt, but, meh, I’ve seen worse.

Dr. Cakey: I can already tell these “Moon” monsters are so terrible, I want Hammer to win already, just because Iron Knuckler and Iron Pressure are decent cards.

(4000/3800)

“Turn end.”

Daisuke: He’s leaving an 1800 ATK monster, who is now a Vanilla, without any support. Yeah, it’s going to die.

“My turn!” vented Hammer, “I activate the Spell card Iron Cycle! (Discard one “Iron” monster to Special Summon one from the Graveyard) Revive, Iron Knuckler!

Roxas: Shouldn't Iron Pressure activate right now?

Now, I summon Iron Gloves in attack mode! (Iron Gloves: Level 2/EARTH/Machine/ATK-0 DEF-1000/Effect: This card can only be summoned when there is a Warrior monster on your field. Once per turn, you can equip or unequip this card to a monster. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK) Iron Knuckler, attack Moon Samurai!”

Dio: You gotta give credit for the guy describing the cards fairly accurately. Seems to be about the only sensible thing in this story.

Dr. Cakey: You know he never actually equipped Gloves to Knuckler?

Iron Knuckler charged at Moon Samurai, who blocked with his katana, only to have it shattered, and jabbed through his chest.

Daisuke: His shattered katana was stabbed through his chest?

Roxas: I think that the shard that came off from the katana spun through the air and hit Moon Samurai. At least, that's what I think is supposed to be going on here. Either way, it's an incredibly embarrassing way to die.

Eric scowled. (3700/3800) “Since Iron Knuckler attacked, I Special Summon Iron Pirate in attack mode. (Iron Pirate: Level 2/EARTH/Warrior/ATK-1000 DEF-900/Effect-When this card deals damage to your opponent, gain Life Points equal to twice the damage)

Daisuke: If I may, it doesn’t say battle damage, so if it attacks directly, you gain 2000 life points. Just sayin.

Dr. Cakey: I’m going to have to break in here and point out that damage from a direct attack is also Battle Damage.

Now, you take 800 from Iron Pressure! (2900/3800) Iron Pirate, direct attack!”

Iron Pirate stabbed Eric in the gut and jumped back with a sack of treasure.

“Aaaah!” yelped Eric. (1900/5800)

“Turn end.”

“My turn!” Eric said as he gritted his teeth, “I summon Tuner monster Lunar Soul! (Lunar Soul: Level 2/LIGHT/Psychic/ATK-0 DEF-0/Effect: When this card is summoned, you can play a Trap card from your hand)

Daisuke: If he had a trap card in his hand, why not just set it last turn and save this effect to use for another time? Genius at dueling my ass.

I activate Soul Resurrection! (Special Summon a level 4 or lower Light monster from your Graveyard) Come back, Moon Samurai! The shining moon guides all to greatness. Glisten brightly in your destiny! Synchro Summon! Sparkle, Lunar Knight! (Lunar Knight: Level 6/LIGHT/Warrior/ATK-1800 DEF-1400/Effect-This card can attack until your opponent controls no monsters. This card gains 100 ATK for each monster in your Graveyard) “Ha! Are you stupid? You summon a weak Synchro monster with only 2000 ATK? What a joke!”

Daisuke: And that can attack until you have no monsters. And that, in a Synchro deck, can get attack pretty damn quickly.

Dr. Cakey: Lunar Knight + Half Shut. umad?

Also, why would Hammer call Lunar Knight weak if it’s the rare card he wants to steal (and obviously it is, because it’s a Synchro Monster, and this is 5D’s.)

laughed Hammer and the rest of the gang. “Don’t be too sure, that card I discarded earlier was the Trap card Late Offering. (If this card is in your Graveyard, you can remove it from play to send 2 monsters from your hand to your Graveyard)

Daisuke: (I can’t be the only one getting tired of parentheses. I’d rather the players speak out loud what the effect is, at least it keeps up with the mood.)

Dr. Cakey: (Wow, Late Offering is terribad. Why not just use something like Hand Destruction?)

And I just so happen to have 2 monsters. Now it has a total ATK of 2200! Lunar Knight, attack Iron Knuckler, Shining Lance! (1900/5700)”

“My Iron Gloves protect it from being destroyed!”

“Too bad, because my knight can attack until you have nothing left!

Daisuke: As the parentheses said. Why must we be subject to them in the first place when the players have great opportunities to tell us the effects as they use them against their opponent? Is it just because it’s easier to copy/paste the effects onto the Word document than working it into dialogue?

Attack Iron Knuckler again! Shining Lance! (1900/5100) Now go for Iron Pirate! (1900/3900) I set 1 card face down! Turn end!”

Daisuke: Shame, they were destroyed so quickly, we didn’t even get to see a glimpse of them go down. Good thing the guy still has one 1 card face down.

“You’ll pay for that!” threatened Hammer, “My turn! I activate the Trap card Monster Drainer! (Draw 2 cards for each monster you discard) I discard 1 monster! Heh! You’re in for it now! I play the Spell card Magical Calling! (Pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from your deck) I summon Iron Twins! (Iron Twins: Level 4/EARTH/Warrior/ATK-1800 DEF-600/ Effect: You can tribute this card to Special Summon 2 Iron Twin Tokens: Level 2/ EARTH/Warrior/ATK-900 DEF-300) You take 800 from Iron Pressure!”

“I activate Damage Reverse! (All effect damage you would take this turn is dealt to your opponent instead)” (1900/3100)

“No matter! I sacrifice Iron Twins to summon 2 Iron Twin Tokens! (1900/1500) I then sacrifice the tokens to tribute summon Iron Hammerer! (Iron Hammerer: Level 7/EARTH/Warrior/ATK-3000 DEF-2800/Effect-When this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Trap cards. If this card attacks a defense position monster, deal piercing damage) Iron Hammerer, attack Lunar Knight! Colossal Slam!”

Dio: This is something we haven't seen before-something that genuinely reads like something from Yu-Gi-Oh. THE WORLD'S GONE MAD!

Dr. Cakey: Yeah, but his math’s off. Hammer had 3900 Life Points, then he played Magical Calling, so he paid 1000 more. Then he took 800 damage from Damage Reverse from Damage Reverse, so he has 2100, not 3100. Then of course he takes another 800 when he summons the Iron Twin Tokens, so he’d be at 1300.

Iron Hammerer lifted its humongous hammer and crushed Lunar Knight. (1100/1500)

“Turn end. Heheheh!”

Dr. Cakey: You can see here the math errors have been compounded. Here, he didn’t pay the 1000 for Magical Calling, as before, but he also took 800 damage for each Iron Twin Token, even though their summon was simultaneous and he’d only take the damage once.

“My turn!” shouted Eric, still beaming with confidence, “I will defeat you. And your demise all starts with this one card.

Daisuke: His demise? Wasn’t this a normal card game, not a Shadow game?

Roxas: Not to mention it's the protagonist who's saying this, not that it makes much of a difference at this point.

I activate the Quick Spell Time Revolution. (Special Summon up to 3 monsters from your Graveyard. This turn, you cannot summon any more monsters or attack) Return, Moon Samurai, Moonlight Boxer, and Flash Gunner Luna! (Flash Gunner Luna: Level 3/LIGHT/Spellcaster/ATK-1300 DEF-200/ Effect: You can tribute 1 monster to deal 500 points of damage to your opponent) Do the math!

Dio: Do I HAVE to?

I tribute my 3 monsters to deal you a grand total of 1500 points of damage!”

Dio: Aparrently not, since he did it himself. THANKS, WRITER!

“What!? Impossible!” screeched Hammer in shock.

Daisuke: No it’s not, silly Mr.Hammer.

“Dueling takes more than just rare cards,” lectured Eric, “You need to be in sync with them. Know their hearts as they know yours. Finish him.”

Daisuke: The sociopath is now trying to give us a lecture on the heart of the cards. Wonderful.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” (1100/0)

Daisuke: I preferred when duelists didn’t scream like they were dying after losing.

Dr. Cakey: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigNo

That’s all I got.

Dr. Cakey: I’m trying to think of an evil in the Yu-Gi-Oh world great enough that it wouldn’t immediately surrender because it lost a duel. I can’t think of one. That’s how evil these guys are. Which reminds me…

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvenEvilHasStandards

Daisuke: And we’re finally done. I must say, this wasn’t bad, but it reads too much like a novice work. Granted, this was the author’s first fic, but I really cannot comprehend how he could read through this and find it captivating. I do congratulate him, as he seems to have used spellcheck, but he might have missed a few things while proofreading, if he did in fact proofread. He still needs more experience before tackling any real big fic, which I think this tries to be. I myself might read more if there was more show and less tell, and if it wasn’t a dueling fic. Those are always boring, I don’t care how agonizing the bad guy’s scream is when he loses.

Dio: It's meh.

Roxas: I might revisit this because the plot is at least somewhat interesting, but I don't see this turning into something spectacular unless the writing improves.

Dr. Cakey: I told you he’d win.

You are very correct about many things. You see, I have the whole story in my head, but I have trouble conveying it to readers. I don't exactly know what to tell and what not to tell. When I read through it, I can imagine everything that is happening because I envisioned it, but it is probably very difficult for others. As for the characters, I can understand why you would find their names strange, but the only thing I can ask of you is to bear with me. Sometimes, my math and custom card effects can be incorrect, so I will try to proofread better. Thank you for going such lengths to give me suggestions for my future works. I really appreciate it and will take your comments to heart. However, one problem I have with these critiques is that you give them after only reading the first chapter.

I think Phantom Roxas might be a bit harsh, but he's giving plenty of good advice. Like I said before, the only way I can suggest to get better is to get a sense of what a good story consists of by reading and noting the good elements of other good stories and then go at it through trial and error until you develop something you consider satisfying enough to meet the prerequisites. My important finals are out of the way so I could probably review these sometime tomorrow or Friday.

;D

Anyway, you are definitely right, Blaze. Reviewing only the first chapter gives us a limited view of the fic. BUT Crab has also reviewed a lot of second chapters with the promises of betterment. There was not betterment often.

Yes, I am currently in the process of editing my posted chapters to make them easier to read and understand. I won't post anything new until I am satisfied with how the other chapters are. As for the story, I am afraid that I can't change what I have in mind because this is MY story, not that of others. If I seek to improve, I plan on doing so through experience, not plagiarism.

I think you're my favorite person of those we reviewed blindly.

I think I'll actually check back here when you post more chapters, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

Thank you so much! That means a lot to me. I'll try to fix my current chapters sooner and put up more chapters. Hope I don't disappoint.

I am finished editing my previous chapters, so, as promised, here is Chapter 8.

[spoiler=Chapter 8]

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 8: Puzzle Solved, Rise of the Crescent Moon

The man in the black cloak strolled around the trash-filled streets, following a renowned power duelist. While stalking the man on his duel runner, the Dark Chaser general waited for a chance to reveal his suspicion. He had already gained 2 of the 6. All he needed was three more. If his hunch was right, the man he was watching has a Signer dragon, most likely that one. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a duelist using a black duel runner shaped like a bird drove in and challenged the power duelist to a duel. Without a doubt, thought the man, the duelist in the black runner would win, since he most likely used a Blackwing deck. Once the duel began, he turned out to be correct when the duelist on the ebony vehicle Synchro Summoned Black-Winged Dragon. To counter that, the power duelist summoned Red Dragon Archfiend. The man in the cloak smiled. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, he thought. He drove in between them, interrupting their current game and offering to duel them both at once under the following condition: the losing team surrenders their rarest card. Of course, the two accepted and offered their dragons. After all, the black-cloaked duelist had offered to duel with only 100 Life Points and wagered 2 cards. Those two duelists had no idea what they were in for.

At the same time, Eric's duel on the highway towards Truesdale Town continued.

“It’s my turn!” shouted Conundrum.

SPC: Eric - 3 Conundrum - 7

“I summon Hidden Sacrifice General in attack mode!"

A dark, shadowing figure enshrouded in a thick mist appeared beside him, floating ominously.

[spoiler=Hidden Sacrifice General]Level 1

DARK/Fiend

ATK-0 DEF-0

You can return this card to your hand to send 1 card from your deck to the Graveyard face down.

"Using my monster's effect, I return it to my hand to send a card from my deck to the grave, face down that is. Turn end.”

“My turn,” Eric said, troubled by his massive disadvantage.

SPC: Eric - 4 Conundrum - 8

"I activate the Speed Spell Energy Collect!"

[spoiler=Energy Collect]If you have 4 or more Speed Counters, you can draw 1 card and discard 1 card from your hand to your Graveyard.

"Since I have more than 4 Speed Counters, I can draw, then discard a card. I discard the Speed Spell Flash of Light to draw!"

If I need to get out of this situation, he thought to himself, I need to get Complete Shutdown. Eric plucked the card from his hand and slid it smoothly into his Graveyard slot. He then placed his index finger over his deck, hoping to draw the right card. He flung his arm to the side and glanced at the card he had drawn, closing his eyes in disappointment.

[spoiler=Flash of Light]You can remove 8 Speed Counters to have 1 monster your opponent control’s ATK become 0 until the End Phase. That monster cannot be destroyed in battle.

"I activate my Trap card Moon’s Ray of Giving!" he said, determined to win.

[spoiler=Moon's Ray of Giving]You can discard 1 card from your hand to draw 1 card for each card on your opponent’s side of the field.

"This card lets me discard 1 card and draw the same amount of times as the number of cards you control! I discard the Tuner monster Dense Moon to draw 3 cards!"

An artificial moon descended from the sky, shining a beam of light at Eric's duel runner. Intently studying his hand, Eric failed to see an abrupt turn and smashed into the stone wall. He immediately shifted to the side and kicked off the wall, staring embarrassingly at the scratched front of his new duel runner. Ignoring his opponent's senseless giggling, Eric stepped on his pedals, blasting forward and catching up to him.

[spoiler=Dense Moon]Level 2

LIGHT/Psychic

ATK-100 DEF-200

If this card is in your Graveyard during your End Phase, you gain 500 Life Points.

"I set 2 cards. Turn end. I gain 500 at the End Phase due to Dense Moon’s effect!”

Eric leaned back, a frown revealing his dissatisfaction of not being about to counter Conundrum's strategy. Glitter fell from above his vehicle and faded as it reached the ground.(4500/4000)

“My turn,” said Conundrum.

SPC: Eric - 5 Conundrum - 9

"I activate the Speed Spell Magnetic Pulse!"

[spoiler=Magnetic Pulse]If you have at least 1 Speed Counter, you can add 1 Speed Spell from your deck to your hand for each Speed Counter you have.

"Since I have 9 Speed Counters, I can add 9 Speed Spells to my hand! I now activate the effect of Speed World 2! I remove 4 counters to deal you 7200 points of damage!"

SPC: Eric - 5 Conundrum - 5

“I activate my Trap card Damage Reverse!" shouted Eric, glad to have drawn something that was useful last turn.

[spoiler=Damage Reverse]All effect damage you would take this turn is dealt to your opponent instead.

“I activate the effect of Dark Fog in the Maze!" smiled Conundrum. "You still can't name every card in my Graveyard, so the damage is negated and Dark Maze gains 500 ATK!"

Eric watched in frustration as the maze's ATK rose higher. (ATK-2000)

"Turn end," his enemy declared. "Because I exceeded the limit of 6 cards in my hand, I discard these 3 cards.”

“My turn!” Eric announced, failing yet again to draw what he needed.

SPC: Eric - 6 Conundrum - 6

"I summon the Tuner monster Moonlight Guard in defense mode!"

The armored knight bearing a large, silver shield knelt beside Moonstar Dragon, floating gently alongside Eric.

[spoiler=Moonlight Guard]Level 3

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-0 DEF-2000

If your opponent’s monster attacks this card, all of your opponent’s monsters’ effects are negated. As long as every monster in your Graveyard is LIGHT attribute, this card cannot be destroyed in battle.

"I activate Speed World 2’s effect! I remove 4 counters to deal you 800 points of damage for this Speed Spell in my hand!"

SPC: Eric - 2 Conundrum - 6

“I have no idea why you still try. I activate Dark Fog in the Maze!" chuckled Conundrum wickedly.

Once again, the dark structure's ATK was elevated, nearly to a point matching that of Moonstar Dragon. (ATK-2500)

“Turn end. I gain 500 due to Dense Moon's effect again!"

Another beam of moonlight struck Eric from behind, illuminating his vehicle. Noticing that he could no longer see his cards, Eric looked up to find the real moon, shining brightly in the night sky. He fumbled around his right balancer, turning on his headlight once he found the switch. The moon still stands, he said to himself. So will I! (5000/4000)

“My turn!" Conundrum snickered.

SPC: Eric - 3 Conundrum - 7

"This is the fun part of dueling! Seeing the great scowl on your opponent’s face! The look of fear in their eyes! The fear that their precious cards will be torn to shreds! Let me tell you this! I have never been defeated before! Not once, except for a draw with my general! He was amazing! He could duel circles around you! Continuing with the duel, I activate Speed World 2’s effect! I remove 4 counters to deal you 4800 points of damage!”

SPC: Eric - 3 Conundrum - 3

He turned his vehicle around to face his opponent. From a point at the front, a bolt of surging lightning shot out, heading towards Eric.

"Grrr. You leave me with no choice! I remove Moonlight Condenser from my Graveyard to negate the damage and destroy 1 monster on the field! Say goodbye to Dark Maze!”

From Eric's Graveyard, a spellcaster dressed in a yellow robe appeared, absorbing the lightning into its staff and reflecting it at Conundrum. Taken by complete surprise, he skidded to the side, bumping into Eric's duel runner. As they neared an abrupt curve, both duelists regained control of their vehicles and safely passed.

“I set 1 card," panted Eric's adversary, bitter about his plan failing. "Turn end! You know this is hopeless for you!”

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 4 Conundrum - 4

"You said that you were at a level equal to a general? Generals are the highest rank among you, aren’t they? That means that if I can beat you, I can also take on a general! Guess I'll have to do it then! Moonstar Dragon, direct attack! Emanating Pulsar!”

“I activate my Trap card Maze Resurrection!" grinned Conundrum.

[spoiler=Maze Resurrection]Remove from play 1 monster with “Maze” in its name and Special Summon another one from your deck

"With this card, I can remove from play the maze in my Graveyard to summon another Dark Maze from my deck!”

“Moonstar Dragon, attack!" shouted Eric, consumed in anger.

"The attack is negated and Dark Maze gains 500 ATK!"

"I get the point!" screamed Eric.

Conundrum raised an eyebrow as his monster's ATK rose slightly. (ATK-500)

"Turn end. I gain 500 from Dense Moon."

The beam shined on Eric again, revealing an unappealing scowl on his face. (5500/4000)

“There is nothing left in your deck that can stop me now, right? Now let me tear those 'friends' of yours apart! My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 5 Conundrum - 5

"I activate the effect of Speed World 2! I remove 4 counters to deal you 4800 points of damage!”

SPC: Eric - 5 Conundrum - 1

“Arrrrrgggggghhh!” yelled Eric, as his duel runner spun wildly upon being struck by a flash of lightning. Further infuriated, Eric slammed his foot on his pedals, bursting at full speed towards his opponent. (700/4000)

“I set 1 card. Turn end!”

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 6 Conundrum - 2

"I activate the effect of Speed World 2! I remove 4 counters to deal you 1600 points of damage for these 2 Speed Spells!”

SPC: Eric - 2 Conundrum - 2

“It’s futile!" laughed his giddy opponent. "I activate Dark Fog in the Maze!"

Slowly, Dark Maze's ATK increased, much to Eric's disapproval. (ATK-1000)

“I activate the Speed Spell Maximum Boost!" continued Eric.

[spoiler=Maximum Boost]If you have the same number of Speed Counters as your opponent, you can double the number of counters you have.

"I haven't been idiotically trying to inflict damage. The reason for my use of Speed World 2 up to now was for this card! Since we have the same number of Speed Counters, mine are doubled, giving me a total of 4 Speed Counters!"

SPC: Eric - 4 Conundrum - 2

"I then activate the Speed Spell Synchro Blast Draw!"

[spoiler=Synchro Blast Draw]If you have 4 or more Speed Counters, you can draw 1 card each time a Synchro monster attacks this turn.

"Moonstar Dragon, attack!”

“I seriously don't get how you stupid hobos think! I activate Dark Maze’s effect! The attack is negated and it gains 500 ATK!"

Eric's expression suddenly changed from a depressed one, to one of content. (ATK-1500)

“I draw 1 card due to Synchro Blast Draw's effect!"

Not it! I still don't have it!

"I set 1 card! Turn end! Now, I gain 500 Life Points!"

Conundrum watched Eric through the beam of light with a confused-looking face as he rode beside him, smiling as if he had something in mind.(1200/4000)

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 5 Conundrum - 3

"I activate my Continuous Trap card Maze Barrier!" he stated, trying to avoid all risks.

[spoiler=Maze Barrier]Monsters with “Maze” in its name cannot be destroyed once per turn.

"I now activate the Speed Spell Power Blast!"

[spoiler=Power Blast]Discard any number of cards from your hand to deal 200 points of damage for each card sent to the Graveyard.

"With this Spell, I discard 6 cards to deal a total of 1200 points of damage!”

“I activate my Trap card Double Spy!" countered Eric.

[spoiler=Double Spy]Negate all damage received this turn. You can Special Summon a Level 3 monster from your hand.

As a surge of red energy was launched at Eric, a ninja jumped from his Trap and was hit by it. By sacrificing itself, it was able to save its master. Thank you, Eric said to his card mentally.

"I don’t have any cards in my hand so I can’t summon a monster.”

“Sheesh! Turn end!” whined Conundrum.

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 6 Conundrum - 4

"I summon the Tuner monster Lunar Wing in defense mode!"

A fairly large bird appeared from behind a portal, shielding itself with its small wings.

[spoiler=Lunar Wing]Level 1

LIGHT/Winged-Beast

ATK-0 DEF-0

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can draw 1 card.

"When this card is summoned, I draw 1 card! I activate Speed World 2’s effect and remove 4 counters to deal 800 points of damage for this Speed Spell!”

SPC: Eric - 2 Conundrum - 4

“Don’t you ever learn, kid? I activate Dark Fog in the Maze! Dark Maze gains 500 ATK!"

The blast of electricity shot from Eric's duel runner entered the fog and disappeared without a trace. (ATK-2000)

“Moonstar Dragon, attack!”

“I activate Dark Maze's effect! I think you know what happens by now."

The maze's ATK rose to a point matching the previous one before it was destroyed. (ATK-2500)

“I activate the Speed Spell Energy Recycle!" shouted Eric, still confident he can win.

[spoiler=Energy Recycle]Remove 2 Spell counters to add 1 Speed Spell from your Graveyard to your hand without showing your opponent.

SPC: Eric - 0 Conundrum - 4

"Due to this card's effect, I add a Speed Spell from my Graveyard to my hand. With that, I'm done. Turn end! But don't forget my Life Point boost!"

The glowing sphere shined a ray of moonlight at Eric, replenishing his Life Points. (1700/4000)

“My turn!" said Conundrum, watching his hand disapprovingly.

SPC: Eric - 1 Conundrum - 5

"I set 1 card! Turn end!”

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 2 Conundrum - 6

"I summon Moonlight Prince by removing Vanishing Moon from my Graveyard!"

[spoiler=Moonlight Prince]Level 5

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-1500 DEF-300

You can Special Summon this card from your hand by removing 1 LIGHT attribute monster in your Graveyard from play.

The grand being dressed in bright, sophisticated attire stepped onto the field through a door.

Should I negate the summon now, or should I wait until he Synchro Summons? Conundrum thought to himself.

"I guess that means you won't negate it?" Eric asked.

"That's right, I won't negate it," announced his opponent, confident that he had avoided another trap.

"Very well. I'm tuning my level 5 Moonlight Prince with my level 1 Lunar Wing. The shining moon guides all to greatness. Glisten brightly in your destiny! Synchro Summon! Sparkle, Lunar Knight!"

The gallant warrior dressed in radiant armor emerged from a radiant light. Pulling out its sword, the knight took a battle stance.

[spoiler=Lunar Knight]1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner

Level 6

LIGHT/Warrior

ATK-1800 DEF-1400

This card can attack until your opponent controls no monsters. This card gains 100 ATK for each monster in your Graveyard.

"I'm not falling for your trick!" smiled Conundrum arrogantly. "I know you want me to negate it, so I won't!"

"I have 7 monsters in my Graveyard so my knight gains 700 ATK, making its total 2500! Moonstar Dragon and Lunar Knight attack Dark Maze!”

“I have a different approach in beating you! I activate the Continuous Trap card Magical Black Force!"

[spoiler=Magical Black Force]Each time your monster changes ATK points, your opponent loses 500 Life Points.

"Each time my monster's ATK changes, you take 500 points of damage! Also, Dark Fog in the Maze activates twice, inflicting you with 1000 points of damage!"

Eric watched his monsters miss their target as the maze grew even stronger.(ATK-3500)

Following the increase in power, Conundrum's Trap card launched a bolt of black lightning at Eric, passing through his chest. (700/4000)

“Turn end," stated Eric, emotionless.

His opponent rolled his eyes as the repetitive gaining of Life Points took place. (1200/4000)

“My turn!"

SPC: Eric - 3 Conundrum - 7

"I activate the effect of Speed World 2! I remove 4 counters to deal you 800 points of damage for this Speed Spell!" he said, revealing a green card.

SPC: Eric - 3 Conundrum - 3

Once again, Eric was struck with a blast of lightning from Conundrum's duel runner. (400/4000)

"Turn end.”

Come on, Eric thought, I need that card right now. It all comes down to this. “My….” Eric said as he pulled a card from his deck. “TURN!"

SPC: Eric - 4 Conundrum - 4

"I activate the Speed Spell Maximum Boost!" smiled Eric. "I hope you remember what this does. Since our number of Speed Counters are equal, mine are doubled!"

SPC: Eric - 8 Conundrum - 4

"So what if you can use Speed World 2's effect twice? All that will do is make my monster stronger!" boasted Eric's enemy.

"I won't be using that effect! I activate my Trap card Moon Energy Release!"

[spoiler=Moon Energy Release]Tribute 1 LIGHT attribute monster to have another LIGHT attribute monster gain half of its ATK points. When that monster attacks a defense position monster, it can change it to attack position.

"I tribute my Lunar Knight to have my Moonstar Dragon gain half of its ATK, a total of 4050!"

Disappearing in a flash of light, Lunar Knight empowered Moonstar Dragon, blanketing it with a cloak of sparkling light.

"I then activate the Speed Spell Complete Shutdown!"

[spoiler=Complete Shutdown]Remove 8 Speed Counters to negate the effects of all cards on your opponent's side field. The ATK of all monsters on your opponent's side of the field become their original ATK. No cards can be played or activated until each player’s next Standby Phase.

"This card negates all effects on your field and prevents us from activating cards until our next Standby Phases. But it’s too bad that you won’t have a next Standby Phase, or a next turn for that matter! Moonstar Dragon, attack Dark Maze! Due to Moon Energy Release’s effect, I can change the position of a defense position monster it attacks to attack position and make it so that its ATK is back to its original!"

"But my monster's original ATK is....." complained Conundrum as he checked his card, his eyes widening in despair, "...0."

"That's right! That means you lose! Finish it, Emanating Pulsar!”

Glowing more brightly than ever, Moonstar Dragon flew in the air and shot an immense blast of phosphoric light energy that completely obliterated the maze. (400/0)

“BUT I NEVER LOSE!” shouted Conundrum as his duel runner stopped automatically and emitted large amounts of smoke. Eric stopped next to him.

“I’m looking forward to seeing you in jail, Conundrum.”

“You’ll never catch me alive! Just because you beat me doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you want with me!” laughed the man in conceit.

“That’s too bad. A police officer has been trailing us for the entire duel. The law is that criminals can only be arrested by a government worker who has won or supervised a duel with them. Creating havoc and destroying private property is considered a federal offense. You lost in the duel and in life. I hope you make better decisions when you are released from prison.”

“YOU’LL PAY FOR THIS!” he screamed at the top of his lungs as he was being dragged away. He watched in horror as his deck and duel runner were confiscated by Sector Security.

Though Eric had won, he had realized that Conundrum was incredibly difficult to defeat. If that was how a duelist under a general could duel, he thought, then how did the general himself duel? The thought shook him hard. With every victory against the Dark Chasers, Eric made more enemies. Despite the fact that Eric refused to work at D.T. Corporation, he felt as if he were already deeply involved in the mysterious duel gang organization. Eric drove home with a disturbed state of mind.

Meanwhile, Garry examined the data from the duel via his desktop. One reason he had the duel runner he gave Eric custom made was so that he could view everywhere he was going and every opponent he faced. He knew that Eric was a capable duelist, but wasn’t sure if he could handle the top authority of the Dark Chasers. He turned around on his swivel chair and looked down upon the city. Garry realized that this world, peaceful again for 20 years, will soon face a new threat. He didn’t like it, but the world needed a new set of heroes. They needed the courage that Yugi Mutou had when defeating the Leviathan. They needed the cunning of Jaden Yuki, who rescued the world from the carnage of the monster Yubel. Most of all, they needed the belief that Yusei Fudo, the legendary turbo dueling king, had shown in his commitment and duty to keep the world safe. This was no supernatural event that could be solved with a single duel. This was reality. Sometimes, reality is scarier than what we ought to think is scary. The Dark Chasers are a potential threat to the survival of civilization. They are a despicable crime organization seeking power and control over the whole globe. There is but 1 hope: D.T. Corporation. The company, which Garry believed to be an heirloom of the Kenobi family, holds the key to protecting the world from the Dark Chasers. (…to be continued)

ive thoroughly enjoyed this fan fic. by far one of my faves. i would like to know have you created the cards for this series on ycm?

keep up the great work and i look forward to seeing more.

+1 rep for good writing

Oh, thank you! I did make Garry's deck, but had much difficulty finding images for Eric's cards, so I pretty much stopped at that. I made deck lists for the main characters, but had to add some situational cards along the way, so I will never really be able to complete the set. Thanks for the rep!

Seeing how great these results were, I would like to thank Phantom Roxas, Dr. Cakey, Dio, Daisuke, and everyone else who gave me such helpful suggestions. Here is Chapter 9. Enjoy!

[spoiler=Chapter 9]

Yu-Gi-Oh! D.T.

Chapter 9-Great Misfortune, Who is the Thief?

The man in the black cloak walked to his duel runner holding a card in his hand. He smiled cruelly as he examined his newly won Signer dragon: the Ancient Fairy Dragon. As soon as he had beaten the adolescent who previously owned the card, he had made a call to his boss, who praised him and asked him to return to the headquarters immediately. Though this was false show of appreciation, the man was unable to refuse his leader's command, especially when he, if it is a "he" at all, was so eager to lay his hands on the five dragons. He snorted and hopped on his duel runner. Leaning forward, the general stomped on his pedals, blasting across the highway. Driving at an extremely fast speed, he was unafraid of the world of the wind, almost as though he could join with the wind in harmony. He loved the rush on his face, the cool gales that ran through him. As he crossed a turn, the man wondered if all turbo duelists felt the same way. It had been his dream since he was a child to own a duel runner. However, his mother forbid it, fearing the risk of getting into an accident, perhaps even killing himself. Although turbo dueling was a worldwide sport, the chances of injuring or killing oneself were still unbelievable. Breaking off the thought of his parents, he accelerated forward and shot into the horizon of the setting sun.

In a narrow passageway reinforced with steel walls, a burglar skillfully evaded the security cameras and dodged the infrared lasers. She jumped past the trap holes and deactivated flamethrowers set up in the highly guarded hall. At the end, the black-suited thief came upon a door protected by a device that scanned a visitor's fingerprints, releasimg some kind of defense mechanism if the fingerprints did not match. Frustrated by this obstacle, she placed a circular machine over the scanner and placed her thumb over it, wincing in pain as a needle was injected. At the price of her own blood, the woman's device automatically opened the door. Carefully wiping her blood with a handkerchief, the thief marched into a room reinforced with two layers of titanium. Standing in the center of the dimmed room was a glass case, containing the item she had been seeking. The thief smiled as she took the case, imagining the glory she could achieve with the object inside it. Thinking that she was in the clear, the brunette carelessly stepped out of the corridor for her escape. However, she suddenly heard the footsteps of a man was walking by. I will knock that guy out, she thought, and take his wallet and ID. Enthusiastic about completing her quest, she charged in for a high jump kick.

Instantly aware of her presence, Garry evaded the assault and twisted her arm around her back.

“Who are you!?” he demanded.

Shocked at her adversary's reflexes, she desperately threw down a sleeping gas bomb. Not willing to let the thief escape, Garry jumped out of the gas and stood alert for any sign of movement. When the gas cleared, there was no one in sight. He then noticed a hole in the roof. Damn, he thought. That's the oldest trick in the book. Disturbed by the theft of his father's keepsake, he activated the alarm and sent a group of security guards to find her. Puzzled by a stained handkerchief on the floor, Garry turned around and saw her contraption. He took it and examined it for any fingerprints. Seeing as there weren’t any, he took it to his study where he immediately took it apart to check for clues as to who built it. It was a simple code cracker that used the plasma in the blood to transmit a wave of energy that instantly inserts the right code into the system. Garry didn’t report this incident to the police, having been hoodwinked by them in a scenario he did not wish to remember. Nowadays, the influence of the Dark Chasers was so great that they have spies in every location of every city. For all he knew, even policemen could be working for the Dark Chasers. At that point, he realized what the thief might also have been. What she stole was his most valuable card, the Terra Force Dragon. Though the category it belonged in was still unclear, many believed it to be one of the Signer dragons used by Team 5d's, as suggested by a renowned scientist who had discovered a tablet with carved pictures of those creatures in a ruin located in South America. Having been a childhood friend of that researcher, Garry's father had made a promise to keep its power from falling into the wrong hands, a promise that will be passed to the future generations in the Kenobi bloodline.

Determined to have the card back in his possession, Garry hacked into the Sector Security mainframe to match the blood type. To his dismay, her blood type was O, the most common blood type in the world. He knew that criminals usually didn't leave the city until Sector Security had given up on the search, which would be in about 1 week. That meant that he had 1 week to find and reclaim his father’s card. In this crisis, it looked like Garry was going to need “his” help.

The next day, he called Eric to report his crisis.

“Terra Force Dragon!? Isn’t that one of the Signer dragons?” Eric asked.

“Keep quiet!" scolded Garry. "They could be listening to this conversation as we speak! But yes. I need you to keep surveillance of everyone you see. Keep a lookout for a brunette woman with a lean body meant for spy work, probably holding a case with the letters "D.T." printed on it. Tell me if you find anyone.”

“Alright, I gotcha.”

“Thank you for your assistance,” the concerned CEO replied.

Garry stared worryingly at the television. There was a report on a scientist whose work was rejected by major companies because she tried to use the Momentum energy to power a new type of energy efficient duel runner. Just a couple weeks ago, she had apparently gone missing. Was this connected somehow? he asked himself. Unable to concentrate on his tasks, Garry mounted his duel runner, the Blazing Lion, set on the thought that he would get the job done if he searched for the bandit himself. Having been a criminal himself, he decided that the best place to look was the underground dueling clubs.

At the meantime, Eric drove around town, looking for any suspicious behavior. While scouting the streets of the western suburbs, he suddenly saw a brown dragon appear in the sky. Recognizing the dragon instantly, he rushed towards the scene. Eric attempted to inform Garry of his findings, but could not contact him at all. He guessed that Garry was conducting some research of his own at a duel club, where all electronic signals were blocked. Left with no other option, Eric left to confront the thief himself. Upon arriving at his destination, he observed her duel with a duel gang’s boss. Throughout the game, she had completely annihilated his monsters and conquered his back field completely in a one-sided duel. He had realized that his deck was unsuitable for dealing with such a powerful monster. Despite that, he still stepped forward to challenge her.

"Hey, you!" he shouted. "Give back that card you stole!"

“You want to challenge me? Did you not just see how pitifully I crushed that last one?” she boasted.

“Well, you didn’t have a duel with someone like me before! Get ready to return that monster!”

Suddenly, a scarlet duel runner dropped in from the air. Garry cruised in between the two.

“No, Eric. Allow me. Thank you for helping me locate the perpetrator. Now it’s my turn! The flame of justice that is my soul burns with fury! Let’s duel!”

“How touching,” said the thief, “but seeing as you own a customized duel runner, I can assume that you are pretty rich. That must mean that your deck is full of rare cards! If I accept this duel, you must hand over your duel runner and deck if I am the victor!”

“However, you will return my Terra Force Dragon and never set foot in this town again if I win! Is that understood?”

“Perfect. Let’s have ourselves a bone-chilling turbo duel!”

“Not a problem!” said Garry as he swirled around to become parallel with his opponent.

The counter slowly decreased in number, an alarm indicating that the duel had begun.

“Field Spell Speed World 2 Activate! Turbo Duel, Acceleration!” both said at the same time, as they charged for the curve.

Garry, having the more advanced duel runner technology in terms of power and aerodynamics, dashed far ahead of her and blasted across the curve.

“My turn!” Garry shouted, drawing a card.

SPC: Garry - 1 Female Thief - 1

“I summon Fierce Swordsman in attack mode!"

Brandishing its large broadsword, the warrior dressed in leather clothing flew out from a portal that formed beside Garry. As he skidded along a winding path, his monster floated in the air gently beside him.

[spoiler=Fierce Swordsman]Level 4

EARTH/Warrior

ATK-2000 DEF-1900

When this monster attacks, it loses 300 ATK.

"Turn end!”

“It’s my turn!” croaked the woman.

SPC: Garry - 2 Female Thief - 2

“I summon Fragrant Bud in defense mode!"

A small plant blooming a young bulb sprouted from a mass of soil, releasing violet glitter as it glided alongside its master.

[spoiler=Fragrant Bud]Level 1

EARTH/Plant

ATK-0 DEF-0

When this card is destroyed, you can place 1 Pollen Counter on 1 of your opponent’s monsters for each of that monster's levels. Then, Special Summon a "Fragrant" monster from your deck whose level is equal to that of the selected monster.

"I then activate the Continuous Speed Spell Fragrant Forest!"

A warm thicket surrounded the burglar, sparkling with glitter.

[spoiler=Fragrant Forest](You can only activate this card when your Speed Counters are equal to those of your opponent. A "Fragrant" monster that is destroyed in battle can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard at the End Phase of the turn it was destroyed. All Plant type monsters gain 300 ATK and DEF for each Pollen Counter on the field. You can remove counters from either side of the field equal to a monster’s level to destroy that monster.

"If you think I'm done, you're wrong! I activate the Speed Spell Perish Draw!"

[spoiler=Perish Draw]If you have 2 or more Spell Counters, you can destroy 1 level 2 or lower monster on the field.

"I destroy Fragrant Bud to place 4 counters on your swordsman and Special Summon Fragrant Narcissus!"

As the plant fell into the dirt, it released a seed that was implanted inside the warrior. Suddenly, four glowing spheres appeared on its body, puzzling the monster as well as its owner. At the same time, a thin, white flower armed with a spear materialized onto the field, assuming a battle position.

[spoiler=Fragrant Narcissus]Level 4/EARTH/Plant

ATK-1800 DEF-200

Each time this card attacks, discard 1 random card from your opponent’s hand.

"I activate the effect of Fragrant Forest! I remove 4 Pollen Counters to destroy Fierce Swordsman!"

The swordsman howled in agony as the four balls of light erupted from within its body, blasting it into oblivion.

"How'd you like that one?" winked the woman. "Fragrant Narcissus, direct attack!"

Garry eased his gleaming, red duel runner to the edge of the road as the flower attempted to jab him, causing it to miss its target. (2200/4000)

"Now, since my beautiful narcissus attacked, you must discard 1 card from your hand!"

Calmly, Garry closed his eyes and plucked a card from the contraption holding the cards in his hand. He slid it into his Graveyard slot, briefly glancing at it beforehand.

"I set 1 card. Turn end!”

“My turn!” said a concerned Garry.

SPC: Garry - 3 Female Thief - 3

“I activate the Speed Spell Oil Spill!"

[spoiler=Oil Spill]Gain 1 Speed Counter for each monster on your opponent’s side of the field. You can Special Summon a monster from your Graveyard whose level is equal to the number of Speed Counters you have.

A leak appeared from the rear of his vehicle, leaving a trail of spilled oil.

SPC: Garry - 4 Female Thief - 3

"I gain 1 Speed Counter and Special Summon a monster from my Graveyard with the same level as the number of Speed Counters I now have. Revive, Fierce Swordsman!"

The oil combusted and erupted into a large, conflagration. From within the fire, Fierce Swordsman dashed out, completely uninjured.

"And then sacrifice him to summon the Tuner monster Vulcan Behemoth!"

As the warrior turned into a pillar of boiling lava, a towering golem arose from within, magma oozing from the cracks on its body.

[spoiler=Vulcan Behemoth]Level 6

FIRE/Pyro

ATK-2400 DEF-2000

You can tribute one Fire attribute monster on your side of the field to increase this card's ATK by 500.

"Vulcan Behemoth, attack Fragrant Narcissus!"

The humanoid rock monster raised its palm and struck the white flower, incinerating every trace of it. (2200/3800)

"I set 2 cards. Turn end!” announced Garry as two face down cards flashed beside him and vanished.

“Hmph! Not bad," grinned his opponent, appearing unfazed from the last attack. "But it will take more than a burnt pile of rocks to bring me down! I can Special Summon Fragrant Narcissus from the grave due to Fragrant World’s effect!”

"What?!" exclaimed Garry.

A piece of fruit resembling a coconut dropped from one of the trees, shining radiantly before revealing a plant with familiar white petals.

“It’s my turn!"

SPC: Garry - 5 Female Thief - 4

"I activate Speed World 2’s effect! I remove 4 counters to deal you 2400 points of damage for these 3 Speed Spells in my hand!"

SPC: Garry - 5 Female Thief - 0

Eric, I am still in your debt for this card, Garry thought before slapping a card onto his duel disk. “I Special Summon the Tuner monster Eater of Flames in defense mode!"

The magician clothed in loose, foreign attire appeared before him, converting lightning into fire and gulping it all down.

[spoiler=Eater of Flames]Level 1

FIRE/Spellcaster

ATK-500 DEF-200

You can Special Summon this card from your hand to negate taking effect damage. You can decrease a monster you control’s ATK by 500 and its level by 1 to negate effect damage.

"By its effect, I negate the damage!”

“Grrr. Fragrant Narcissus, attack Eater of Fire!” declared the lady in annoyance.

“I activate my Trap card Fire Wall!" responded Garry immediately.

[spoiler=Fire Wall]If a Fire attribute monster is selected as the target of a card that destroys a monster or about to be destroyed in battle, halve all battle damage. No monsters can be destroyed this turn.

"This card let's me halve all battle damage this turn and prevent my monsters from being destroyed!"

The alabaster flower charged forward with its weapon, only to be repelled by a wall of dense flames.

“Turn end,” growled the thief.

“My turn!"

SPC: Garry - 6 Female Thief - 1

"I summon Flame Musketeer in attack mode!"

An elegantly-dressed man with fiery hair and tanned skin rose from the ground, spinning several times before unsheathing its rapier.

[spoiler=Flame Musketeer]Level 2

FIRE/Warrior

ATK-1200 DEF-1300

If this card is used to Synchro Summon a Fire attribute monster, deal 500 points of damage to your opponent.

"I’m tuning my level 6 Vulcan Behemoth to my level 2 Flame Musketeer! A burning flame of the soul smolders brightly! Kindle the fire of blazing salvation! Synchro Summon! Reduce to ashes, Crimson Blaze Dragon!"

The two monsters condensed into balls of fire, which flew into the sky. A dark cloud formed above Garry, lighting cracking from it every couple seconds. Swooping from the cloud, the black-spiked dragon emitted an echoing roar and flapped its wings, blowing a wave of warm air at both players. The female found herself quivering before the creature's might, staring with awe at its striking, red eyes.

[spoiler=Crimson Blaze Dragon]1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner

Level 8

"Due to Flame Musketeer’s effect," continued Garry, "you lose 500 Life Points!"

The scarlet beast soared past Garry's adversary, its scorching breath knocking her off balance. (2200/3300)

"Also, when Crimson Blaze Dragon is Synchro Summoned, you take 500 points of damage!” announced Garry.

“Not so fast!" shouted the woman, shifting her pink duel runner beside him. "I activate my Trap card Tangling Vines!"

[spoiler=Tangling Vines]When a monster is summoned, you can tribute 1 Fragrant monster to destroy it.

"I tribute my Fragrant Narcissus to destroy Crimson Blaze Dragon! So much for the power of the Nature Dragons!”

As the dragon tilted its head back for an attack, Fragrant Narcissus faded away and large vines ensnared the beast.

“You are utterly wrong!" defended Garry, upset about his most prideful monster being insulted. "You forget that you still take damage!"

Before the dragon was crushed and shattered, it launched a gargantuan fireball at the burglar, who closed her eyes in fear. (2200/2800)

"Turn end!” he screamed, unsatisfied with the turn of events.

“It’s my turn!" declared the brunette with a little more confidence.

SPC: Garry - 7 Female Thief - 2

"I activate the Speed Spell Pain and Reward!"

[spoiler=Pain and Reward]Discard cards equal to the number of Speed Counters you have. Then, draw 1 card for each Speed Counter you have.

"With this effect, I discard 2 cards to draw 2 cards! But it’s all worth it because I summon the Tuner monster Fragrant Daffodil in attack mode!"

A saffron, star-shaped flower wielding a pair of wooden tonfas jumped onto the field from a portal that formed beside the thief.

[spoiler=Fragrant Daffodil]Level 4

EARTH/Plant

ATK-1500 DEF-1200

When his card is Normal Summoned while "Fragrant Forest" is face up on the field, you can Special Summon a "Fragrant" monster from your Graveyard.

"Since my daffodil was summoned with Fragrant Forest on the field, I am allowed to summon another Fragrant monster from my Graveyard. Revive, Fragrant Narcissus!"

Once again, the white flower rose from the ground to join the daffodil.

"I tune level 4 Fragrant Narcissus with level 4 Fragrant Daffodil! The god’s footsteps shake the world! Feel the rocking of the crumbling Earth! Synchro Summon! Pulverize them, Terra Force Dragon!"

Garry accelerated from instinct when he felt a large rumble from the ground. In front of him, a small crack appeared, a mild quake stirring around it. His body trembling and quivering with fear of what monstrosity awaited him, Garry stepped on his pedal, activating the over-boost system. At that moment, a humongous, sand-colored dragon broke free from the earth and howled in rejoice of newly found freedom. The creature leaned its head beside Garry and let loose and breath of warm, putrid gas, almost as if mocking him.

[spoiler=Terra Force Dragon]Level 8

EARTH/Dragon

ATK-3000 DEF-2500

At your End Phase, destroy all cards on the field except this card. For each card that was destroyed, their respective owners discard 1 card from their hand.

"Terra Force Dragon, attack Eater of Flames!" commanded the woman, eager for a taste of victory. "Landscape Catastrophe!”

The dragon soared in the sky and dropped straight down to the ground, causing seismic waves that destroyed Garry’s comparably small monster.

“Turn end. With its effect, all cards on the field are destroyed except for my dragon!” laughed the woman.

Spreading its wings, the beast shot a cluster of rocks and boulders in each direction, destroying everything but itself.

“It’s MY dragon!" argued Garry. "Also, you sent my Trap card Searing Prison to the Graveyard, which is something you will regret."

[spoiler=Searing Prison]If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon a Fire attribute Synchro monster from your Graveyard.

"This lets me summon a Fire Synchro monster from my Graveyard upon its destruction. Arise, Crimson Blaze Dragon!”

A flaming cage rose from the ground, containing Garry's prized monster. The red dragon spread its wings, breaking free and flying gracefully in the sky.

"It doesn't matter if that lame excuse for a dragon comes back!" giggled the lady, eager to continue and win the duel. "We each discard 1 card from our hands because my Fragrant Field and your Searing Prison were destroyed due to its effect!"

While Garry reluctantly tossed a card into his Graveyard, his opponent appeared overjoyed doing the same.

“My turn!" announced Garry, unsure of what strategy his opponent was waiting to unveil.

SPC: Garry - 8 Female Thief - 3

"I activate the Speed Spell Double Inferno!"

"Using this card's effect, I cut Terra Force Dragon’s ATK in half! Crimson Blaze Dragon, attack! Scorching Flame of Destruction!”

"This is another effect of Double Inferno. While your monster isn't destroyed this turn, mine can attack twice!"

"No way!" she screamed, feeling the taste of success quickly escaping from her grasp.

“Attack it again! Scorching Flame of Destruction!"

The crimson beast unleashed a massive flamethrower that further damaged the scenery, but left the opposing monster unscathed.(2200/200)

"I set 1 card! Turn end!” smiled Garry, glad that his turn ended on a high note.

“I’ll never surrender my rare card!" bellowed the lady, gasping for breath. "It’s my......TURN!" (…to be continued)
