Just looked at the Showcase section for the first time in several months (haven't been active there for over a year and half now). I almost died physically (I definitely felt myself die inside a bit) after reading some of the comments.

With laughter.

Pretension overdoses make me boil and grind my teeth in rage and my eyes nearly rolled out of their sockets and onto the keyboard due to drama overdose. Someone said that a piece of artwork was "so sexy that if it was a vagina I'd stick my penis in it. so hot.". It's a warped and elitist place. lulz

Discuss drama and pretentiousness.

I actually hate pretentious people. I have plenty of pretentious friends, but I keep my distaste hidden (probably).

I also hate all the following things:

- stupid people who don't listen to any constructive advice you give them
- people who don't think about their future
- students who don't think about their future
- teachers who can't teach very well
- teachers who can't be bothered to stop people from uselessly chatting

Pretentious people are just people dying for attention and generally fail at it.

As for the rest, meh. Its fine to appreciate something, but don't break rules doing it.

@Amir: The card itself is fine (if a bit on the completely broken side), and while it doesnt represent the planet Europa as well as it should you do not poke fun at a card for its picture in CC because it doesnt look good.

Despite my hate for pretentious people, I actually love Showcase. The section makes me a happy panda. People there aren't really pretentious. Dramatic, yes. But then, they are all artistes

High school drama's the worst. 95% it starts over something trivial or misunderstood and it ruins friendships between friends when it could easily have been avoided.
The other 5% may be serious, but it's usually just as stupid, from my experience.

I'm reminded of that person you clashed with RC over a card she made because she wouldn't listen, it went on for 2-3 pages, and she said it was pointless and called you a child to save face.

In essence (see what I did there?) drama is pointless. I run and hide from it because dealing with people I don't care much for isn't worth the energy.

I'm pretty sure I've seen more of the Showcase than you during my past 2 years here, and I can tell you that acting like this isn't new. People appreciate the gifts they receive, is there something wrong with that?
And also, people like Anger, who after reading this go to the discussed section, and just say something meaningless, trying to raise their image by telling it to people, grow f***ing up.

You are telling me to "learn a thing or two" about GFX when you clearly know nothing about the forum you are mocking. I was active for over a year in Showcase, making terrible tags and boosters, but one thing I did that set me apart from the other mediocre "artists" there (pretty much everyone was mediocre or worse bar several people like haris, Omni and Seta) was that I was actually nice about CnC. I didn't spit bile if something was bad or make disturbing sexual metaphors if something was good. It hasn't changed much since I left.

And seeing as I am criticising behaviour in the section rather than the "hot" artwork, what should the example have to do with it? If you are demonstrating myself being pretentious then I can assure you that there are millions of other threads like that in RC that fit the bill more than my thread. If you are demonstrating my stupidity in choosing unfitting artwork then that is merely an opinion (the objects in the centre features gas clouds that look like Jupiter's famous storms, there are two moons, one shadowy blue and the other green-hued. I thought they looked like Callisto and Europa orbiting Jupiter and that the wispy blue aliens looked like reflections of Europa. Europa is thought to be the only other place in the Solar System likely to harbour life, so why not?).

You are doing a very 'Showcase thing' in your post - making a point without explaining the knowledge and thought process behind the point, merely presuming that everyone knows what you are talking about (and ridiculing anyone who doesn't, another 'Showcase touch').

Try to help it? What can one member with little personal influence and no powers ("Divine Right of Kings" as the moderators would say) do to change a whole forum? Nothing. We are meaningless. Matt Enloe, Darkthorne - whatever you want to call him - he is probably the most famous member on this site and even he couldn't do anything with a certain rogue moderator taking a stand. I repeat, we are all meaningless.

Secondly, making a bizarre sexual metaphor that would probably get you warned or banned elsewhere (depending on the moderator or section, another example of the hideous inequality on this site) is "appreciation". Gary Glitter was "appreciating" young Vietnamese girls, you could say. My point is that stupid statements like that are rife in Showcase, and an example of pretentiousness. Should I not provide examples if we are discussing a 'social feature', you could say?

Ohh please don't use that as a protection. People always say that they can't do anything to help, they don't have the power to do that or such as. But if everyone would just focus on their own part of helping others and stop hiding behind that excuse, they could do a lot to help. You're right about the part that you alone don't have the power to affect to the section, yes, but if you'd just focus on your own damn part of it, then you shouldn't have to care about the other's. Yes, I am aware that the problem with this one is the people like you - who think they can't make a difference by helping and therefor don't even try to do it.

About getting warned for raiN's comment (which you are clearly referring to), I'm pretty sure he did get warned, or at least will, if not yet. Why did he say it then? Because I'm pretty damn sure he knew what it could get him. I say that he said it because he couldn't care a f*** about some lousy warning from a moderator on a children's card game site. And it's obvious that he was (or for some people who take everything seriously 'attended') to be humorous. Seriously, dude, one comment, and you make such a hush out of it? Seriously? Don't you really have anything better to do? I mean, it didn't even involve you, did it? It didn't really affect your life, did it? If I'd make such a hush of every single comment I see that I don't personally like or find stupid, this section would be full of such threads by me. But I simply don't care, most of the people don't care. Let the others say what they want and focus on your own damn words.

And the staff isnt the same as it was then. Send us PM's about your complaints, we listen to those far more than some comment posted etc. And I listen even more on IM, regardless of what my attitude is about YCM being mentioned on MSN. Because if its enough to mention on a strictly personal medium, I must take it seriously right?

And the only time we use that "Divine Right of Kings" is to intimidate (the only time I use it now is when someone refuses to listen otherwise). We seldom if ever act on it.

Don't be such a dick. Amir made the tag for me as a gift, which he was kind enough to do. It was a humorous way to show my appreciation, don't make it more than it was. Don't cry because you don't have the brain capacity to understand a blatantly obvious show of appreciation. Most of the actual Showcase regulars use that as appreciation for gifts anyways. It's been a regular occurring thing for more than two years now.

Say you got a present for your birthday you really liked, you show your gratitude and affection for the gift and for the person who gave it. Sure, you may not make a comparison to sex like I did, but I don't expect you to. One, because you're not me. Two, because you probably haven't ever had the feeling of sex in the first place.

First off, I agree with [insert name of the guy who created this thread]. You must realize that the age of some of the members on this forum are a little...low. In other words, comments like that are a bit...inappropriate. Yes, we can say it's up to the parents to monitor what the child sees. But at the same time, we as the posters could show a bit more maturity and keep the...inappropriate remarks to either private messages or in an area where we know who is reading it.

However, I also agree with those from the showcase section. Everyone is allowed to show their appreciation in whatever way they deem fit. That could be points, + reps, praise, comments on what we would do with the picture...well, you get my drift. Really, all you can do is ignore it, and possible even report it.

Now, I can see that both sides are pretty firm in their stance. So, I'm going to take the first step to "helping" said section like suggested earlier. I would like to propose a compromise that will please everyone. People in the showcase section can take their...inappropriate comments to personal messages. At the same time, everyone else (like the guy who created this thread) can stop complaining about things they don't like by creating ridiculous threads such as this. All it ever does is start pointless arguments.

I'm pretty sure that if condoms can be given to Kindergarten students, that I can make a non-obscene/explicit metaphor for sex. Honestly, I used no foul language, and kids usually learn scientific terms for this stuff by the 4th grade. I'm also pretty sure that most people using the forum are above the usual 5th grade age.
