The art community is an embarassment IMO

tl;dw-version:

- Four year old girl splashes paint randomly
- Art world laudes her as a brilliant artist
- Normal people facepalm

Discuss the art community, this video, or how awesome I am.

I don't understand modern art. I know there's supposed to be a "deeper meaning" to it all, but all I see is random splotches of color splashed onto a canvas, or two cinderblocks sitting side-by-side on a wooden bench.

Hell, I could do art if I was creative in explaining the meaning.

I reckon a lot of modern art is rubbish too. I can't remember the exact wording but in Jay Naylor's Better Days comic somebody buying Beth's art mentions that traditional art expresses the artist's intentions fully, whereas some modern art essentially cheats by using the old "open to anyone's interpretation" clause.

Art is worth whatever people will pay for it. If I think something is amazing and so does someonelse, and we both want it and would pay 10,000 for it, then it's worth 10,000. Art is subjective mate.

this topic should've been locked after this...LOL

For the record, some of them do look REALLY good. Some are just ew. And I'd love to hang some on my wall. But to call her anything but a lucky child having fun is silly.

I'm really impressed. I like the idea of just attacking the paper and creating a picture. That's my style.

Here, I thought artists nowadays were (poorly) drawing out of "How to draw Anime" books on a tablet and taking copyrighted characters and putting photoshop effects on them and calling it theirs.

So if I paint a Picture with my Toes, i'm instantly a Artist?
Yes. You don't have to have state-of-the-art tools or a complex design plan to be an artist.

Someone throws random Paint Splatters at a Canva and it's ART!?
Yeah it is. An image made from randomly striking the paper is art. Even breaking pieces off a rock in the woods and making something like a face from it is art.

Art makes no sense it never has the value of any piece is found on what you see in it. I went a annual art walk-through in Tuscarora last month and the entire town is an artist town of like 30 and everything is made of scraps and unconventional material and I saw a quilted tin piece made of rusted coffee containers with no real meaning but I adored it for no explainable reason. Its about how art means to you and if someone likes it theres a market for it.

The whole modern art thing just reminded me of the old Emperor's New Clothes story. Like, everyone can tell this is stupid, they all just swallow their pride because they don't wanna look foolish after hyping it up for so long.

That girl's paintings are worse than Picasso imo.

True art honestly should be music (minus rap), actual painting, and literature. They require actual brainpower and skill, instead of clapping hands in blue paint and calling it a masterpiece.

Now, granted, the girl gets older and defines her style into actual shapes that the average person can understand, THEN people can appreciate it for its appeal to the average man.

What fool standardizes art? If you do, you have no grasp on it.

Splatter Paintings do have shape, they often do have meaning, and all that. However, it's a style that relies on color choices for interpretation as well as feeling. Then your type of splatter (yes there is many many many different ways to place it on the canvas; just as many if not infinitely more than traditional methods).

Please note. I am not calling this kid anything more than a lucky child lol.

Why would you subtract rap from art? It's the musical personification of life from different perspectives. That is purely art.

You seem to have this impression that for something to be qualified as art, it has to make a deep cultural statement.

There is no boundary to true art. If there is a boundary, there is no art. Art is made of infinite possibilities. To just say one thing is art and another isn't, like you saying music minus rap, is pure dumb fuckery. Just because all a four year old has to do is splash some s*** around to make a better piece than you ever could doesn't mean it isn't art. She may be lucky, but she created art. To her, her just splashing her hands down on a piece of paper is art. She could draw a shitty picture of a forest with crayons on notebook paper and it'd still be art.

deviantART in a nutshell.

OT: I feel like I've accomplished nothing as an "artist" now. F***ing infants.
