Theoretical post armageddon situation

I was watching this show that discussed how humans would survive after an event that occurred that wiped out most of human kind and just about 10 percent of mankind remains. I believe it was a pandemic of some kind.

The program called After Armageddon discussed how after awhile, we would return to early 20th century style of living and farming. Interesting thing is, some today's technology would remain and many of it would not. There will be no one to run power plants, and other necessary resources. So it would seem we would be using 20th century lamps and lanterns. But we would also have battery powered lightning. But how long would the supply of batteries last?
And I can imagine those batteries would be very expensive.

Also small communities would arise from abandoned towns. There would be a lot of farm communities. Another different concept that wasnt around in the 20th century is Earthship communities.

Discuss how life would be post Armageddon and how 21st century technology in a 20th century lifestyle would work out.

Lol at the above comments.

But on a serious note, I believe I saw the program you're referring to. Much of society as we know it will collapse in larger urban areas that thrive on technology while rural areas that can be self-sustained will survive. Eventually, the world would supposedly revert back to late 18th and 19th century agrarian societies. They made an interesting point on how a lot of criminal organizations can survive because they have the adequate access to weapons and smuggling enterprises, but that made me think, what about remnants of the government or military a la Fallout style? That seems feasible enough since they have all the most advanced technology and are supposed to be prepared for nuclear crises which should be similar to this post-apocalyptic scenario.

Have you by any chance read the Uglies trilogy? I know it's supposed to be a teenage drama for girls or whatever, but I thought some of the ideas presented in the book were really interesting. Small societies would eventually develop into larger centers of commerce somewhat like a second Renaissance, but since many of the current technologies will exist, and much of the knowledge of the modern era will be preserved in books, society could potentially still make a great leap forward. They placed an emphasis on mankind's ability to adapt and rebound from catastrophes on several occassions.

Then again, who knows when Skynet will take over the world and start a war to wipe out humanity?

What would I do? I would create a new Communist utopia.

A utopia is impossible. Of course, not a utopia to a specific individual's eyes. But there'll always be people against your view of perfection.
Anyways, it'd inevitably end up as a dystopia.

I love how people always make such presumptuous assertions with poorly constructed priori arguments. Utopias for everyone are impossible because there is no tangible state of perfection. Some people might be satisfied living a simple, rural life while others will always yearn for excitement and action. But whether or not it'll end up as a dystopia is questionable. It's basically just invalidating over two million years of history in the making when we don't even know the end result yet. That's quite a big conclusion to jump to.

Thank you for reiterating what I said and then being critical.

I'll ask you, then. Were the last two million years and of politics absolute communism?

You mean clarifying on your vague comment about individual's eyes? My first and foremost statement was that utopias don't exist, period. Whether or not people might consider something more favorable doesn't really have relevance either way. And I'll respond with a simple no. Define absolute communism, because as far as my knowledge goes, there's really no society that's been able to thrive throughout history with an absolute communism. Small, isolated rural communities existed where people would share their belongings for the greater good of the community, but that's never been implemented successfully over a broad scale for any significant period of time. Even the U.S.S.R. was never truly an 'absolute communism' with all its constant revisionist policies that focused on developing industrial sectors, and that gig only lasted about half a century.

1. Kill everything (except for a smoking hot girl that you will repopulate the earth with)
2. Have super powers.

You are set for life.

If the world ends I'm gonna become a traveling salesman, with a shopping cart just travelling around selling stuff to people.
Whatever I can find, Cans, Stuffed Animals, Binders, anything.
