Kariya chuckled. "You think your face-downs can scare me? I have the perfect card to get rid of them." He grabbed his deck, scanning through it, adding a card from it to his hand. "I'll take my Illustrious Mirror - Yellow Gadget, this turn." He said as he re-shuffled his deck. "And I won't keep you waiting, I'll activate it right now!" The mirror once again formed in front of him, the image this time resembling Yellow Gadget. "But I won't finish just yet. Like I said I have the perfect card to destroy your strategy. I summon the all powerful phoenix - Ho-Oh - In attack mode!" His Red Gadget lit up in front of him, soon burning to ashes. Not long after, a burning phoenix emerged from those ashes and unleashed hundred upon hundreds of feathers directly at his opponent's face-down cards. "In case you're uninformed, Ho-oh destroys all face-down Spell and Trap cards you control upon his summon. Don't think you'll be liking that any time soon." Kariya was starting to act incredibly smug.
"Next, I activate the effect of my Red Gadget Mirror. I'll discard my Yellow Gadget from my hand to destroy your Draw Turtle, leaving you wide open for my Ho-Oh! Now, my sacred phoenix, Burning Scourge!" The bird lit up, flying straight towards Kariya's opponent, knocking him to the floor. "And since my Ho-oh is a Spirit monster, it returns to my hand at the end of my turn, so I can use it again, and again, and again." He returned the card from his duel disk to his hand as the hologram burst into flames, leaving naught but ashes which blew away in the wind.

"You know," Dylan replied, "you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew. I activate a counter trap," he explained, "Seven Tools of the Bandit. At the apparent bargain price of just 1000 of my life points, I can negate the activation of your trap and destroy it, meaning both monsters involved will stay exactly where they are, thank you very much. Now, Tritus will attack Galaxy Queen, and whilst it may not do damage, when Tritus battles an Xyz monster it will lose one of it's Xyz materials." Dylan paused for a moment, observing the attack animation. "I'll then end my turn with a new face-down," he concluded

Lexie Fox crept along a service tunnel. A chance to work in plain clothes was not something she would pass up, even if it did mean trying to avoid attention as she slipped towards the stadium. Many would get lost, but Lexie, following her gut, found her way their in short order. She had a feeling it was down to her sister, and in a way it was - it was the Number monster she'd inherited from said sister that allowed her to find the stadium. She eventually made it to the stands and sat down, opting to watch and get a feel for the duelists in the tournament - as well as any in particular who seemed likely to cause trouble later on.

Rina wordlessly discarded one card. However, a touch of emotion appeared on her face as she saw her opponent attack her face-down.

"You've destroyed my Goblin Zombie [1100/1050]." And so it was; a blackened skeleton wielding a rusted scimitar appeared briefly on the field before being felled by Sniper Elf's attack. "Since it was destroyed by battle, I activate it's effect to add one Zombie-type Monster with less than 1200 DEF to my hand. I select Zombie Master [1800/0]."
"Now, before I start my turn, I activate one of my face-downs, Mystical Space Typhoon, during your End Phase to destroy one of your face-downs. Now that's my turn, I Summon Zombie Master to the field and activate it's effect." A sickly white child appeared, wearing a long ragged cloak and muttering odd words. "By discarding my Plaguespreader Zombie [400/200], I Summon Goblin Zombie back to the field. Next, I activate the effect of Plaguespreader Zombie, setting one card back on the top of the deck to Summon itself from back to the field!" Rina laid a card down on the top of her deck, leaving only three in her hand. A corpulent yet half-decayed zombie with a strange purplish tint appeared next to the child and the skeleton once she did so. "Now, I tune my Plaguespreader Zombie to my Goblin Zombie to Synchro Summon Doomkaiser Dragon [2400/1500]!" The Zombie burst into two green rings , which circled around the darkly-colored zombie before finally flashing too bright for Rina to see. Once the light faded away, the two monsters were gone and a large black dragon had appeared. It soared above the field, white bones jutting and red eyes burning, before finally settling down next to Rina's other monster, Zombie Master.

Unfortunately, Doomkaiser's effect couldn't be activated at the moment, but it's primary purpose as of yet was as a beatstick. Rina thought it was unlikely that her opponent or his face-down would hold any hidden surprises, but she wanted to be sure; she would stop it right there. "Now, Doomkaiser Dragon! Attack his Sniper Elf!" The dragon roared and took to the sky, swooping down towards Sniper Elf once it got high enough. Black flame forming within it's jaws, as the great undead dragon moved to burn the little elf into ash. Her Zombie Master stayed back, waiting until his more powerful ally did it's work before attacking.
Lance reeled back from the onslaught of burn damage his opponent threw at him.
"I gotta find a way around his Easter Gardna..." Lance thought to himself.
"I draw and lose another 500 life points due to your trap." The combo in his hand was coming together quite nicely. "Now, I activate my trap, Gallant Force. With this, I'm allowed to special summon one Round Table monster from my hand, and every one of my standby phases I'll have to pay life points to keep that monster on the field."
A new knight appeared next to the other two, proudly holding a white shield and a red cross.
"I summon, Round Table, Galahad. When Galahad is summoned, I'm allowed to destroy one face-up Spell or Trap card and add one Spell or Trap card to my hand from my deck. I choose to destroy, Countdown to Destruction."
The white shielded knight threw his sword and impaled Countdown to Destruction on Lance's opponent's side of the field.
"Now, I overlay my level 5 Round Table, Lancelot, Round Table, Gawain, and Round Table, Galahad. With these monsters, I construct the Overlay Network. Exceed Summon, rise Number 69 Excalibur Knight!"
A long haired man clad in golden armor rose from a bright light. In his hand he held the mighty Excalibur and he wielded it proudly. Three glowing lights delicately circled the strong knight.
"As long as Excalibur remains on the field, neither of us can use Spell Cards. However, by removing one overlay unit, I'm allowed to active them. Now, I remove my overlayed Gawain in order to use my Spell, Rhongomyniad Spear. With this card, I can banish one card on your field by removing a Warrior-Type overlay unit from Excalibur Knight. I choose to banish your Easter Gardna and because the effect of Rhongomyniad Spear doesn't destroy your Gardna, its effect can't be activated to negate its destruction."
A spear suddenly appeared as two of the glowing lights circling Excalibur faded away. The golden knight hurled the spear at Easter Gardna, and the weapon and monster disappeared.
"Furthermore, because I sent my Round Table, Gawain to the Graveyard, my Excalibur Knight gains an extra 500 ATK. I wage a direct attack with Excalibur Knight! With that, I'll place one card face-down and end my turn."

Lexie hadn't been watching the duels very long when she was challenged. Seemingly out of place, her opponent was a girl of no more than 12, dressed in garish pinks and oranges. "Hey miss," the girl piped up in a sweet voice, sliding along the stand towards her, "You're supposed to duel, not sit around watching everyone else. Come and duel me," she insisted, dragging at Lexie's arm. The moment she turned away from the undercover security agent, however, the girl's grin turned more sinister. Then you can lose and give me your Numbers, she though.

Lexie allowed herself to be dragged to a clear space. "Very well then," she agreed, "but I'll take the first move." She drew another card and looked at it. "I'll start with a monster and two more cards face down. OK then, your move."

Watts. I hate watts. "My turn," Lexie called, drawing another card. "First of all, I flip summon Evoldo Westlo, which lets me summon an Evoldar monster from my deck." A small green reptile emerged onto the field (ATK 700), followed by a large purple dinosaur (ATK 1600). "I summon my Evoldar Diplodocus, and when it's summoned I can destroy a spell or trap card on your field, so I'll take out your face-down." One stamp from the dinosaur sent tremors through the ground towards the face-down card.
]"Next up, I summon Jurrac Gauiba to the field." A brighter dinosaur, covered in flames, also appeared (ATK 1700). "He can't attack this turn, but Westlo and Diplodocus will both attack you directly." The two monsters charged at the girl.

"Now, I overlay Jurrac Gauiba and Evoldar Diplodocus to Xyz Summon the mighty Evolkaiser Laiga." The two monsters turned into red swirls, and formed a spiral on the field, out of which came a fierce looking Dragon (ATK 2400). "I'll end my turn there."

Kariya flinched as the attack hit him, however he remained silent, he knew he was already the victor, he just had to draw the right card on his next turn... "I'll pass on activating my Green Gadget mirror this turn, and draw this card. Then I play my Trap card Reckless Greed, allowing me to draw a further two, giving me everything I need to win this duel! I'll start by activating my Red Gadget Mirror's Special Effect, discarding my Green Gadget to destroy Des Randomizer!" The mirror lit up, firing a beam directly at his opponent's monster shattering it into naught but shards. "And now you get to witness my ultimate monster! My sacrificing my 3 Illustrious Mirrors I can summon the all powerful Illustrious Gadget Crimson Core!" His mirrors simultaneously evaporated, and before him formed his monster, and eagle-like machine, with a bright crimson gem for its "core". "You have nothing left to defend you from all 3000 of his attack points. Now, Crimson Core, attack with Final Shockwave!" The mechanical eagle soared high into the air, making itself barely visible. Its crimson gem in the sunlight caused the entire stadium to turn a bright red. The colour soon reverted, as the monster swooped down at an unimaginable speed, only stopping right before Kariya's opponent as it turned to fly upwards. Its motion was soon followed by a shockwave strong enough to send Kariya's opponent flying, and reducing his Life Points to 0.

Kariya laughed. "If you can't even beat an old man, what makes you think you have a chance at anyone else, then, eh?"

Track watched as the number card which his opponent didnt even get the chance to use floated towards Track. He took the card and placed it in his deck. He began to walk off thinking to himself. "Geez that guy wasnt even worth my time. I mean for one he didnt even get to use his number card. But i guess thats kinda my folt. Seeing that im such a great duelist." Track carried on walking until he stopped and sat down on the side lines. "And two. Once again i didnt even need to use my number. But theres no point wondering about it now. Ive already got two number cards altogether so i might aswell take a break and allow other duelists to win." Track laughed out loud and watched some of the other duels.

Rina shook her head as she saw him attack. Such bad tactics! Attacking my monster with nothing to protect his own monster? "I activate my second face-down." She said evenly. "Negate Attack! This card not only stop's your card's attack, but ends your battle phase!" Dimensional Prison would have been a better option, given how many cards had anti-destruction effects nowadays, but Rina's deck worked with the Graveyard, and banishing effects would not have helped her. So she had settled on this alternative.

And with that, it was her turn. As she drew and placed a fourth card in her hand, not even looking at it, she considered her options; her opponent's field was wide-open right now, but her Doomkaiser Dragon had been reduced to 100 ATK, a problem that needed to be fixed. Rina's eyes flickered to the card she just drew, and a smile touched her face; she had found her solution.

"I summon Pain Painter [400/200]!" A greenish zombie, looking horribly like the Plaguespreader that had appeared before, albeit dressed in a painter's smock as opposed to old ripped clothing, appeared on the field. It grinned nastily as Rina's opponent.

"And now" -Here was Rina's trump move- "I activate Pain Painter's effect, changing Zombie Master and Doomkaiser Dragon into Level 2 monsters! Now that they're all the same level...Xyz Summon! Come out, Number 57: Vengeful Shinigami [700/0]!" As so yet one more Numbers card had appeared. Pain Painter's effect has actually been intended for Synchro Summoning the many Level 6 Zombie-Type Synchros, but Rina had found the effect worked just as well for her Number card. And yes, watch; the cards flew together in a splash of light, finally becoming the form of a ghostly figure, decked in a long black cloak. His features could not be seen, except for his eyes, which glowed with a malevolent purple light.

"Shinigami's attack increases by 500 points for each Overlay Unit it has, but I can also removed one Xyz Material" -The faint afterimage of her Doomkaiser Dragon briefly appeared- "to destroy one of your cards. I choose Elf Gunman!" Her opponents monster exploded into pixels, leaving Vengeful Shinigami as the only monster on the field, standing with only 1700 ATK- not enough to defeat her opponent. But Rina has a solution to that as well.

"I activate Book of Life from my hand. This card allows me to Summon one Zombie-type Monster from my Graveyard, and banish one card from yours. I banish Elf Gunman, and Summon Doomkaiser back to the field!" Her dragon, back at full 2400 ATK, reappeared. "Now then! Direct attack!" She screamed, and her two monsters leaped forward, each aiming for the opponent's throat. "Look's like that'll be game." Rina smiled savagely.

"Right," Hawk said, starting to grin, "so this is how it is! Well then, I'll activate return of the flock! With this card, I banish all winged beasts in my grave, so I can summon another winged beast from my deck. Well, it's level has to be the same or less than how many banished." Hawk searched his deck for the card he would summon.

"Now, come to the field, whirlwind eagle! His effect kicks in since he was summoned from my deck - it allows me to destroy that other face-down of yours!" Hawk's monster attacked his face-down card, filled with massive speed.

"Now, I activate Swift Beak Strike, by returning 1 winged beast from my hand, and one from my graveyard to my deck, I can destroy that breeze sphere and then, I'll draw another card.So now, whirlwind eagle, attack his air sphere!"

OOC: Countdown to Destruction was destroyed on my previous turn by a card effect.

"I feel..." Lance hesitated for a moment. Drawing on his inner courage and thoughts of his friend, Tim, he said, "I feel like it's you that should be worried about not getting another turn!"
With gusto, Lance drew from his deck. "I draw! I now summon the Marauding Captain to the field in attack position."
Yet another knight, this time wearing a red cape and dull, gray armor appeared on the field.
"By removing one overlay unit from my Excalibur Knight, I'm allowed to activate a Spell Card."
A glowing light around Excalibur faded away, as a vicious cyclone emerged.
"I activate, Mystical Space Typhoon! With this, I can destroy your Bad Reaction to Simochi."
The great tornado whipped through Lance's opponent's back field, destroying the trap.
"Now, I will attack Directly with Marauding Captain, and then with my Excalibur Knight!"
The golden armored knight, in tandem with the smaller, tattered knight jumped high in the air, and together brought their swords down hard on their foe.

Life Points: 700
Hand: 0
Monsters: Number 69 Excalibur Knight and Marauding Captain
Spell/Trap: Ultimate Offering and 1 facedown

Arc 2 - Sector Security Invades!

I suppose it's time to spring the trap, order all units to move out at once.

(everyone who was in a duel has won and received a Number card, and for those of you who won a Number that wouldn't work just mention getting 1 Number you can use BLACK MIST being reserved by me)

After the first series of duels had finished there was an odd silence as duelists prepared for their next match, soon Sector Security busted into the arena.
You are all under arrest for the attempted assassination of Lady Iona ten years ago and Battle Royal mode has been activated so if any of you think your dueling your way out you'll have at least 5 members of sector security to crush you into past before your first turn.

Lexie pulled out her badge and quickly headed over to the nearest officer, who she didn't know. "Lexie Fox," she introduced herself, "I've been working with plainclothes to scout out the area. From what I've seen, you should watch out for those guys," she explained, pointing out a few people who had seemed particularly violent or aggressive during their first round matches.

Dylan paused. They're arresting everyone with a number card for an assassination attempt a decade ago? Ten years is a long time; even if the assassin had a number, he could have easily lost it or died already. Regardless, he raised his hands as an officer approached him. I have nothing to hide, besides, I've heard bad stories about this Orichalcos as well, so provoking them to duel would probably be a mistake. "It's OK," he called to the officer, "It wasn't me, but if you need to rule me out I'll answer questions."

Track was relaxing on the side seats. He was eating a chocolate bar which he had been saving in case he got hungry. Track suddenly dropped his chocolate bar when all of a sudden a whole heap of sector security burst into the arena. Track got up in anger. He noticed that there was one guy who was giving himself in saying that he wouldn't mind being asked a few questions. Track ran over to the guy. He looked up at the guy and shouted. "What do you think your doing. Those are sector security jerks. We definitely shouldn't give ourselves in." Track then looked at the sector security. "Okay listen up. I certainly didn't try to assassinate anyone. Anyway I'm far to young to even try and assassinate some one." Track stared at the sector security officers and waited for them to respond.

Tari stood to one side and watched the rest of the duels end patiently, waiting for another to challange her.

Perhaps next time I'll get a Number card that might actually be useful to me, she thought to herself as she watched the last of the duels end.

She stepped forward once it was over and prepared herself for another duel, before she could start a challenge however a sudden surge of security officers suddenly burst into the area, demanding the duellists surrender and warning them against resisting. Almost immediately one person tried to argue his innocence. Tari's eyes narrowed as she watched the display, sorely tempted to just call her D-Wheel and leg it but the threat of a 'battle royal' kept her in place.

****

Kyra stepped into the area behind the crowd of security officers, casting a dark glance about at all the duellists gathered, a look of pure loathing in her eyes. She had no intention of letting any of them get away, and if they did then she'd be more than glad to introduce them to her secret weapon. Her gaze was drawn to 2 duellists, the first pleading innocent and the second attempting to quieten the first before making his own plea.

"You would do well to remain silent," Kyra warned "You're in a bad enough position as it is."

She gave the pair another stern glare before casting her gaze about the room once more as though daring any of the others to follow suit.

****

Tari's eyes narrowed slightly as the blond haired woman stepped into the room, looking far too young to be a ranking officer but displaying more than the perfect attitude for it. A tempted hand waved to her duel disk but she held back for the moment.

Lexie moved behind the other officers, looking for the one who had her uniform jacket and hat - she already had the trousers on, which had gone unnoticed, since they lacked markings. In the current situation, it was important she wasn't mistaken for one of the satellite duelists.

Dylan, however, was not to be deterred, neither by the youth who unlike him clearly couldn't be guilty, nor by the woman who seemed to be in charge of the operation. "I presume then, ma'am, that you are the ranking officer present? I cannot think for a moment that you think all these people are your assassin. Therefore, what you need to do, is work out who here - if indeed the person you want is still here, or even came today in the first place - is the one you want, and that would be far easier if you didn't presume guilt in people who are, statistically speaking, almost certainly innocent."

Rina watched impassively as her opponent crumbled under the combined attack of her monsters. The cards that had previously separated the two duelists faded away, a sign of the duel ending. Once the Duel Disks had deactivated, a card went flying out of the man's grasp, pulled along by an invisible chain; it settled in Rina's hand, where she inspected it minutely; it was a Spellcaster called Secretive Archmage, with quite an effect and...yes. It was Rank 6.

Well, this will aid my Level 6 Synchros, she thought, satisfied. For a second, Rina didn't notice the men streaming into the room; it wasn't until the woman starting talking that Rina realized what was going on.

Sector Security! This is bad... Rina's apprehension worsened as she heard what they were being prosecuted for. An attempted murder ten years ago?! Why would they come here for that... Rina's mind, soured by her years on the streets, instantly leapt to the option that her younger Satellites hadn't thought of: there must be an ulterior motive.

Rina's eyes flickered around the room. The guards were all over the place, and they said they had activated Battle Royale mode. That wasn't good. Rina thought her best option, as of yet, was to keep quiet and see what the officers wanted...or, at least until she could make her break for it.

Oh what the hell?

Bella had just been about to challenge one of the duelists to a duel when Security came bursting in. Her face momentarily twisted into an expression of contempt. Now she was probably going to be the only one without two or more Numbers. Her hand clenched defiantly. Whoever arranged this tournament clearly hadn't put enough thought into the location, or it was deliberately closed in.

What kind of idiot would actually be willing to talk to the officers? Not having information won't help anyone, she thought bitterly. And she knew that if Battle Royale mode really was in play, the only way they could duel their way out was if everyone joined the duel, and quite frankly, she didn't like those odds.

As things heated up about half of the duelists in the arena had tried to duel their way out, they were all taken out in under a minute and only accomplished bring out some of their opponents stronger cards for the rest of them to take care of.

The man who had made the initial announcement heard what had been said between some of the competitors, We know it was a terrorist cell that tried to do the assassination and we know that people here have something to do with it, besides do you really expect me to believe that you all just happened to come here and you all have Number cards which have recently been made illegal for private citizens to own.

One of the Sector Security duelists had gotten both Cyber End Dragon and Chimeratech Overdragon with 4000 ATK, another had brought out his Number 22: Unsealed Beast along with his copy of The Seal of Orichalcos.

Kariya was shocked by the sudden influx of police officers but figured that there was only two ways out of it. To duel, or to get captured and pay for his bail with his exorbitant earnings. He figured the first option would be more fun and the second option was an easy fall-back anyway. "If it's a battle royale you gents want, it's a battle royale you'll get!" He activated his duel disk and drew 5 cards. "And this'll shut you all up, the powerful magic of Dark Hole!" As his spell card took effect he looked around him for people who weren't yet dueling. "What are you all doing? We have to join together to take these guys down, or do you all WANT to go to jail?!" He hoped and hoped that they would listen to him and help defeat sector security. "I know the perfect way to extinguish them, but I'll need as much help as I can get, just my number and the one I won off that kid isn't going to be enough." He thought to himself.

Dylan turned to face another officer, who was talking about a terrorist cell. "Actually sir, what you know is that some Number cards are connected to this terrorist group. That many of the number cards may be here does, of course, make it easier to find the persons involved in your crime, but what you don't have is any evidence that any individual here is or was a member of that group. It took you ten years to reach this point - do you not think this group might have disbanded or moved away by now?" Nearby, duelists were deciding to try and fight their way out past the security, generally losing the the better organised officers. Dylan shook his head. If we have to fight, then we will have to stick together, Dylan thought to himself. Still, I want to get as much info about this assassination as I can. And I for one don't recall any prohibition on even using, let alone owning the Numbers. He checked his deck was in place. He was now sure he'd end up fighting, but he wanted to put of the possibility for as long as possible.

Kyra's expression darkened as several of the duellists attempted to fight their way out, getting quickly beaten into submission by the security officers. Kyra had not the patients for this and it clearly showed.

"Regardless of whether you had a hand in this or not, you are all under suspicion. I do not care if you had a direct hand in the assassination or are just vaguley connected to it, you all have an undispitible connection to the culprits no matter how much you try to deny it. I will not warn you again, further resistance will not be tolerated."

Idiots! Tari almost slapped herself in frustration as several duellists tried to fight against the assembled forces that vastly outnumbered them Even if we could all work together there's way too many of them.

Tari was no stranger to trouble from security, she knew how they worked and she knew that the best way to try and elude capture was not to draw attention to yourself, which most of the people in the arena seemed hell bent on doing. Her eyes darted about quickly, taking note of the number and formation of officers and any potential exits; there was only one, and it happened to be right where the security officers where standing.

The best thing to do at the moment is to play along and wait, Tari thought, reluctantly raising both hands in surrender Once we're clear of the underground and up to the surface we'd have a much better chance.

She then cast her gaze around the other duellists who came for the tournament, sizing each of them up.

Like it or not though, I guess we will have to work together in the end, she thought I just hope nobody here screws up our chances by doing something stupid.

Another duellist joined the fray, attempting to intimidate the officers with his Black Hole Spell. Tari practically rolled her eyes at the futility of this but said nothing.

"You're not helping," Tari hissed at the duellist responsible "This isn't some slock action movie here so don't try and be a hero, there's way too many of them for all of us to handle and I seriously doubt most people here would be willing to work together anyway."

She nodded at a couple of duellists attempting to fight their way through the horde only to get beaten down.

"You try that again and you'll end up just like them," Tari warned.
