It's like watching a train wreck. Knowing it's there entices you to check it out. And you are either horrified or fascinated by the carnage. The first just felt "I R RITE G0RE!1" while V2 actually read like a torture-fic. It doesn't hurt to get your work proof-read, you know. I've said it time and again: It's just an overhyped fanfic. So it's about Y7 ponies being tortured? Big deal. Our generation thrives on the gore factor to achieve an audience. I'm sure if it was about r@pe, then we'd be all: "Pssh. Another one?". There's graphic detail of the torture? At least it paints a picture (in blood). Most fics I read that have any amount of gore in them usually only go into: "X stabbed Y's stomach. There was blood everywhere and the organs fell out and Y cried. Then other stuff happened." Cupcakes made it's claim to fame because of a combination of helpful factors: 1) The misleading title. 'Oh look, Cupcakes. It must be a sweet, fun-loving, innocent- *reads* Ohdeargodwhythiswhatisthisidonteven-!!'. 2) The absurdity of the dark plot together with the light setting. People have always loved to see a beloved story/character shown in it's complete opposite. Imagine 'Disney Presents: Hellsing The Musical'. 3) The timing. Pinkie Pie was still developing her character, so she was a perfect fit to play the psycho-killer. The happy-go-lucky, ever-smiling, pink, partying, fun-at-all-costs, hyperactive character? She couldn't have had the closet murderer role down more unless she actually DID show mental instability. Oh wait, she did. Several episodes later. To further cement the meme. FOREEEVVVVVEEEERRRR!!! All in all, 'Cupcakes' is an overhyped fanfic about a pony murdering her best friend for gits and shiggles. I'm just meh when it comes to reading gore. I can't watch Saw, but I can sure read about it. Back to cool things.
