No seriously, that's the only reason to negate your own attack, just so you can use a card to attack again at double the power.

It's because Hope is a Trigger Spell Speed 1 effect. So you can't actually chain it to anything, but it can start a chain.

The reason why is due to its timing. It has to be used only to a monster's Attack Declaration. As turn player, you have priority to activate this effect or cards like Magician's Circle. If your opponent activates D-Prison or something, it's no longer responding to an attack declaration.

Yeah...that kind of ruined the card.

Except you can chain 2 D-Prison's together, and they have the same conditions :/
