It doesn't miss the timing, but its Trigger is more complicated than simply being sent to the Graveyard. If the equipped monster is destroyed or flipped facedown, Aklys is sent to the Graveyard, but its effect does not activate, because it was not sent while equipped. It was sent because it was no longer being equipped to anything. Dragunity Legionaire and Vajrayana send their Equips to the Grave for their effects. These will trigger Aklys because they were sent to the Graveyard as Equips. MST will Trigger Aklys because it was sent to the Graveyard as equips. Since they seem to become Level 6 with little to no effort, I'd run E-Tele + Krebons in here for an unexpected Synchro to give them more options. Kamen Rider basically translates into [i]Masked[/i] Rider. So there ability to equip themselves to eachother reflects the whole Mask-Change concept.
