Plot relevance > a few seconds at the end of a half an hour episode.
Also, Corn is also a plant so, they could've as easily do the mockery with that material.
Rock Lee moment is pretty much the only think you'd have to give up.

Thats the point. Konami wouldn't know how to hit Tengu Plants if you explained it to their faces.....
