Alternate Format: Top Deck'n Highlander Style

Recommended Posts

props to ProlificDCharge on DGz for this
As a sort of return to the days of old, when decks were commonly stuffed with 1 of's, and cookie cutter cards, I thought it'd be fun to try an alternative format where you play in a constantly simplifying game state.   The rules are as follows:

When the duel starts, both players have ZERO cards in hand.

Every card that's legal under the current banlist is limited to 1 per deck. In other words, you can only run 1 copy of any given card in a deck (or Extra Deck).

Hand Size limit is 4 cards AT ALL TIMES.

Banned Cards:

**Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

**Tour Guide From the Underworld

**Dandylion

**Morphing Jar

**Lonefire Blossom

**Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
Several friends of mine playtested under this format and enjoy the idea. If anyone is interested, share your experience under these rules. I'm considering making the minimum deck size larger (45 cards for example).
Edit: Banned BLS and Tour Guide. Since I'm still skeptical about this being a necessary ban, I recommend trying this format with BLS and TGU first and then coming to your own conclusions. But for the most part, it seems necessary enough.
this format is actually really fun

the fun in the format is the spontaneity of your plays. you start out with absolutely no resources and you have to work with what you draw. the best cards for this format are basically floaters like Stratos and such, but the card of the format has to be Bubbleman. there are like four cards to get Bubbleman on turn 1 and if you resolve his effect you get +2 over your opponent and can use Bubbleman for a rank 4 Xyz. the rest of the format comes down to whether you picked the right engines or not (since there's a lot of engines to fit in that can gain advantage)

also infernities as a whole suck because you don't have enough cards to produce their setup and are only good on a generic level.
