Would you play YuGiOh if it was remixed to a new game?

Recommended Posts

7 monster zones (but 1 is reserved for a special card)
7 spell/trap zones
60 card deck
4 dupes
7 card hand max
draw 2 on your upkeep
draw a card for every card you play
redone errata/ban list
1 "leader" card to give your deck purpose (the special card)

These are just some of my ideas... If you want to see examples of the "leader" cards; go into the realistic card section (I have two threads running).

The game is no longer going to be based on how to control the board. It will be based on actually making good battle strategies. Haven't you all figured it out yet? The game ISN'T about having good cards right now! It's about making your opponent discard, drawing more, and destroying your opponent's zones. You can do ALL of that without having good cards! By making the game less focused on board control and more on actually constructing good decks, the game will not be about filling your deck with "staples".

Anyone have input other than telling me that they can't think outside the box?

Oh, it's one of these topics.

It should be interesting to see how YCM tears it to shreds again.

To be sure I'm actually on topic, though; no, I'm against it. By allowing cards like Reborn Tengu and Tour Guide of the Underworld to be played @4 instead of @3, you've only made the game worse.

Actually, it doesn't make the game any better because Exodia becomes Tier minus gajillion.

Thinking outside the box is tough stuff - High risk high return. If you do it right, you get praised. Do it wrong, everyone starts ripping you to shreds. Unfortunately, you belong in "doing it wrong", and you're obviously not experieced enough to change the gameplays.

I occasionally top my local tournaments, and so do a lot of people in this particular section. And we know what we're talking about. We never think the rules should be changed, because it's all fine as it is.

It's a ridiculous idea which is basically Elder Dragon Highlander in hyperdrive.

Not to mention it's basically a shameless attempt to get TCG people to 'comment' on his idea, which is coincidently being posted in Realistic Cards. You know, the hellhole of a section in YCM?

But I said a new ban/errata list. Anything that breaks the game now would be limited to two (in a 60 card deck that would get buried). Nobleman of crossout, Raigeki, Harpy, all of it, limited to 2.

Suggestions? I'm only hearing complaints.

Because it's a ridiculous idea which doesn't really work. All OTKs become ridiculous and everything else. Feel free to ban everything here:

Dark Hole (lol 14 card nuke)
Heavy Storm (lol 14 card nuke)
JD
DAD
REDMD
Coelacanth
Rabbit
Synchron Explorer/Unknown/Quickdraw
Plant Engine
Everything on the current banlist
Tengu
Tour Guide
All Floaters
etc.

Stop trying to be innovative with some ridiculous idea. Simplicity has always worked better, in a lot of cases.

Oh and I do realize Realistic Cards is a bad section. Lot's of pedants there. But the point I'm getting at is that it would be a completely new format. All I'm doing is trying to take what works well in Magic and WoW and move it to YuGiOh. I see nothing wrong with trying to re-invent the wheel. Old strategies would be obsolete and maybe even slow to newer strategies that didn't work in the old format.

Look, this is just an idea for people who quit (like me) because the game was too much about top-decking and dead drawing. You take away the B.S. in the game and make it more about the CARDS and not about the CONTROL and it's a much better game.

Think about Yada Lock; how fun was that when you first played against it? It was like hitting your head against a brick wall wasn't it? I want to create a format where Yada lock isn't possible. That would make Yada a playable card again if you pot of greed at your draw phase instead of draw 1 card. Get it?

Old cards that are outdated with new ones could now find it's way back in your deck. It's called "breathing life into a dead game".... YuGiOh has long been dead to me, I have moved on to games that require thought and not having the most money to buy the tourney decks that are posted online. This could give this game what it needs; a chance with mature TCG players.

I pretty much predicted you were trying to convert Elder Dragon Highlander, aka Commander, for YGO. Doesn't work. Know that for a fact.

YGO's been dead to you? Say that to the audience that makes YGO one of the top 3 TCGs globally.

Just get back to your kennel, design 10,000 cards and come back to us. At the moment, by the time you ban everything, you'll be left with 1 card. Shapesnatch.

"Yu-Gi-Oh!" has gone down a different path. That is where I agree. But "Yu-Gi-Oh! Remix" is a new TCG. Again, trying to reinvent the wheel here folks. Raigeki isn't game losing if you can draw 2 cards at your upkeep, play them both, draw 2 cards for playing cards, drop 2 more cards, draw 2 more cards, and eventually have your zones full again. This will no longer be about dominance, it will be about a war of 7 monsters versus 7 monsters.

I ask this question: What changes would YOU make to make "Yu-Gi-Oh!" more like Magic/WoW?

I'm not going to defend myself any more. Yu-Gi-Oh! may be the top 3 COMPETITIVE card games in the world; but what about the casual market? Last I saw they were playing other TCG's.

Do you have any idea how stupidly broken those cards are? They're massive +'s that have the possibilty not to hurt you in in slightest and with your rules, Raigeki also immediatly replaces itself with the card you draw, turning Raigeki or Harpies Feather Duster in atleast a +1.

And how is a game without control a better game? Control actually gives the game much more variety and other decks idea come across the table instead of every deck having the win condition DEAL 8000+ ON TURN 1.

And skimming quickly through the topic, I'm under the impression that you're trying to somehow turn it into Magic the Gathering format. That's impossible to do, since Magic decks are forced to play with Land cards (or however the called), while Yu-Gi-Oh basicly can play cards without need to rely on such resources.

You're also assuming that if a player swarms their field of monsters, their opponent is going to survive the slaughter. This game is nothing like Magic/Wow.

I DON'T MOTHERF***ING WANT YUGIOH TO TURN INTO MAGIC OR WORLD OF MOTHERF***ING WARCRAFT. IF I WANTED TO PLAY BY THOSE RULES I'D BE PLAYING THEM INSTEAD.

Besides, your idea of a "War of 7 monsters versus 7 monsters" is stupid because of Rekindling and Coelacanth and other stuff. Also, "I summon Rai-Oh, set 7 cards and end my turn" isn't really funny.

Give up. I mean, it's not that hard. Just. Give. Up.

Umm. I don't even care if I draw 2 cards if I'm gonna die from an OTK that turn. That's the point of these cards. Not to pointlessly nuke things because "oh im a happy pyromaniac yaaaay", it's to lolwin.

What changes would I make to YGO to make it like that?

- Get MtG's design team.
- Tell them to turn YGO into MtG.

I don't bloody understand why you're trying to turn YGO...into MtG.

Quote time.

With the way the game is, there is absolutely no way this would ever work unless you completely threw out every card that wasn't a vanilla and started from scratch. At that point, we're no longer talking about the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG.

Edit: On second thought, maybe I will keep this open.

Let's discuss what cards would be immediate FTKs with a format like this:

Exodia
Burn

Those are the first two that immediately spring to mind...
