Originality versus Competitiveness

Everyone here in a nutshell: I try to be original and competitive.

What that really means: I don't actually think about the meta when picking a deck, I think about what will make me seem cool. I then try to make the deck competitive but my deck really isn't a meta call.

It's funny because the only actual hipster here actually tries to avoid stuff like that.

To be completely honest, originality is everything to me, and whether or not the Deck is competitive is completely irrelevant. If the Deck happens to be good, then wonderful. Even though I'm trying to make Wind-Ups at the moment, I would rather DIE than make one of those stupid FTK decks. I'm going to make a Wind-Up Deck that's good but has my own original flair. I'm the guy at my locals who pretty much only plays Plants, and I have done so many variations of the same Deck that I'm known as "the Plant guy". Fallen Angel of Roses + Divine Wind anyone? I've even dared to bring a Cyber Girl deck to my locals. Yes, Cyber Girls. But that's because I play what I want to play, and if I win with it, fantastic. I play for fun, while trying to make my Deck as good as I can in the process. :) So yeah, originality ranks way higher in my mind than competitiveness. But then again, that makes me a painfully average duelist. D: It's hard to be both original and competitive, which is kind of stupid.

I don't give a damn about being cool and I don't pick decks based on anything other than what I enjoy.

I mean, I run a number of decks, but my main deck is Fableds, which I try to improve constantly, to find some way to make it consistent enough.

Sure, my deck isn't a meta deck, I'm just trying to perfect it and win without using My favorite deck.

And you can't be original with a game that prints out ARCHTYPES

Well, in my opinion a lot of creative decks are two or more archetypes combined, a bad archetype made decent, a deck that doesn't even use archetypes, a deck using an archetype in a new way, etc.

I will never forget the day a long while ago when I placed in the top 4 of my locals with a Cyber Girl/Amazoness Deck (before DREV came out, too).

Must've been an off-day for everyone. :V

Ever think of mixing Elemental HEROs and Roids?
I have.
Got Tristan to do it then I made my own afterwards.

And it was definitely one of your smarter moments. :3

I should re-make my Elemental Roid deck because it was so fun to use.
