Premier Alexander Romanov
With all of these new cards pouring in from Return of the Duelist that have no value in the game, I must ask what the point of such cards is. Why have a Spell Card that prevents you from activating Spell and Trap Cards for a turn, or a monster that has 3000 ATK, but is meant to be played in Defense Mode? Why can't all cards in a pack at least have some value or place in the game?
Lonk
2 things: 1) Pack Filler is just there for Pack Filler, like Filler episodes are there in the anime just for Filler. 2) It's Konami. Now, is this just a discussion on Pack Filler or is this just a question why there is Pack Filler?
Premier Alexander Romanov
Why is there Pack Filler? It doesn't seem like a very good business practice to have cards not worth anything to anyone. Why make a card if you know it will be a cold day in hell before it's actually used in gameplay? ~British Soul~
i think they put in pack filler because they don't want to release some of the Anime-only cards which would A: be OP'd without a nerf, B: because Konami doesn't want to give us nice things or C: have any use even if released, but would be nice to have. Some Pack Filler is good, but other Pack Filler really shouldn't be made. To be fair, Pack Filler is made for consistency so that they have the same amount of cards in each set

Furthermore, people are being paid money to design these terrible cards. Why go to all of the trouble to purposely make a bad card if you can just as easily make a decent or a good card? Bahamut - Envoy of the End
Because bad cards make good cards better. I'm serious, I've gone through packs and though "terrible, awful, horrendous, wait... HOLY CRAP THAT ONE's AWESOME!" If every card was amazing, then by definition none of them would be. Yeah I know it's awkward logic that not everyone might get.

That is not the same thing as making them "better".

Johnny Bravo 323
What is the point of pack filler? Let's look at it from Konami's point of view. Imagine every card was good. There is no filler anymore and instead every card can be used in a meta deck. Now all you have to do is buy like what, 5 packs and make a deck. Life is great. But does Konami make any money? No they don't. You just bought 5 packs and started playing without giving them any more money. Can a company surivive off that? No. By adding pack filler and making the stronger cards harder to get they force you to spend more money to upgrade your deck keeping the company alive which thus let's you play Yu-Gi-Oh. Instead of bashing it, I think you should be worshiping it.
Stan Alda
My guess is that Konami assumes everyone is a genius and can pull off some sort of absurd combo with them. This may not have been as much of a problem several years ago with all the Vanillas, but now that every monster has some sort of effect, Konami might assume that some whiz kid could win a tournament with "Freezing Wind". There's a snowball's chance in hell of that actually happening, but Konami maybe thinks that it will happen.
Premier Alexander Romanov
*facedesk* I never said GOOD. I said DECENT enough to have some sort of playability. As in they aren't as good as other cards, but they aren't totally worthless. There is a difference.
Johnny Bravo 323
Obviously you aren't thinking hard enough to play the cards. Almost every new card I see I think "this could be fun to play" and the others are cool gimmicks.

Also the game will get boring if every card they release is "Discard X card. Draw 2 cards". It also gives more of a gambling effect towards the game. Althemia
I can't believe that no-one decided to say that some "pack fillers" are actually really good in Sneak Preview events and Konami keeps that in mind for those players as well.
