Royal Oppression.

Honestly, I would. It doesn't do a full shutdown of a mechanic as people make it out to be, and I find it pointless to flip after summoning a boss since the person is already in the state of winning the game. Even if one could Special Summon against the boss/swarmed field/whatever, would it really make a difference in who wins and who loses?

Yes...it would. Being able to Special Summon is a deciding factor in a game. Even if you get out your boss...I should be able to summon an answer in the form of my own boss or something to run your boss over. But with oppression out, as long as you have the LP I am unable to do that, so you pretty much locked me out of the game with 1 card.

And yes...it does shut down a mechanic. Unless I draw S/T removal the card simply lets you decide what I summon for the cost of 800LP.

Saying Oppression shuts down Special Summoning is like saying that Skill Drain shuts down Monster Effects. Besides, one should have more answers than to just play your own boss. It seems like I have a different variation of "The Truth" than everyone else.

But Skill Drain does shut down monster effects that are active on the field...so you don't get your point.

You missed the point. The point is, if a card that shuts down another mechanic (A card I personally hate more than Oppression) is still in the game @3, shouldn't Royal Oppression be given the chance to be limited for 1 format (at least)?

Skill Drain shouldn't be at 3, though. It's not good design at all and can single-handedly win games.

Royal Oppression shouldn't be around at all. It says "Screw you" to the very mechanic that marks the appeal of the game, its speed, for literally no reason. It just seals wins and is almost never used in its true anti-meta purpose when it's around.

This has made THE most sense of an argument against Oppression. Just noting that.

The card would shy away Newcomers to the game, which will create a collapse on the gamestate and the entire TCG/OCG, which will cause the game to literally be dead (that is what I interpret here). To be frank, I see the point and I actually do concur with it. I don't want to de-rail the topic, but Skill Drain must go to 1 (if not 0).

This. Skill Drain has no reason to at be 3...sure it requires more some kind of deck dedication....but it wins too many games on its own.

But that is what every one has been saying all long... its not used for its intended anti-meta purpose, it shuts down a key game mechanic, and gives you a win because it locks the opponent out of the game. Yuzuru just added "it makes the game not fun"

Oppression is banned for the exact same reasons Imperial Order was. Shutting down a main game mechanic.

The only reason Decree is still around is because it's pretty much the only trap you can run in a deck that runs it. Which hurts quite a few decks outside of Countdown, which doesnt run it I think, and shouldnt exist anyway, and uhm...what other decks run Decree? Inzektors? No wait, they run Safe Zone....

That is just it. Everyone just says that it simply creates a lock-out of a game mechanic. Simple enough. But if it goes against what little the game has to offer to people, then that is a different story. You really didn't explain it that way.

Did you even play when Oppression was everywhere?

Two reasons why I never want this back:

Comeback potential is one of my favorite things about this game and so easily making that potential so difficult to achieve is unacceptable to me. Someone should never have a game won before they actually win the game.

and

Constantly negating an entire gameplay mechanic is dumb.

this is probably one of my most hated cards overall

... ._.
So, Scrap Dragon + Oppression or Shi En + Oppression or... anything big + Oppression must have never even happened against you. It was f***ing retarded.
I was on YGN at the time, and when anyone used Oppression on me, I won 9/10ths of the time whereas Skill Drain made me autolose if I encountered it.

The thing about Skill Drain, though, is that both sides are likely to be equally hurt. You can't drop something and then go Skill Drain, expecting to win because of it. There's a ton of ways around it, as opposed to the very few for Oppression. I love Oppression, but it's a good card that is too easy to abuse.

Skill Drain doesn't hurt you back, if it does you're doing it wrong. That's like running Royal Decree, while running 10+ traps. You make your deck around Skill Drain, and proceed to laugh when you're virtually unaffected by the effect of Skill Drain, while your opponent is completely crippled by it.

That's my point, though. You have to build a whole deck around it, and the deck is not only 70% useless without it, it's also usually bad.

Just saying.

OT: Pointless thread. Card is broken. Never coming back, although Konami brought BLS back, so what do I know. Therefore, discussion is pointless. It's turning into a Skill Drain thread anyway.
