The Return of Sinister Serpent

Recommended Posts

You know, Serpent is more Searchable then ever now? I feel like someone would try to make a 1 for 1 stun deck work with PWWB and the likes.

Maybe with Gem-Knights that can already do something like that.

Oh, I'd also like to throw in my 2 cents and give Chris a Suspension from YCM. He earned it ! :D

Not sure about Wing Blast, personally. The main plays, except for Exceeds, all drop cards that are okay with being in your hand next turn, even if you do lose out on a draw and current field advantage. Other than that, I agree with you,but if you're going to just return an Exceed, you may as well use Compulsory.

The cool thing about PWWB is losing the draw is a bit of a big deal....its kinda creates I soft -1 for you if you get what I'm trying to say. Serpent turns PWWB into a +1...they lose a card on the field and a draw...you just lose PWWB.

The video's main argument is:

1) There's no deck currently that would take advantage of a free +1 to hand like that. Have you ever been in a recent duel and thought to yourself "Hmm... a sinister serpent would be game changing right about now." The only thing that most people main with discard costs are Brionac, and unless you consistently summon it every single duel there's no real reason you'd need a free +1 like Sinister Serpent.

2) If you try to make a deck that revolves around Sinister Serpent, you'd be making a really inconsistent deck because at the moments you didn't have Serpent ready you'd be screwed over and forced to discard less-than-ideal things.

It's splashable, yeah, but it doesn't really do anything worthwhile.

If the game was a bit slower, Serpent would get much more value as the duel progresses. Card Destruction, DWD, Hand Destruction, 1 for 1 effects.

On its own, it really wouldn't affect the game, especially since duels end super quickly and serpent is once per turn.

I think everybody's thoughts are all in the same boat here, and to me, the thread has been worth while. (:

Hmmm?

And if that wasn't enough to cement the idea, there's the fact that it's absolutely awful design.
The discard balances it. Taking that away turns it into a virtually uncounterable 141 anything killer that creates inconsistencies in your Opponent's deck at no cost to you.

The fact of the matter is that it's a +1 every turn and will be abused as fodder by Atlanteans, which WILL be around here if Serpent comes off the banlist this next format, so I don't see how it wouldn't be abused once coming off. A top deck would certainly use it, and that top deck will have a consistent fodder for all its monsters (speaking of Atlanteans atm), which would also be the #1 deck.

You want it back?
Not really. I still have yet to see how mitigation of resource consumption the eay Sinister Serpent is anything but not healthy. Even if we say that the advantage Sinister gives is empty compared to the gaudiness of Mermails and Atlanteans, can it still exist and be playable in some level without being somewhat of a cheat code?

It's refreshing to see people who think that cards shouldn't come back merely because they don't do anything bad; but then again, this is primarily a card-design site.

Because some things are overcosted, and serpent makes them well-costed,maybe?

I havent really played atlanteans or mermails enough,so i dunno how it would work there and think they'd prolly want to dump seahorse or atlanteans over serpent, but it would be bad everywhere else.

You might as well defend Treeborn Frog's existence by saying that all the shitty 2-tribute monsters from Guardian Angel Joan to Dark Magician of Chaos (pity the fool who was forced to Tribute Summon DMoC in its heyday) need it so that they can be less shitty?

Which Atlantean is a problem? I'm not seeing how this card becomes OMFGBROKENHAX! with Atlanteans.
Talking about the decktype Atlantean, which play Genex Undine (basically searches Sinister Serpent by dumping it), Abysspike (Dumps Sinister Serpent to grab any Level 3 WATER from Deck, therefore making Serpent useful) and Megaloabyss (Ditches 2 WATERs in hand to SS itself. Could easily use Sinister to bring itself out as a 2400 body.)

Dodges costs, etc. Even if we say it's empty advantage, so what? You can still use it next turn anyway, for as long as there is a need.

So when people say "Atlantean" they actually mean "Gennex Undine, Mermail Abysspike and Mermail Magaloabyss", three cards which are not at all Atlanteans? Fantastic.

There's plenty of decks that can easily whip out 2400 or 2500 beatsticks at the cost of only one card, so I don't know why a three card investment (turned into a 2 card invement) for a 2400 beatstick is seen as the end of the world.

But this isn't a game of "you too!" because that would just be a waste of everyone's time. So Megaloabyss can SS itself at just the cost of one discard. So? Is that unacceptable?
Dodges costs, etc.
Oh I'm sorry. Was there an Atlantean I missed called "Atlantean Dodges Costs"? Because I know what the card does, I can read English.

Use it for what? To discard... what? For what card?

I seriously doubt there are any well-designed and/or balanced one card 2400-2500 ATK beatsticks :/

So... it makes the deck more consistent?
I thought Yugioh players got a hard-on for consistency. :o
My god, this is such a random, ignorant comment.

No, YGO players want a good game.
